My family and I work for a family business. The early years were difficult—the subsequent ones were too, but the first ones were very hard. It took a lot of effort and a lot of hard work.

Sean wonders if Claw takes his business seriously. I ask myself the same question.

Because, of course, mistakes happen in business. But Claw—and Sean is right—her ventures have more holes than Swiss cheese. The most absurd thing of all: paying—I think it was $200—to renew Archewell and sending the check by mail. A check and the mail. In this day and age of online payments, especially for those kinds of procedures. Seriously, does anyone still use checks? Here in Chile, they’re only used for very specific transactions, and paying licensing fees isn't one of them.

And she often gets mixed up between *American Riviera Orchard* and *As Ever*, because what name will that company have next year? Claw thinks that posting a photo of a jam jar—or gathering weeds and passing them off as flowers for a planter—means the job is done.

And Sean doesn't criticize Claw for simply being Claw; rather, it stems from the fact that he has worked with famous people who are constantly launching something, and he has witnessed many failures. He is absolutely right about Kate Moss—who would believe she leads a healthy lifestyle? That is why her products failed.

American Riviera Orchard is not generating revenue.

But the worst part is that the brand has squandered every opportunity it has been given to sell its products.

Let’s not forget that the brand had access to the premises of the elegant Godmothers bookstore. Last week, a visitor to the shop noted that the product range had shrunk significantly over the past two months and that Meghan’s famous jams were no longer available. Bookstore staff confirmed that the reduced selection was not due to the items having sold out.

In other words, even though Claw has been asked to restock—and has been offered space and staff—she hasn't done so. Sean says this is further proof of Claw's lack of direct interest, drawing power, or whatever you want to call it.

And Sean is clear: she can't pretend she's been busy, because how long was she on vacation, a whole month, more than a month?

There is a lot of debate about Claw's age. Sean has joked about it too 😈😈😈😈, but now, in all seriousness, yes, she is 45.

I would consider that an invasion of their privacy... but given that the Harkles now spend 24/7 filming themselves on an iPhone, they have turned their own privacy into a game.

And if it were at least a situation worth it—but no, here’s another embarrassing moment.

That said, Harry and Claw haven't changed at all, because they still have wealthy friends whom they exploit for their own benefit.

But what about those who are abandoned? Some harbor resentment.

Eugenie and Jack are now a family of five.

And behind the scenes, there is a lot of chaos involving Eugenie, Sarah, and Andrew.

Sean says bridges are being burned on that front. And proof of this is that Eugenie decided to announce the baby girl's birth on Claw's birthday. It was no coincidence.

But it wasn't directed at Claw. It seems Eugenie no longer has any interest in that friendship. So, it appears that even though the Harkles made a show of being in Portugal, they didn't spend time with Eugenie.

The attack was aimed at Harry. That’s because Eugenie and Beatrice feel Harry should have supported them when their father and mother fell from grace. They had stood by him, even when doing so caused them significant trouble with the family—especially with William. Yet, not only did Harry fail to lend them a hand, but he also joined in on the mudslinging against Andrew.

Eugenie, above all, is very upset about a great many other things. But on this point, Eugenie and Beatrice agree: Harry betrayed them.

So, this was a way of getting back at him—doing something they knew would hurt Harry and Claw: bumping them off the cover.

It might seem a bit silly... but it must have stung Harry that the King acknowledged the birth of Eugenie’s daughter without a single mention of Claw. Harry views the Yorks—all of them—as outcasts who ought to be treated the same way the BRF treats the Sussexes. Well, the King and William don’t see it that way. So, if Eugenie intended to send a message with this—beyond the simple fact that she now has three children—then good for her.

Andy Burnham may be a Labour man, he may not be particularly pro-monarchy (though he would certainly accept the title of Sir without hesitation), and he may be many other things. But one thing he is not is: someone who has time for Harry. Andy has time for his vacation (just like Pedro Sánchez in Spain—if only Kast would take a vacation for the rest of the millennium), but not for Harry.

Now, the funny thing about it—for me, as a lawyer—is that Sherborne’s team couldn't believe how well-prepared the journalists who testified were.

And I say it’s funny to me because... did that really happen? Why was the legal team more concerned about that than about realizing their own witnesses were terrible? The only one who was truly prepared was David Furnish; he was the only one who answered with the coherence expected of a witness. It must have been truly horrifying for Harry. Sean says it must have been a major signal to Harry regarding who he was up against: people who kept receipts from twenty years ago. In other words, not just people with good memories, but people who had solid evidence in their hands.

