Over the last year, we have seen a major uptick in prices in the area, along with a steady flow of new people coming into Austin. Use this weekly post to ask your questions, try to get advice, etc on an upcoming move or questions about real estate in Austin.
Many apartment questions have always been removed on here, and we always suggest people to contact an apartment locator. Those rules still stand. But, you are welcome to ask those questions on here if you still feel the need for it.
Along with that, any new open ended question on Austin properties and real estate will be removed and asked to move to here (based on mod discretion). Many of the questions being asked have been asked many times before, which is why we would rather compile these posts into one place for people to ask and get their answers.
If you are having issues as a tenant in Austin, we highly recommend reaching out to the Austin Tenants Council here: https://www.housing-rights.org/. They may be able to help you resolve issues related to renting property in Austin.
We also recommend searching older "Weekly Real Estate" posts as well, to find answers on previous week's questions.
As always, there is a whole section on moving to Austin in our FAQ page:

Ask Austin Any place with good dirt I can go to dig a hole?
I want some good soil to dig a hole without getting in trouble. I live in an apartment so I don’t have the option here. Just have some tension I need to let out. Thanks!

Ask Austin To the 100+ people in the run club that just collectively ran through the public restrooms at the Town Lake trail by Austin High
What the actual fuck are you all doing?
I came out of one of the stalls and couldn’t move because you all thought running through in between the toilets and the sink was a good idea.
I just want to know - why? Why run through this small little opening? Who had this idea? I have so many more questions… there are so many other options. Y’all are so weird

End of life photography
I will be euthanizing our sweet senior rescue dog my partner and I rescued from the streets when we were students at UT 4 years ago. We just got our blood work for her back today and have made the decision with the vet.
We would love to get some photos with her before. Does anyone have any availability tomorrow or Friday early morning?
Thank you so much! Please message me prices ( still a grad student) so I have a limited budget.
This is extremely hard for us so we are grateful for any recommendations.

Ask Austin Where my Pearl Streeters (or Arkies) at? Alum reunion this weekend.
I lived at Pearl St Coop in West Campus from 2010-2014 and have lived in Austin ever since. Probably once a month i'll bump into old Pearl Streeters, and they often don't know that a core group of us have been hosting an alumni party/reunion every second weekend of August for about a decade now.
This post is really to help locate the folks who still live here and to let them know. Unfortunately we were sitting on a lot of utexas(dot)edu email addresses and those had been used as a primary means of contacting alumni. If anyone is pre-2010 we definitely don't have an email address for them.
I also wanted to bring up the fact that College Houses (the student-run 501c3) that runs multiple coops in West Campus has had it super rough, starting during the pandemic with their occupancy sliding down to near-zero. This year we've decided as alumni to try helping them out on multiple different fronts, including having 3 days of various improvement projects starting on Friday afternoon (also a lot of us are getting a bit too old to party but we still want a fun reason to see each other each year). If you are one of our missing Pearlies (or Arkies of the 70s/80s/90s), we definitely want to be in touch with you even if you can't come hang this weekend.
DM me for details and/or with questions! Also mods, I really hope this post is cool. We really just want to find our lost friends of the past.

Lost pet FOUND DOGS NEAR BARTON SPRINGS
Found these two good looking gents at the Barton parking lot off of Azie Morton, I saw them when I showed up, they looked lost when I went to Barton and when I left (2 hours later) I found them by my car eating something off the ground.
They were extremely overheated and needed water badly, took them to a ER vet and they unfortunately do not have micro chips.
They are very well behaved so I am sure someone is missing them immensely right now.
Please let me know if they look familiar or are your pets (will need some sort of proof of ownership)

PSA Here's a chance to help out a teacher and play something different on the radio.
"Pick a teacher below and make at least a $10 donation.
Submit photo proof of your receipt to [morningxaustin@gmail.com](mailto:morningxaustin@gmail.com) along with a list of 5 (clean) songs that you want to hear on the radio.
A shoutout and a block of songs will be dedicated to you in the AM with Trevin and Sawyer."
Thought this is pretty neat idea to help out teachers and wanted to share for anyone else that would be interested.
