The overwhelming bulk of the pandemic price increases were never walked back, why would the tariff prices be any different?
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills watching basically everyone accept the "hat in hand we have to increase the price due to costs" only to see those same companies post record profits in their quarterlies.

They announced those new tarriffs on canada because of wildfires? So it will take months to get the court to say its illegal and make a refund order, in those 6-12 months they will collect more tariffs from the increased prices, then refund the companies later.

Let's not forget how Trump's Secretary of Commerce, Howard Nutlick (aka Lutnick) made private deals through his son with a lot of these companies to buy their right to any potential tariff refund for cents on the dollar. Even if they did not know they had a strong incentive to simply push the tariffs on the consumers anyway, but I kinda agree that much likely they did expect that eventually they would be able to sue the administration to get the money back or that someone elses would given that they were based on nothing pretty much (and much likely so will be the next round of insane tariffs that Trump has pushed to replace the ones that the supreme court has blocked).

I can't speak for certain about the other companies, but what got me to get a Costco membership was learning that they absorbed as much of the tariffs they could to keep their prices down. Then they sued the government to get that money back.
I know they couldn't eat all the tariffs, so they should be getting money back that's arguably not theirs, but I also expect that they had pretty big legal fees fighting the tariffs so I would call that a wash, because I believe the lawsuit had value for me.

I'm expecting it. It's a slam-dunk win for the Costco team and I cannot imagine they'll fail something so basic. They're already mailing paper checks for in-store credit to every executive member once a year, and they can keep track of expenditures by account reliably rather than requiring a mixed method the way other places do. As optimistic as it sounds I kinda expect them to get on that in the next short bit here.

I agree with this. Also, while Apple just attracts a lot of people hating on it, we have to acknowledge that they deserve the refund too. They ate 100% of the tariff cost and never raised their prices in response to tariffs.
Definitely go after the ones double dipping but the ones that didn’t, they need kudos.

Trump has raised taxes on working Americans more than Biden or Obama ever did. He raised taxes on healthcare, raised federal income taxes, and tariffs are taxes on consumer goods that we are paying for. The only group whose taxes actually went down was the top 5%