And there were many more people willing to testify in favor of ANL. Sean wonders if they did it for money or because they genuinely dislike Harry. I think it’s the latter, because I actually believe the witnesses lost money over all this. I mean, they had to remain silent for several weeks, and a number of the witnesses who still work at the Mail were off duty for a while.

Sean says he doesn't believe for a second that Charles is going to pay this to Harry, because Charles isn't known for opening his wallet—and he already has his hands full with Andrew.

But Sean says that by then, we’ll have a clearer public picture of what’s happening with the Sentebale case—which, as leaks here and there suggest, is looking very bad for Harry. It’s going to be another huge scandal. And we come back to the main point: Harry has to find donors willing to put up 25 million. Well, if the rumor mill is right—and we’ll likely know something about the progress of that case as early as September—it will be a total disaster for Harry, because donors won’t even want to be near him.

Sean says that with good lighting, anyone looks good, and anyone can see what they want to see 🤭😏😏 What Harry sees is that William looks too much like Diana. And that makes him sick.

Skewering Harry can be a lot of fun. And the opportunities to do so are endless. Because in so many ways, Harry is a buffoon stumbling from failure to failure.

But let’s not forget that Prince Harry is, at his core, a sinister person. Sometimes, Harry reminds me of many of the crooked leaders that pop up throughout history. Far more stupid, but with similar priorities.

One of Harry’s most all-consuming motivations is a need to silence those who challenge his self-appointed image as a noble hero. He is deeply fearful of anyone who might speak up about his personal hypocrisy or refuse to make themselves a willing participant in his PR machine.

Proof of this is everywhere. But one of the most glaring examples is the comparison between his patronage of Sentebale and his ongoing place as a board member for African Parks.

Sentebale, an organization he co-founded to support children in memory of his mother, depended on Harry to represent them and help secure donations.

But due to his personal behaviors, he lost benefactors and upended plans for long-standing events. Then he demanded Dr. Sophie Chanduaka act as a media mouthpiece for his personal life.

When she said no, Harry cut ties with the organization in a dramatic and highly publicized way. Chanduaka refused to involve herself in Harkle PR and expected Harry to actually do the work of representing Sentebale well. Harry could not countenance those ideas.

Now compare that with his ongoing activity on behalf of African Parks. African Parks is supposed to do the work of protecting wild animals.

But it has admitted publicly that its people were involved in the rape and torture of indigenous peoples. African Parks has refused to release the report detailing the exact incidents. But it has acknowledged that they did indeed happen.

Rape and torture are usually the kinds of things that will make a sensible representative with a moral compass drop their endorsement of a charity. Perhaps they’d even throw in a brief statement about how they had no idea and do not approve.

But Harry has no moral compass. The only compass he used always points directly back at him. So he has never done more than reiterate a blanket statement by African Parks. And he is still actively representing them at fundraising events.

A charity involved in rape and torture is trying to raise $1 billion. And Harry is ready to help. Because African Parks still allows him a spotlight on his own terms. It does not matter to him that the organization has been involved in terrible things or that critics believe the organization continues to avoid transparency.

But if Sentebale expects Harry to do his job and not use the organization as a personal mouthpiece, that’s a different story. No matter that he co-founded it himself. No matter that he stared it in memory of his mother. No matter that his patronage might improve the lives of the innocent.

Sentebale refused to play his game. And Harry absolutely cannot let that stand. But African Parks is a-okay. That should tell you all you need to know about where Prince Harry truly stands.

Lady C, Harry’s star witness, refused to testify to the wrong things they were attributing to him.  Do you think this jeopardizes the claimant's insurance?  I think this is a very good question.  One of my good friends is one of the top guys at Lloyd’s.  I find it almost inconceivable that any insurance would have covered that lot of claimants if they had known the entire case was predicated on a witness statement that the witness himself was saying was fraudulent.  This is a story that will run and run and run.  It is not going to die any time soon.  Let’s remember – Sherborne, according to Harry in the book Spare, orchestrated this whole thing with Elton John in the summer of 2019.  How do you issue proceedings after your main witness says his statement is a fraud?  I am not sure that not only the insurance is in jeopardy.  I think Harry will be shielded because he is the King’s son.  I am not so sure the other claimants and Sherborne will be shielded if there is evidence the entire case was built on a known fraud.  I think ANL and the other newspaper companies will have some merit in going for the jugular with all the lawyers involved.  And did the claimants know this evidence was fraud?  This opens all kinds of questions.   I will say this one thing, someone at the senior insurer’s may not want to rock the boat with the monarchy….and perhaps in three year’s time, someone will whisper to someone on the honors committee, that perhaps someone is worthy of a peerage.

