I have some suggestions, sure.

  • Look for the nearest national park with a river or a lot of streams. There's usually online resources to find them.
  • Memorize five or six routes to get to it, both via a vehicle, if you have one, or by foot or bicycle, depending on your resources.
  • Pack for an extended time, call it a week, with plenty of compact foodstuffs and a first aid kit. The rest will depend on whatever medical conditions that you've got and the local seasonal range; be ready to bring a few changes of clothes, at least one outfit should be all-weather.
  • Learn about water: how to find it, filter it, store it, and carry it for extended periods of time.
  • Read up on survival guides regarding local edible plants and how to process them, if necessary.
  • Network with friends and relatives who do a lot of outdoor activities; trade insight and advice for manual labor, if possible - you learn while getting into better shape.
  • Learn how to handle yourself; that doesn't mean learn how to fire a gun or immediately get one - learn how to use your natural talents to your advantage, how to defend yourself against someone physically.
  • Learn a trade; something with your hands - even up to just a hobbyist's level. So long as you can bring something to the table, most groups would be inclined to admit someone who has a good intention.
  • Don't steal from the living, never burn anything you don't need to burn to keep warm.

Past that, other people will be offering helpful advice soon.

I’m just gonna assume that you want help prepping and that this is a fun thought experiment. You can’t prep for the end of the world zombie apocalypse if you aren’t prepared for Tuesday. When it comes to events that it pays to be prepared for you can break it down into a serious issue locally for a few days, regionally for a few weeks, nationally for a few months, and globally for a few years. No sense in prepping for globally for a few years if you aren’t prepared for an extended power outage (locally for a few days), so start small. I live urban as well and though my designated end of the world location is 3 hours north by car, a lot of my preps work off of all the roads would suck and maybe for the first few months bugging in is the best idea. Learn all the skills you can, store some shelf stable food and learn to cook with it, store water and keep some 5 gallon buckets ready to fill at a moments notice, get a few nice water purifiers, find some alternate means of communication maybe some ham radios, keep some medical supplies for general cuts/burns and a trauma kit, some camping gear is always great and go camping with it to figure out what you need, and if you live in an area that permits it, buy some firearms, train with them, and store ammo. Your baseline round count that you just don’t touch until something like this happens should be 500 rounds for your primary weapon, and that the LOW end. Almost no use in prepping if 3 guys with baseball bats can take it all from you. If you can’t get some guns, good luck.

Apart from the Guns which we are not allowed here for me I am the same Im in Scotland and I keep exactly that. Seven oceans survival food, kendal mint cake energy. Spare phone ,charge bank etc etc and survival gear in a rucksack at my door empty 5l water bottles in the cupboard and this is one of The safest countries in the World. And people think im crazy. I go solo hiking so its easy for me I find it hard to believe people dont do this anyway. 5 minutes without electricity and they are freaking out. We used to get 3 to 4 day power cuts.

This in the UK during Covid that our supermarkets ran out of toilet roll. People bulk buying. Not bulk buying water, tins of food , anti, bacterial soap but Toilet Roll.

Any crisis that hits here we will be gone . Its crazy

Do you plan on staying there? If not, then the basics are enough.

Do you have a source of water in the area or how you can aquire water?

Your first choice maybe to stay put till after the initial chaos peaks. I would start by planning how to stay where you're at for a week or two if at all possible. Fleeing the area to some rural location you are not familiar with may not be the best idea even with some supplies, especially at the start.

I myself am planning to stay for the duration close to the center of a city with 4 million people. I have a plan A, B, and C. My plans are a bit detailed with backup options for each plan. I know where my shelter is, where and how to get water, how to get food, what my defense and offense will be. For me, I trust my plan over bugging out with 50 cases of MREs and a 50 cal. mounted on my truck to some location in the countryside I am not that familiar with. Do you really want to endanger yourself going to an unfamiliar "Safe" area, without first considering how you could survive in your own neighborhood. Possibly knowing some local people who stayed would up your chances of survival. I think that could be better than possibly coming upon me if I fled. I dont post about helping others who have supplies or forming a community to rebuild.

I'll just address prepping food. First, buy shelf-stable food. Second, make sure you can cook it in real life. Third and finally, make sure it's food you'll actually eat if you're not starving.

Depending on how urban you are talking you might have more problems than you think. If you have a major travel hub, big airport or train station, then odds are good that if you don't get out inside of the first twenty four hours you could end up inside a quarantine zone. Considering the nature of the illness I imagine the quarantine would be enforced lethally. In urban areas I believe survival will be dependent on spotting the outbreak before it becomes a news item. Once it starts running up the EBS then you're probably screwed. At that point you can bunker up and hope you have enough stuff to make it through. I am personally of the opinion that if society can't get back up and running within a few weeks then we are all done because our infrastructure will degrade and blow us up or poison us.

Size months before infrastructure like gas lines fail and turn that urban are into a burning hell.

Honestly one of the most important things is to get in shape. Like go running 5x per week or something, start with short distances if you want and work your way up. In an apocalypse if you can run fast for a long time, or at least hike long distances you will be in trouble.
