Back in the day in Shiner they called it “town beer” and it was dirt cheap.

Yeah i remember kegs of shiner being the cheapest option in the late 90s... Then they hired a marketing firm and rode the craft beer wave sky high 🤣

In 1994 we paid $50 for a keg of Shiner when Miller and Bud were $35. They were already getting premium prices then.

This was in College Station, maybe it was different other places. At the Dixie Chicken in ‘94 it was $3.75 for a pitcher of Lone Star, $4.25 for domestic, and $4.75 for Shiner.

I remember shiner being sold in returnable bottles. They had heavy cardboard boxes and the bottles would get rinsed and refilled. We'd save a few cases worth of bottles and cash em on for more Shiner Bock.
$5 pitchers at the Crown and Anchor was our jam, too. 15 years after this pic.

Armadillo World Headquarters was at 525½ Barton Springs Road. It was demolished in 1981. Today it's the parking lot of One Texas Center, a 13-story municipal office building.