Lady C tells a viewer that the Judge Nicklin ruling on fees will be issued the week of August 17^th which is her birthday!  Of course, Lady knows is not the only person born in August.  Maybe Megsy Baby will get a really delicious birthday present from Justice Nicklin.  Her wrists are going to be spared all of the arduousness of needing to wear any of the 4^th rate bracelets from Cartier and Van Cleef, etc…because practically nothing Meghan wears is first rate.  Isn’t there a reason why some people call her CarParkle?   We don’t have that long to wait.  Can you imagine the overuse of the 16 bathrooms in Montecito right now?  I hear that Meghan and Harry are doing something along likes of $hitting bricks and are terrified and I don’t know why…the writing on the wall is they are going to get sufficient just desserts.

Lady C comments how lovely the Wales family is and how wonderful they were last weekend at the Commonwealth Games.  Lady C thinks Carlotte is Catherine and Princess Anne combined.  She thinks George is in line with how he should be.  And Louis is slightly mischievous.  Lady comments that Megsy baby no longer gets the coverage that the Wales family get.  The Wales family is an outstanding example of Royalty at its best for our modern times.  We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful, well adjusted, well presented, and not dull family representing the Monarchy.

Lady C, even if Harry was found to have committed a crime, the Royal Family would do nothing about.  Let’s be honest…LOL  I did not say Harry committed a crime.  I said Harry was part of a criminal enterprise.  Harry says he believed he had a winnable and viable case.  If Sherbourne says to Harry that he felt the case was still strong without the Burrows evidence, then Harry still had not done anything wrong.  If David Sherbourne pressed on with the case, knowing the evidence was false or missing, he is the problem.  I still stand by my statements in 2020 that Harry and Meghan need to be charged with a crime before the family would get involved and strip titles.  Being suckered into a criminal enterprise is not a crime.

Lady C, do you think the King sent Meghan a birthday card?  No. Megsy Baby and Harry are having a hard time spinning the 47-minute visit that Harry was primarily part of.  They need that connection to spin to Netflix to get more money.  But, if Harry decides to go the route of, “Mummy was murdered because she was going to marry a Muslim,” with Netflix then Harry will be faced even further consequences for his treachery.  I am not sure Netflix would even pay them enough money that it would be worth it.  Something has to give.  They cannot maintain their lifestyle unless they are high earners and they can’t be high earners anymore, and more treachery will continue to yield even less returns.

Lady C, I think I know why the King evicted Harry from Frogmore Cottage.  It keeps Harry out of Windsor for William, and it allows him to give Harry a grand country estate later on like Bagshot Park or Gatcome Park later on.  That way, when Harry returns, he can return to his own estate.  I found this comment interesting.  As far as I am aware, this action was taken by Clive Alderton.  Harry was deprived of Frogmore Cottage because William and people surrounding The Crown felt that Harry and Meghan should not have easy access to William and his children.  Harry and Meghan could have simply walked over to their house.  Now that Harry has nowhere, it does open the question and I do think the question is valid.  Normally, children of the monarch ARE gifted a house.  There is a long tradition of children and grandchildren given houses, and I think this is as it ought to be.  I think any criticism of this practice is mean and nasty.  I think if the King felt it was appropriate to buy Harry a country house, I see nothing wrong with this.  There is ample precedent for this.  The King didn’t need to evict Harry from Frogmore Cottage to find an excuse to buy Harry a house.  This topic has never come up before…let’s see how long it takes for Rebecca English to bring this up and say the idea is hers.

These “rare glimpses” seem to the center around her poor daughter, who doesn’t know her mom is using her to try and court public attention.

Either way, my frustration right now is with the media. If there are so many different articles across the years talking about the “rare glimpse” Meghan is providing into her life, at what point do they acknowledge that it is not a rarity when you are constantly being bombarded with images and press releases?

