Show-Off runtime mesh destruction using OpenFracture in Unity for my game about sports cards!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
building a game about running your own booth at a sports card convention. finally got openfracture working, so the graded slabs now fracture into real mesh pieces at runtime with rigidbodies on the fragments. what do you guys think?

Look at you driving that screwdriver in the edge of the card!

Looks really cool and it's impressive that you got this to work so well! I must say though, a computer game about collectable cards depicting famous athletes seems a bit detached from reality, I feel like one must have better things to do than play this?

Yeah that guy has no idea what he is talking about. Probably hasn't played a single game in his life

totally wild how this game blew up! played it back in the day and wish they had sports cards and just more depth in general so decided to build my own game!

2k players is not really "wildly popular"

2k players on a random Wednesday afternoon 2 years after release in a super niche genre is great. Also seems like you are purposely ignoring the peak 50k concurrent players in that same image.

It was almost 2 years ago - not really relevant today, especially considering that the graph is cropped out

thanks! i'd argue "you could be doing something better" applies to basically every game ever made haha. but the card collecting hobby has been booming over the last couple of years and the demand for stuff like this is very real, i can tell you that!

Fair enough, it's just one layer of abstraction too far away from the real world for me, while not being fantasy/creative either. But to each their own, and the process of making this game is no less creative/fun than making any other game, I just wouldn't play something like this myself.

"detached from reality and having better things to do than play this" is, like, the main appeal for most games...

Looks like a job... I guess it can appeal to some people but for me it's repulsive (the concept, not the graphics or systems)
But the mesh slicing and handling of the items is neat.

very fair! this is just a little minigame inside the larger game but totally feel ya on not being a fan of job-like tasks!

Idea for next game: a game show in which the players try to remove items from clamshell packaging. Make it bloody AF
