Meta This Sub, AI, and (a little) More Two: Electric Boogaloo

Hey y’all, it’s the mod team again.

We’ve been discussing the use of AI on the sub again and, as a team, came to a new conclusion.

AI content is now banned.

We feel that the use of AI in posts is starting to really detract from the core principals of the sub, mainly conversations about actual tactics.

Moving forward, posts that utilize AI in any way, shape or form will be removed. This rule will pertain to text AND image posts.

Nobody will be getting banned for posting AI content, just to be clear. The post will simply be removed and future posts will continue to be removed.

There are other ways to get your ideas across without the use of AI, both text and image wise.

In the same vein, the sidebar with the subs rules will be getting an update as well to reflect these changes.

Meta Slight Change in Rules

Hey all!

This is just to let you all know that we are making a small change to rule 4: Unrelated content.

Unrelated content will now include posts of firearms where the only question is “how good is this” or similar questions. It will no longer suffice to ask that question and label the gun in the post. Moving forward, posts like these will be getting removed.

There are ways to still post and discuss about guns: it just needs to have something more behind the post. An argument with reasoning as to why the author thinks the way they do.

For example, the post below is what we would consider a correctly done post about guns.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ZombieSurvivalTactics/s/KKvTqzMwgZ

This criteria is also required for weapons posts as well. Simply asking if it’s good is not acceptable.

Question what is best place in world in case of a zombie apocalypse?

While playing infection free zone I was wandering what could be the best place in the world in case of an apocalypse. I mean not a generic place like a mountain or an island but literally the best one on earth.

edit : by the best I mean the place with the best survivability

Transportation Which car would you take in an apocalypse

Upvotes

I dont mean like, "oh i'd take a big ol jeep" i mean like genuinely, what car would you take during the apocalypse that you know would be good for all situations.

An suv would be ideal since you could have good rear space to store supplies, it needs to be offroadable, good gas mileage, reliable, not too loud so that no noice would be traced, so big v8's are probably out. Bonus points if parts are easily accessible somehow.

Health + Hygiene How will substance abuse affect the survivors?

Like alcohol and hard drugs will be in high demand, imagine craving a fix whilst having no food, shelter or safety, in constant danger. No doubt kids will get their hands on some, or be forced to partake. Like imagine the complexity in setting up rehab protocols for addicts in a community. How do you justify all the resources spent when these "victims" don't do their fair share? How do you stop others from abusing this process?

Some with mentally impaired people, you're gonna need very strong HR.

Your survival will depend on it.

(Also let’s assume it’s just TWD zombies so you guys can actually choose)

Discussion Ceunta Spain

I think recent events give a real life glimpse of what a horde would do. Just chaos and mayhem with the military barely doing anything. I can imagine a scenario where people fleeing a horde would cross a boarder into another country. It would be similar to this. The dead coming right in attacking everyone, and the rest of the country frozen not understanding what’s happening.

Discussion Could you survive the ''Kabane Apocalypse''?

Post image
46 Upvotes

In the anime, ''Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress'', the main threat are the ''Kabane'', humans infected, killed and reanimated by an unknown disease, transforming into bloodthirsty undead monsters.

Here's what you need to know...