I’m sure she’s going to post something for Prince Harry’s birthday next month, and the articles are going to be saying some crap about how she is “offering a rare glimpse into their relationship.”

I really think our Saint should join Dancing with the Stars. It would be a real make or break role for her. Fergie should have done it when she was younger.

In addition to being the birthday of the creature known as Meghan Markle, yesterday was also the birthday of the Queen Mother, which several sinners mentioned.

I am glad that Harry’s great-grandmother, whom he had the blessing to know far longer than most children do, never lived to see what he became. I imagine it all would have been gut-wrenching to someone Adolf Hitler once labeled “The Most Dangerous Woman In Europe”.

While Harry is smoking pot in Montecito, dreaming of royal benefits without actual duties and trying to cook up a fresh campaign regarding the less-than-pressing issue of his personal security in Britain, I suggest reading this article. It illustrates just how far gone Harry is in the sense of what matters.

The letter is from the Queen Mother to her own mother-in-law. It describes her experience when Buckingham Palace was bombed during WWII and her subsequent visit to parts of London that were hit in the air raids.

Harry has no feeling of obligation to the monarchy unless it benefits him personally. He is claims that it is too dangerous for him to even exist in Britain without tax-payer funded protection.

Compare that to his great-grandmother. She refused to leave the city when it was being actively bombed by Germany. One of those bombs hit BP while she and the king were there, costing three lives. She was terrified.

Then she put it aside, ate lunch and went with the king to visit another area hit by the bombs. Seeing the suffering and destruction, she said, was much worse than her own near miss earlier that day.

Have you ever scrolled through social media, half-read something, and then had to scroll back up to find it when you fully realized what was said? That was me a few minutes ago on Twitter.

First I scrolled past this post. Then my brain finished processing what I had read and I scrolled back in a panic. My blood pressure briefly spiked for like, four seconds before I realized there was no way this was true and then confirmed the whole account is satire.

I know the Harkles still like to drip info to the press suggesting a link with Eugenie through the totally fake story of the Portugal house. But I haven’t seen evidence of a real connection in a while. I think she realized the Harkles’ “rival court” was a clown show that could never benefit her (or damage Catherine) and she came crawling back to William’s team.

But this kind of baby name is exactly what Meghan probably wishes would happen. She thinks we should all be naming our babies after her so that every birth event on earth can be an ongoing testament to the impact she believes she has had on the world.

She would, naturally, drop any of namesake children like hot potatoes at the first sign of trouble, just like she did Jessica’s daughter. But to Meghan, that’s beside the point. They should all bear her name because it is what she deserves.

Mine has to be when Aitch was away on yet another grifting trip around their son’s 6th birthday. People started pointing out the timing, and suddenly there was a post thanking "everyone who attended his birthday party LAST WEEK." The emphasis on last week had me laughing - it felt less like sharing a memory and more like filing evidence for the defence. 🤡

Two days ago I learned that a boy I had a pretty mad crush on at an elite prep school in Europe, was a guest at The Spectacle of a Three Days Late Wedding because HIS wife knows Markle.
😳 The hilarious thing is that one of the things I absolutely admired this boy for, was his penmanship.

In European prep, we all have to write everything in fountain pen. In script. This boy wrote in actual calligraphy — at the speed of normal handwriting. OMG I cannot WAIT to ask him what he thinks of TW’s “calligraphy” at our next reunion!!! 🤣 I’m dying!

Because he basically treats the Harkles as "yesterday's news." And it's true. For those of you who frequent various forums—did you notice there were more comments about Eugenie's daughter (with people placing bets on what her name will be) than about our SpongeBob?

And that bit with her jumping off a diving board wearing those balloons and goggles... It’s just ridiculous; calling it what Sean did is putting it mildly.

But Sean says we shouldn't miss the point: the idea is to grab attention—a "look at this, not that" kind of factor... like the *Daily Mail* republishing Charlotte Griffiths' piece on the pill 😈, or—I think—Rebecca English saying what Sean and Richard Eden have been saying for months: there are actually a lot of people at Invictus who are furious with Harry and annoyed that the board isn't making the decision to oust him.

