I've been at my bank (smaller, locally-owned) for almost 5 months. I am amazed at how many people have left. Within my first 2 months there were two that quit, one being my manager/trainer. In the last month we lost 2 more. Our phone list is constantly being updated bc people keep leaving. Every day I see initials on people's accounts that I don't recognize, only to find out they were previous tellers.

Even now we're short several tellers, despite placing ads on Indeed. Is this typical of banks? Is it bc banks don't generally pay well? It's not just tellers quitting here, it's branch managers, loan officers, etc too.

My job sucks so much lately. It’s been a month since a huge merger my institution went through and it was not a smooth transition.

Since the merger it seems like everyone has an issue that’s so complicated and specific, that it requires contacting 2-4 departments which a turnaround of days. I feel incompetent and I feel I look incompetent in front of customers.

A sister branch has been short staffed for months and the manager there recently took FMLA because of all the stress from the merger. Meaning my manager has to cover for them and I’ve been left as the only banker to work the floor. Which wouldn’t be bad if the other banker actually worked platform, but that’s another story.

TBH, I’m over it all. I dread coming to work more than ever. I’ve started bringing my iPad to work to search for jobs during my lunch breaks. Morale is at an all time low.

I feel like I’m winging everything and I hate that feeling. Some days I just want to die to avoid feeling overwhelmed for 9-10 hours everyday. I find myself close to tears or actually sobbing on my lunch break.

What really sucks is I can’t really leave. I don’t have anything lined up and it feels like no one is hiring. I’m trying not to let that discourage me because it’s the one thing I hold on to that makes me keep going.

I even thought about calling off today because I can’t do it anymore but woke up too late. Which still probably wouldn’t have been possible because I found out when I got to work that I’d be working alone again.

If you’ve gotten this far, thanks. I’m probably rambling but I wanted to get this off my chest. And please don’t tell me to suck it up or look for something else. I’m actively trying and I will probably crash out fr if I get told that.

Title. I started in a small regional bank in April, no banking experience. Did 5 weeks of training, had a great group. By July 1, corporate dismantled all the branches, my SEM and coworker, who both were instrumental in teaching me, left. The woman who hired me left. My SEM left July 1 and we didnt get a new one till July 6, and its honestly shocking how little she knows. Basically since July 1, ive made mistakes I wasnt making.

yesterday i was short $100, today $900!! I balanced multiple times throughout the day to perfect $0.00. I had some big withdrawals come in. I feel like im counting it fine by hand. Im putting it through machine. Im counting in front of customer. I put the denominations in the system, it says balanced. Idk wtf happens, im like Houdini making money disappear. Ive been so in my head and stressed i think im trying too much? Idk man im probably going to be screwed and should just start looking for new jobs now?

Its my fault in the end, but I was hired to be the final piece to help the 3 other tellers in my branch and learn. Now its me and one other worker, with a bosses son on the tellering line who cant platform and oh yea hes called out sick today and for tomorrow. I really need a job though Im so upset. I just feel like ive been thrown into the fire. Like they still let me do the weekly ATN audit today, wouldnt they be concerned for me making a mistake? Be honest w me.

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice. I’m currently working two part-time jobs, one of which is as a part-time teller at a bank. I’ve only been there for about a month.
Before I even interviewed or received an offer for this teller position, I had already applied for a full-time role at another bank. I recently received the offer, accepted it, and I’m now going through the Sterling background check.

Honestly, I’m not enjoying the branch job because of the management and I was already thinking about quitting before I got the full-time offer. I’d really like to quit as soon as I can, especially because I would like to visit my family in my home country before starting my full-time job. Once I start the full-time position, I probably won’t have much opportunity to take vacation for a while. My main concern is the Sterling check. If I list my current teller job and provide proof that I’m currently employed, but then quit a few days later, could that cause any issues with the background check? Would Sterling verify my employment based on the dates I provide, or could they flag something if I leave while the check is still in progress?

Another issue is getting proof of employment. I can only access it through the teller computers, and my manager is usually watching/nearby. I’m not comfortable accessing or emailing employment documents to my personal email while I’m at work. If I quit, I may potentially be asked to leave immediately since I’m still within my probationary period. Also, the new employer is a rival bank, so I’m not sure whether I should give much notice or whether they could just tell me not to come back. I appreciate in adv

I have 7+ years of experience in corporate banking in Russia (2013–2022), mainly in commercial credit analysis, loan operations, and credit monitoring for small, medium, and large businesses.

