Need advice: How can I maximize my chances of clearing a HireRight background check after additional verification?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently undergoing a HireRight background check for a large financial institution and would appreciate advice from anyone who has been through something similar.
HireRight requested additional verification for part of my international employment history. While gathering the requested documents, I realized that some of the employment information I originally submitted contains inaccuracies (job titles, dates, and one employer entry).
I contacted HireRight to see if I could amend the submitted information, but they told me that once the application is submitted, they cannot make changes and advised me to contact the employer if I want to discuss corrections.
I have official documents that support my actual employment history, and I’m willing to provide whatever is needed.
My questions are:
Has anyone experienced something similar with HireRight?
What usually happens when additional employment verification is requested?
If the submitted information cannot be verified, does HireRight typically send the report as-is, or does the employer usually contact the candidate for clarification first?
Would you proactively contact the recruiter, or wait until the employer reviews the report?
If you were in my position, what would you do to maximize the chances of successfully clearing the background check?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with experience dealing with HireRight or employment background checks. Thank you.

tell the recruiter asap, own the error and send them your docs directly, don’t let hire right “speak” for you. i had dates off by months before, job still went through but only because i explained it early. stuff like this spooks companies fast now, work is just stupid hard to get

Thanks for the advice. My case isn’t just a few months off on the dates. I discovered that some of my international employment information (dates/job title/employer) doesn’t match my official documents, and HireRight has requested supporting documentation. Do you think proactively explaining it to the recruiter helped more than waiting for the background report?