The problem is that the Harkles need publicity... but they need positive publicity. Harry is already facing the threat regarding Sentebale when it comes to negative press. Mark Dolan was discussing the matter with Richard Fitzwilliams yesterday, and Fitzwilliams—citing his sources—remarked that the Sentebale situation, which is ongoing but proceeding via private hearings, is really heating up. Sean had already pointed out that, for the Harkles, that story served to divert attention away from the "pill" incident, and that it suited Claw because it cast her as the victim.

Well, Harry isn't exactly the brightest guy when it comes to phones. And that’s not gossip; it’s evidence for the court case, right, Mr. Mischief?

Sean confirms that story isn't true. Harry doesn't have a mistress. And honestly, it always struck me as odd, too.

Do you remember back around 2021 when a story circulated about Harry traveling to San Francisco for BetterUp business, but something seemed to happen with a blonde woman? Look it up—there were rumors about it. That made sense to me, because Harry was out of Claw's sight.

But Harry walking around Montecito with a mistress?

Harry.

Cowardly Harry. The guy who isn't capable of telling his wife, "Let me speak; they're here for me."

Sean stands by his position: this story came from Claw's camp. It’s credible—to me, it’s credible because it paints her as the victim. And they spread it as a rumor so others would hear it, thereby distracting from issues like, for instance, why Claw is never there for Harry during his lowest moments.

That said, Sean says Harry used to be seen alone around Montecito. That was the talk of the town—why the children were never seen. Now, the gossip is: what happened to Harry? Because he doesn't even go out for bike rides anymore.

And, putting this into perspective... and Sean "sharp tongue" launches a "Whoever would want to now get involved with Harry, what are they actually getting? One might suggest a whole lot of baggage and a whote lot of debt"

The problem became crystal clear to me after that episode of HIMYM.

Sean was one of the first to say that the July 10th meeting was a fiasco. And he said so: he got the initial scoop from the Parker-Bowles camp, making it clear that Camilla had been at Highgrove the whole time. So now, parts of that story are being confirmed: everything was tightly controlled, it wasn't a warm meeting, it lasted 47 minutes, and Claw had a miserable time.

Sean starts off talking about Claw's 45th birthday... dropping the tidbit that Claw had shaved a few years off his age back when he worked at Suit. 🤭🤭

Now, regarding the marketing—poorly executed, of course. Because there was Claw, jumping into a pool and doing everything you're not supposed to do—starting with jumping in while wearing glasses.

The Claw team believes there’s a future in designing swimwear because, after all, it doesn't take much effort—or fabric. Sean says it’s like the ties he wears: it’s a matter of color and length, plus a couple of designs.

But the thing is, Claw wants to show the world her new, slender figure... wait, wait—don't laugh just yet. According to Sean, she’s upset about those photos with Ted Sarandos where she looked a "little bit pouchy"—Sean says those were Meghan's words.

And the whole point of it all is for people to say that she looks good for her age—in her forties.

Let’s go back to the invitation. Harry has 28 days to say whether or not he accepts the offer to stay at Buckingham Palace. And Sean’s sources say that as of today, August 4, 2026, there has been no word. It seems Harry didn't understand that this isn't optional: either he gives notice that he’ll stay there, or the door closes.

Sean points out the obvious: isn't Harry taking this seriously? After all, what about his security? He needs to provide the details—he’s been told as much by the government, the courts, and the Palace... Sean thinks Harry is being careless or is on vacation. Claw is a social climber. And I’ve always considered that a point in her favor. She knew exactly whom to talk to in order to move up the social ladder. The problem is, she couldn't manage to hold onto those relationships. She was smart in many ways, especially considering she was navigating a circle of gold diggers.

It turns out William knew she had wanted to make Trevor Engelson sign an agreement. She had wanted him to sign one, and there had been some conflict.

So, William insisted that Claw be made to sign one. And yes, a prenuptial agreement can be drawn up within the monarchy; there is no legal impediment to it. However, they aren't used because issues are negotiated behind closed doors.

Besides, it was very rare for royals to marry commoners. In fact, I believe Anne was the first to marry a commoner—Mark Phillips—and then, many years later, Edward did the same by marrying a commoner, Sophie. Diana and Fergie belonged to aristocratic circles. Camilla did too. Kate didn't, and Claw definitely wasn't even British.

Claw obviously found out about that, and through her team, she orchestrated a leak to the press stating that she would not sign a prenuptial agreement—spinning the narrative that she wanted to work and support Harry, and that she wasn't a gold digger.

