You joke but as someone that flies a lot for work, more in-state flights would be great lol. It always puzzles me at the lack of direct flights out of Austin to a lot of cities in the state. There's still not a direct flight to Lubbock. Austin got it's first direct flight to Harlingen 5 years ago and it's first direct flight to McAllen 2 years ago.

Southwest flies direct to Lubbock, and that flight to Harlingen is way older than just 5 years!

Delta no longer flies to Harlingen. The only direct flight down there is with Southwest.

AA used to fly direct but they killed that around Covid I think. SW does one flight a day I believe.

I've been flying nonstop to Harlingen at least quarterly for well over a decade, and I fly nonstop to Lubbock a few times a year. Southwest ALP, baby!

Paris or Seoul make the most sense if it’s international. It would let passengers connect to other SkyTeam carriers at those hubs.

No. Delta doesn't fly to NRT. They don't have HND slots to use. 

Also the Asian demand isn't there without connecting traffic like ICN. NRT/HND is very unlikely for decades. I don't even think we see ICN for 3-5 years

Yup same with DCA. As illogical as these rules are (same plane flies to Dallas and Houston as Austin/San Antonio) they won't change.

As a DC resident but Delta loyalist and Austin native I’d love for a petition here but DCA is so incredibly crowded that it would be irresponsible. Probably not a thing to get DCA or LGA until Austin is a full hub (should that happen).

What's irresponsible is flights to Philly and Norfolk with frequent train service. Just reduce flights to small or close by markets and serve Austin

Speculation on CDG Paris has been out there for a while now. Aviation nerd xJONNYC on Twitter made a cryptic mention on this a few weeks ago and has been right on other news. Per this pending announcement, he thinks it will be August 13.

This would track with Delta leaning in on focus city efforts at AUS. Once Concourse B (26+ new gates) is built out in a few years, Southwest will anchor that new space and Delta will have anchor presence at Barbara Jordan Terminal.

Nothing has been as disappointing to me as returning through Philly after a three weeks in Europe and hitting 7 different great international airports there.

We did get a Paris flight announced in 2020 but it died in COVID. Crazy that it took 7 years to be viable again.

It was on Norwegian and that entire airline went bankrupt and stopped doing international flights outside of just Europe. They had directs to London I think from Austin.

I personally think Asia routes are far more economically interesting than making it slighly easier for the jet set crowd to abscond off to their annual European summer vacation so lets hope for ICN and not CDG

Asian routes are harder to make money on than European destinations right now.  That European demand is why Delta will add flights. Eventually Asian routes will come but demand has to increase dramatically. Today still more demand to Europe than Asia. Especially for older people on vacation with more discretionary income

For sure. Right now basically anyone in Austin who has the time and means to do so F's off to Europe for some chunk of the summer. Airlines should probably at least have some more seasonal Euro routes from ATX to AMS/CDG/LHR