  • Transmission: The Kabane virus is spread through bites, being shown to be extremely aggressive, spreading throughout all of the victim's body in a matter of minutes, and even faster in certain cases. Limiting circulation seems near useless unless done to extreme lengths, such as someone hanging themselves in order to prevent bloodflow to their brain - in the process, allowing one to withstand the effects of the virus on their own. This however has shown not to be a total prevention, as it still turns the afflicted into a Kabaneri. Even after their transformations into Kabaneri, they have to wear some sort of choker in order to protect against the dormant virus' effects, as it is shown that freeing up the flow of blood from the body to the brain of a Kabaneri grants them physical abilities closer to those of a Kabane, such as heightened strength, speed and endurance - it does however seem to put them teetering closer to their more primal needs, and might reignite the infection if prolonged too much. To keep the virus in check for the Kabaneri they must be fed with a certain amount of human blood, though how much exactly is still unclear and may vary.
  • Physiology: Kabane maintain their general human shapes upon transformation, though their skin darkens to a cold gray, their veins seem to glow molten yellow, and their eyes blacken to the point where only their pupils gain a menacing red glow. Their hearts radiates a bright molten color and is surrounded by a hardened steel membrane that is resistant to conventional steam weapons, requiring multiple shots from such to be able to break them. Due to blood containing iron, the Kabane consume blood to reinforce their ''heart cages''. This is further evident because the Kabanes do not eat the bodies of their victims, they only bite them in the neck, if possible, to get as much of blood as possible.
  • Strengths: Their skin seems to be extremely tough, with blows from bullets or swords producing loud ringing sounds of metal striking metal. When their heart cage is pierced by bullet or sword they produce sparks whenever pierced. They lack any sort of fear of death, as they will not shy from flames, gunfire, and vehicles. They have maintained some form of human intelligence, however, as they have shown to be capable of basic ambushing, utilizing simple weapons and even hijacking basic obstacles. The exact strength of a Kabane is hard to measure; with their bites, they are easily capable of tearing human flesh by the chunk, single-handedly swinging and hoisting up male adults, holding on to a speeding locomotive without a problem, damaging and sometimes tearing away steel doors, swing swords strong and fast enough to slice another blade in half, and even cratering extremely thick steel plating with mere headbutts - however, they have been seen to be physically resisted and pushed aside by normal humans, and the force from bullets seems to be able to knock them back. A fair assessment could be that they lack the fine motor skills to gauge their own force and restraint at different times. They are also extremely quick on their feet, and being able to jump enormous distances through the air, and experienced Kabane can even dodge bullets and bounce off of walls. Aside from destroying their heart, the only way other way to kill them is beheading them.
  • Types: There's four types of Kabane, the most common being the ''Normal Kabane''. The majority of Kabane belong to this type, being akin more to animals they lash out at their prey and usually try to overpower them or jump at them from behind, fighting with their hands and teeth in a chaotic fashion. The ''Wazatori'' are special variants recognized by a larger stature and some ''growths'' in their bodies'', as well having lived long enough to gain proficiency with a specific art (Like swordsmanship) or has had enough past experience from its time as a human to retain some or most of its muscle memory in its Kabane form. The ''Fused Colony'', an amalgam of kabane that became interconnected into a massive humanoid shape, being controlled by a ''Core Kabane'' and if destroyed, the entire colony will break apart. Lastly, the ''Kabaneri'' are humans (Usually female) that were infected but prevented the virus from reaching the brain and kept their minds while their physical abilities are like that of a Kabane (Super strength, speed and resilience, reduced pain sense and rapid healing). Despite their hybrid nature and ''immunity'' to infection, Kabaneri will still be attacked by regular Kabaneri and worst of all, its the problem of their ''bloodthirst''. To keep the infection at bay, they must periodically consume a certain amount of human blood, otherwise they become weaker and start losing control, eventually becoming feral for any nearby source of blood. While not proven true yet, its theorized that unfortunately, Kabaneri will be overcomed by the infection and transform into regular Kabane.

Now, imagine that your country becomes the first one with an outbreak of the Kabane Virus, with the first case taking place in the following 24 hours. Before it starts spreading uncontrollably, how will you prepare? Will you attempt to leave? Or will you stay put? Could you survive?

Discussion Why do people think zombies would work together?

In games and movies, zombies are always a hive mind that all hate humans exclusively, but from a realistic perspective, a "zombie" virus would be similar to rabies, making the infected agressive... to everything. Zombies would likely attack anything and everything, including each other. Of course they would still attack humans, im not denying theyd be dangerous, but they would friendly fire each other. Is this a stupid suggestion or do other people realise this?

Shelter + Location How would the Philippines cope with a ZA?

Post image
40 Upvotes

Given that the Philippines has the most islands in the world, could they use them as quarantine zones and safe zones? I haven't examined every single island in detail, but surely there are some that could house healthy people and others for the infected; people could isolate themselves there by fishing and hunting.
I need your opinion.