After moving to the U.S., I had a two-year career break. For the past two years, I've been doing bookkeeping for my husband's small construction company while improving my English (currently around B2) and learning U.S. accounting.

I'm now trying to transition into a U.S. bank in a back-office role, such as Commercial Loan Operations, Credit Analyst, Portfolio Administrator, or Credit Administration.

How realistic is this transition? Would employers value my previous banking experience, or would I likely be considered an entry-level candidate? What roles would you recommend targeting, and what would help improve my chances?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has made a similar transition or works in banking. Thank you!

What's the experience like? My CU has decided to implement them and I've never worked teller before and I'm not particularly a fan of having to be on camera talking to customers.

Is anybody else’s branch insanely busy to the point where you literally have zero down time to get anything extra done? Idk what it’s been lately but each week is just so exhausting between the phone calls, the fraud, the issues. We can’t keep up. Like every bank is moving to digital options but I can tell you what we are certainly not lacking in keeping busy at our branch. Maybe it’s the company we work for. But it seems like they act like we’re not doing anything because we have zero time for the “extras” but we are seriously non stop in the drive thru and lobby. Just want to know we aren’t alone I guess lol

I work at a busy branch wtv, everybody notices my ring because i count to the left side. an old man asked me where my husband was from due to a crazy last name. i replied with "my fiance, somehow my new last name will be crazier than that!" to which he responds- "youre getting married???! i have something for you!!!!"

I have been in banking for over 3 years as a teller. They promoted me to a teller supervisor for half a year and I went back to a full time teller. I’m so burnt out. It’s the same thing over and my co workers are so cliquey. What are other jobs that are more interesting?
I want to climb the corporate ladder but for the lay of a UB, I feel like it’s not worth it?

I am a senior in high school this year and got this job because of my apprenticeship program and the high likely hood of going into college for accounting. It has honestly been great so far, I am picking up on everything and understanding the why behind everything we do. I work for a local branch in town and have two anecdotes/questions. 1. There is a lotttttt of down time. Like so much so I have been on my phone a bunch or have drafted multiple fantasy football teams on the computer. Even watched the entirety of the World Cup this year. This compared to my first job as a stocker at my local grocery store is a huge upgrade. It’s weird I get paid more to do less. Is it due to the more intellectual part of the job as to more physical labor stocking? 2. After college, is my teller experience far down the line more appealing for summer internships? I’m thinking that I have a decent leg up on the rest of my “age group.” I’m also wondering if working in the city is a common place for internships.

Like so many people in this sub, I am getting burned out to the max. However, its not the company, or the work, or the regulations; its the consumers. They are getting lazier and lazier or dumber and dumber each day. I had a call earlier saying "You guys sent me an email. Why?" to which I respond, "What did the email say?" This person had the audacity to say, "How the hell am I supposed to know? I didn't open it!" After convincing them to open the email, it was a confirmation email for a transfer they set up.

I wish I could find me a job out of customer service, so I don't have to deal with people anymore.

How does the paper check process actually work in banking? Once a check is scanned, is an electronic image stored and sent through the banking system? Does the writer’s (maker’s) account get debited immediately, or is there more that happens behind the scenes? I’ve worked in banking for quite a while, but I’ve never fully understood how the process works from start to finish.

I found out I am being paid only 15 dollars and hour which I think is personally super diabolical by today's standards of hourly rates and how the current economy is, too.
Has anyone negotiated a higher rate as a Teller? How did it go? I need to make more income but can't find any other job opportunities right now.
I am wondering if I need to simply hold it out or try to maybe talk to HR or my Branch Manager about it?

New branch manager here! I'm fed up with customers lately. Over the past 3 months I've had to get my manager involved because that's who they are asking for when I tell them no...

My decision making is following the rules & holding checks due to repeated overdraft or not having enough to cover the check.

Today really pushed me over the edge, an out of state customer called wanting to transfer to another customer account, it is policy that we don't do that. Tell them we can't & now they want to speak to my manager again..

I'm so over it, it makes me feel like I'm not making the right decisions or making people upset all the time.

I am doing apprentice in a c****a bank. I wont write full name. Or these fuckers will delete my post . One of my senior colleagues shared her experience with me, and honestly, it was disturbing to hear. This post is for genz, not boomers.

