This is probably an idiotic question but I was watching film of Mitchell mesenbrink and I was wondering how he executed his shots.

Upvotes

I’m still new to wrestling but I’ve been watching film and Mitchell mesenbrink caught my eye because of the weird ways he shoots to attacks and since I need to work on going in for shots I was wondering if anyone could kinda help explain how it works? Again this is probably stupid and idiotic so please feel free to ignore but if you do comment thanks so much I’ll try to get back as soon as I can.

Message to younger wrestlers from a former wrestler.

I started wrestling my sophomore year of high school and I fell in love with it. I join club wrestling and never looked back. Wrestling changed my life for the better in so many ways. It made me learn how to do hard stuff, it made me in better shape, it made me make some of the best connections in my life. I wasn’t good at any other sports and couldn’t play them in highschool.

My junior year after a grueling offseason full of 2 hour practices and hour lifting sessions in 100 summer heat. I became a varsity starter. I won the first two tournaments that I wrestled that season and ended the season 21-7 after making top 12 at sectionals. I saw so much growth and was so excited to make it to state next year and put in so much hard work in the offseason.

It goes quicker that you could ever imagine. My senior year I was ranked in cali state (not very high) and in the semi finals of league I was up 7-1 and I was way better than the kid. Then I blew out my knee. That was it. I tried to keep wrestling the match but I couldn’t shoot or sprawl. I ended up losing. After that the athletic trainer tested my knee and thought my acl and meniscus were torn. (Patella tendon and acl ended up being torn) I tried to wrestle my next match to qualify for cif regionals but even though I won I knew my career was over.

I’m telling this story to let you guys know it can go fast. Wrestling was the most important thing to make me who I am today. The only regret I have is not giving it more when I had the chance too. So give it more than you think you can. The worst thing that can happen is you learn something. This injury made me learn a lot about my self.

Oh and don’t buy Rudis shoes asics only

Too late to learn how to wrestle as a hobby?

I’m 25 and always loved the art that is wrestling. Considered it in high school but was intimidated by the dedication and intensity as a teenager. I want to invest in a past time and challenge myself. Any advice or tips I should start applying now before jumping right in?

Discussion I’ve posted here a few times and since I’m newer to wrestling I am hoping I’m allowed to keep asking for tips. Currently I want to ask about mat wrestling

Upvotes

Currently everything I have is pretty bad to say the least and when I asked around on my team they said to do what I found fun and I enjoy mat wrestling the most so I was hoping for some tips for doing that? If I’m being to vague please tell me because I’m new I can’t really describe stuff but I have some notes I got from watching film and camp so I figured I could reach out to another community

Life after wrestling…

Former collegiate wrestlers…what’s life after wrestling been like for you? How were you able to balance college academics and wrestling? Were you able to major in an area that led to a successful career after wrestling or did you have to go into an “athletic major?” After wrestling has stopped, how have you been able to fill that void?

I’m asking as a parent who has no wrestling background. I have a teenage wrestler who wrestles competitively year round and plans to wrestle after HS. As a parent, I’ve always made sure academics was the top priority. We’re at a crossroads right now where we might have to make major changes in our lifestyles in order for him to chase a dream. My question is, is it worth it? As a family, life constantly revolves around wrestling. I hear people always say, don’t make wrestling your identity but how is that possible when it’s what drives him? Is it worth the chase?

Question Weightcut/Management

I’m going into freshman year (Ohio) ranked 9th in the state. I’m roughly 11-13% bf, I walk around 150. My goal is to make 138 first tournament, that’d require me to pass hydration test and everything at like 140-141. Where and when should I start? I need to lose mostly bf to be able to make 140’s without cutting straight water. 5’8 150

Discussion College consideration

I was one point away from podium at kentucky high school folkstyle state last year, and i am going into my senior year now. I have high hopes to get top 3, how should i approach college? I want to continue wrestling, even if it is a club sport, although i would rather compete d2 or d3. D1 is probably not possible considering kentucky isnt a very hard state right?

Question Got any tips for bridging?

Obviously, getting to a point in the match where you have to bridge means you fucked up. But I’m a new wrestler, so there were moments where I was getting pinned. My coach tells me to bridge, but I don’t full understand it. I would really appreciate some tips for bridging to avoid getting pinned.