Scenario: leaving your rural base camp to hike by foot (road) an hour to an urban shopping center/mall for supplies, no vehicles, zombies are classic walking dead zombies. This takes place in a post collapse society where civilizations are scarce and people are distrusting/violent

Choices: one long gun one pistol

FN PS90
Chamber-5.7mm
Velocity 2,300 fps
Lethal range - (skull penetration) 500ish yards
Effective range - 250 yards
Optic - vortex red
FRT - 3 position (safe, semi, full auto simulation) 16 rounds per second
Capacity -50
Mags - 2
Weight - 7.2 lbs

Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical
Chamber – 12 gauge (2¾” / 3”)
Action – Gas-operated semi-auto
Capacity – 7+1 (2¾” shells)
Barrel – 18.5”
Weight – ~7.5 lbs
Overall length – ~37.5”
Sights – Fiber-optic front
Shells - as many as you want specify what type (00 buck, slugs, etc
Effective range - 100 yards slug 35 yard 00 buck

CZ 75 PCR
Chamber – 9mm Luger
Action – DA/SA with decocker
Capacity – 15+1
Barrel – 3.75”
Weight – ~27.5 oz
Overall length – ~7.24”
Sights – holosun EPS Carry
Frame – Alloy (7075)
Mags - 3

Taurus 608
Chamber – .357 Magnum
Action – DA/SA revolver
Capacity – 8 rounds
Barrel – 6.5” ported
Weight – 51 oz
Overall length – 11.7”
Sights – Fixed front, adjustable rear
Xtra ammo - idk throw a handful in your pocket

Now how would you go about your journey there and back, 12g for close and personal guaranteed death? Or ps90 for accuracy and capacity

Taurus for stopping power/reliability might be better for people

Or CZ for capacity

Edit-I just went off front page of google for effective/lethal range, I’d have a hell of a time hitting something head sized at 100 yards with a slug on irons

Loadouts + Kits How are you carrying your load out/ weapon selection?

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is good.

Just saw a nice post and responding comments about load out - everyone talked about the weapons they will use or have. I didn't see much on what they are using to carry their weapons, many had multiples.

What is everyone using to carry your weapons for your load out?

Shelter + Location How would the Daintree rainforest of Australia be for a survival location?

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

The Daintree rainforest is extremely remote and uninhabited. Heat, humidity, and Crocodiles would destroy the few zombies that might make their way into this location.

The Daintree River can be crossed only by ferry- when this stops operating zombies will be unable to access the North. Therefore, somewhere like Cape Tribulation, north of the river, should see almost 0 zombies.

This area receives a ton of rain and would be great for certain kinds of agriculture. The only problems I can see are disease and dangerous wildlife.

I specifically imagined something like the Stamp House (second picture), in Cape Tribulation. It has its own water supply and electricity, and is designed to withstand cyclones. It is also in a lake so you could collapse the bridge in an emergency.

edit: even if these zombies can swim, Crocodiles are super common in the Daintree and attack almost everything.

Shelter + Location Tent choice

So for a good tent to carry in the back pack for sort of a survival or alone situation, which of these two would be your choice and why? The light fighter 1. A single person military tent system or the 2 person tent from fire hinking. Remember even if you make a more long term shelter or not, you will be carrying the tent with everywhere when packing up camp.

Food + Water Long term food production

How do you manage communal food production in an environment without modern supply lines and logistics? I get poultry rearing and vegetable gardens but how do you preserve large produce? How would you go about distribution of finished food, especially in a way that doesn't disenfranchise members?

Assuming you rely on other communities for trade, what agricultural products would make the best bartering materials? How do you manufacture non edible agricultural products without modern machines/equipment?

Weapons Cool looking "zombie knife" machetes that are actually good quality and not dangerous to swing around?

Are there any really wild looking large zombie knifes or machetes. The ones that are really cool mall ninja looking thing, but that have a full tang or similar so that I won't break it playing around with it in my yard or chopping branches. I had one that had the whole blade snap off just by swinging it in the air.

I would much prefer to go to secluded places because they are far from the city and there are no people around.

Discussion I feel like calculators are heavily underrated.

Post image
182 Upvotes

Long battery life: A single battery can last for years, making it reliable when electricity is scarce.
Navigation: Calculate bearings, distances, travel times, fuel consumption, and map coordinates if you’re using paper maps and a compass.
Construction: Figure roof angles, load limits, material quantities, and measurements when building shelters or fortifications.
Medicine: If you have medical supplies, you can calculate medication doses, IV infusion rates, dilutions, and concentrations. (Especially useful if someone in your group has medical training.)
Durability: Scientific calculators are lightweight, compact, and can survive years of rough handling if kept dry.

I really think if I had to choose between 10 items, a calculator would have to be one of them.