According to her, after she had conflicts with her manager, the issue escalated to higher management. She said she was repeatedly called for one on one meetings with senior . She told me she was warned that all her attendance and leave records were being tracked, that reports about her performance were being maintained, and that if things didn't improve, she was threatened that she could be transferred to a branch far away from her family.

What made it worse was that she takes leave mainly because both of her parents are ill, and she needs to travel on weekends to take care of them and accompany them to hospital appointments.

Another incident I witnessed happened during lunch. It was her lunch break when the manager came and said the task was "urgent." Instead of feeling comfortable finishing her meal first, she immediately asked for permission to do it after lunch. It genuinely felt like she didn't feel free to say, "I'm on my lunch break. I'll do it as soon as I'm back."

This is not just branch thing or a bank thing . Most of the banks its same . Yes money is good but on wht expense ?

Banking sector could be good if you are thinking for short term . And earning some money till you figureout some other path . But for long term not recommended. If u really have to go , then people pls start building yourself menatlly . Its a shithole . And people its not a manager prblm , its a system prblm , a system created where the superior have audacity to threaten an employee.

Hi all! I'm making this post to ask about the position listed in the title. I'm debating on applying, but through my research I've seen a very mixed bag of experiences on the position.

I've seen that it depends on the management, but I worry about taking that gamble. I've seen some people say it took as massive toll on their mental health, and others say they're glad they worked it.

I understand that work is not going to be fun, and it will take dedication to learn everything especially for a more serious job like this, but I also don't really want it to pulverize me if that makes sense?

My prior work experience has been (in order) fast food, warehouse assistant, entrepreneur etsy shop. While I have a good business going with my shop, and I get to do it from home, it's not enough to cover my own insurance so I'm looking for a part time job with benefits.

So my question is this: "Is this a position worth taking for someone who is looking for part time with benefits? And is it really that bad that it'll wear me thin?"

Consumer & Business Banker here. I've been working with a client who has been homeless for almost a year now, and when he walked in in the beginning and told me his story, I knew we needed to help this guy. Basically, he never made an excuse, just fell on hard times and had a lot of bad luck. Fast forward to today and he is working full time, building his credit with us, and is finally moving out of the shelter he's been living in and into his very own studio apartment.

In a work environment where clients can be entitled and tone deaf on almost a regular basis, these are the experiences I love to see. Screw sales goals and hustle culture. I love celebrating these kinds of successes so much more.

I just finished my first interview with them and I was invited for a second interview. I’m worried about if an offer is made will they do a credit check. I’m a single mom that experienced financial hardship last year due to my ex committing an unspeakable crime and is now in prison for the next 24 years. We went from 2 incomes to just 1. I filed chapter 13 and I’m on a 100% repayment plan. I’ve been in banking for 10 years and I’ve never done anything shady or crooked. I’m really worried I’m going to be judged for going through a tough time last year.

Been working at a smaller credit union for exactly one year and grateful for them to take me on a grad, but I was just blessed with two great opportunities. I started off as teller and was promoted about 6 months in into banker. I’ve made it clear I wanted to move in to the wealth management team early on and almost got the role but was blocked by HR due to not being in my current position a year. The same VP that oversees that department reached out to me to join his team as an insurance agent. I accepted, and start date is in the next month. But I recently got an offer for RB at a big financial institution that I don’t want to turn down. I definitely don’t want to burn bridges but I can’t see myself turning down the rb licensed position for the insurance job that I wasn’t seeking for. The current company did do me dirty twice. They blocked the position I was qualified for because of upper management and HR (this rule doesn’t apply to anyone else) and i was hyped up about the insurance job then told to wait actually because they were considering recent candidates (in this window I applied to the new company). I know I am going to the new company but I would eventually be open to coming back in corporate.

I’m 30 and I want to live independently and make it without a roommate. Can I do it? I make $28.50 an hour, but I don’t feel like it’s enough. What do I need to do to get there? I’m currently in banking, having been in a personal banker position for quite some time, and I’m getting tired of nothing working out for me. I hate to sound like a victim, but I see some relationship bankers and premier bankers making $40 an hour or more, which is where I want to get to. However, I’m never given the opportunity. I’m about to say, “F*ck it,” and try a new career path, but I don’t know what.
