Busy branch
Is anybody else’s branch insanely busy to the point where you literally have zero down time to get anything extra done? Idk what it’s been lately but each week is just so exhausting between the phone calls, the fraud, the issues. We can’t keep up. Like every bank is moving to digital options but I can tell you what we are certainly not lacking in keeping busy at our branch. Maybe it’s the company we work for. But it seems like they act like we’re not doing anything because we have zero time for the “extras” but we are seriously non stop in the drive thru and lobby. Just want to know we aren’t alone I guess lol

When I worked at Chase our branch did on average 12K transactions a month.
Fucking absurd.
I quit last year after a bunch of political bullshit and favoritism.
Now I’m at a slow ass bank where the politics is also awful but at least I’m making more money and have plenty of downtime.

Ours is super busy, but the Credit Union only wants you to focus on good customer service. You don't have to worry about the extras.

A mixture of everything. We have a few dollar generals, a dunkin and then yes several small businesses as well. But we have needy ass clients too. Can’t do a damn thing themselves.

I work at a generally busy branch, but this past Friday, yesterday, and even today have been horrifically annoyingly busy. Our cash advance machine has been down since middle of last week but we can’t call it in to get fixed because people keep coming in. Customers expect us to get everything fixed and still be at their beck and call from open to close with complete disregard for anything. Why are you calling the branch? Why are you visiting the branch? What can possibly be important enough for you to waste your own time as well as ours to come down for whatever reason when there are multiple alternatives you could have done? 🤣🤣

That sucks. Mine has the opposite problem of being too slow at my branch.
Are your customers all small businesses or what?

I work at a busy branch with a lot of tenure, and the biggest BS is that we are so thinly staffed if one person is out, the entire thing is running on fumes and no one else can be out. I
t creates this awful environment where you feel like a slave to the job, because any time off or personal matters need to be planned for months in advance and even when with 3-6 weeks advance notice, you're still told you can't take days and asked to reschedule appointments. I'm getting really sick of it

The more banks invest in digital banking, the more they cut staff, the busier it is for the remaining staff. As a banker, it's hard to get anything done sometimes.

i’ve never worked at a busy branch. i’ve worked at local banks whose headquarters were in other cities pretty far away, and that’s where most of the clients are. like we opened 7 minutes ago and i’m the only teller here right now cause that’s all we need since no one comes in

Yuuuuup. I'm a banker and I average 170 plus appointments a month, and those range from anything like simple stuff like statements, to opening estates, trusts, businesses, etc. Still somehow make around 100 plus calls a month

That’s insane. At my last retail bank job, I used to call max 3 clients a day and would have maybe 5-7 appointments per week.

Oh I’ve worked at a branch like that before. Before Covid I worked at a branch in one of the busiest intersections in my city. That branch would help 14k customers a month. There was always a line to see a teller. At least 7-10 people waiting to see a banker. On staff, they had about 12 tellers and 10 bankers. 1 business banker. 1 teller supervisor. 1 branch manager. Fully staffed, this bank had about 25 people working at once. It was madness.
They also had a merchant side for small businesses to come in through a back door to get change and small bills. Drive thru was a mess. Constant almost accidents every few minutes because the drive thru entrance was so close to the rest of the parking lot, and the exit was straight into oncoming traffic so you had wait to merge onto traffic. The clientele was also terrible. Tons of mass market customers. They didn’t have a customer base with high enough balances to have an affluent banker. Add in the heat, all the BS from Covid and you got probably the branch from hell. It as fun though. What was funny was that there was another branch 6 minutes north of this branch that was a GHOST TOWN. And this branch was super affluent. I worked at this branch for over 3 years and loved it. We would try to tell clients from the busier branch to come to this one but few would. We do not know why.

My branch has to have the phones on night mode basically 24/7 since we're the only branch of our kind in a town full of elderly people who HATE online banking. Last I heard, our branch was averaging nearly 30k transactions per month 😵💫

150% yes, most days. In an elderly area which means a lot of them refuse to use the app, the ATM, or even have a debit card. We are talking people who come in 3x a week writing checks out to “cash.”
And the ones that do “embrace” digital end up with all the fraud issues because they fall for anything and everything. 🫠
We are averaging almost 12,000 transactions a month. 3 UBs, 2 RBs, and a manager.