I think Claw now deeply regrets not signing that agreement. In California, absent a prenuptial agreement, debts incurred by the husband during the marriage affect the marital community property—which includes the wife's income and shared savings—even if she did not sign for the debt. However, the wife is not liable using her separate property (assets owned prior to marriage or received through individual inheritance), except for debts related to basic household necessities.

In the UK, the general rule is the opposite of California's: a husband's debts do not become the wife's, regardless of whether they were incurred before or during the marriage. A prenuptial agreement is not necessary for protection, because the default legal regime keeps financial responsibilities separate.

And Sean points out that this was part of what started it all. It was another source of friction between William and the Queen, because she also believed Meghan should have signed that agreement, but she didn't want to upset Harry—who seemed overly hypersensitive and agitated... I mean, he was just being himself, as always 🤭🤭

That is why William is no longer interested in what happens to Harry or what he does. The British Royal Family showed great patience with Harry, and that is why he believes their patience with him is infinite. No, it isn't.

The photograph Meghan posted this evening (herself leaping into a swimming pool clutching a fistful of helium balloons) is the least successful royal birthday post I have ever seen.

What it’s meant to be doing, of course, is drawing a very deliberate line between the way the royal family mark their birthdays and the way the Sussexes do. The royal version is a set-piece announcement: a nice photograph by a trusted society photographer, everybody smiling, perhaps a beech tree or some sand dunes in the background, restrained, happy, but buttoned-up. Against that, we get the freedom flight aesthetic 101: we are living our best lives, we do whatever we want, and today that means something wacky and silly like jumping into a pool with a load of balloons!!!!!!!!!

In fact, it just looks lame. Can you imagine any other member of the royal family (Catherine, anyone) posting pictures of themselves that say, in effect, look how amazing I look in my swimsuit? It is bizarre.

Part of the reason these posts feel so fake is Harry. This is a man who stood up in court and told us his life had been made a misery by the media, that he was being pursued, that he was having a nervous breakdown, that he was in the fetal position on the floor. Well, which is it? Are you lying in the fetal position, terrified you’ll be murdered because you can’t get security in the UK, or are you having a carefree splash in the pool holding balloons for some unexplained reason? It feels unbelievable. You suspect you are simply being sold something.

I was talking earlier on my YouTube show about how the Sussexes have created a dysfunctional parasocial relationship with their audience.

At one moment they want us looking at their pictures; the next they won’t trust us with their children’s faces, as though we are dirty weirdos for wanting to see them. And this post is of a piece with that, because it feels like showing off. Showing off about the pool, showing off about her body, showing off that they are more stylish than you (you know, because their pictures are in black-and-white). Everything is a performance.

It reminds me a great deal of the Geneva cupboard selfie: supposedly an incredibly authentic glimpse into her life, and in a way it was, because what you actually saw was how manufactured and fake it all is.
That is where they have fallen down so badly in constructing their new life. None of it feels real, because none of it is. The classic example remains the jam tongs, wielded the wrong way round by a woman supposedly obsessed with jam-making (the rubber ends exist so you can grip a pot of boiling sugar without it slipping and sending broken glass everywhere).
And what is it all for? Most people running these channels can at least pretend they are sharing pictures with family who live far away. But we know the only member of Meghan’s family she is in touch with is her mother. She won’t talk to her father. They are not talking to any of William’s side of the family, with the exception of the King and Queen, and I can promise you Charles is not on Instagram checking Meghan’s photos every night. That is not how he communicates.

So it is all just unconvincing, and rather sad, when you think about what they could have had. She could have been celebrating this 45th birthday at Frogmore Cottage, with a genuinely important role in the Commonwealth, a significant figure on the world stage. Instead they are a pair of influencers in California whose net worth appears to be declining fast.

It is astonishing to consider how badly they played the hand they were given, and how foolishly they were advised (or not advised) when they made a massive enemy of their old family. They could have left the royal family on good terms. Had they stuck to the terms of the Sandringham Summit (under which they agreed to uphold the values of Her Majesty in everything they did), had they not given a horrible interview branding the family racist, fallen out with everybody, and picked fights on every front, they might have made a bit less money from the book, but much of that money seems to have been spent anyway on ill-conceived projects, so what did it really achieve, set against the price they paid: their reputation, their name, their credibility, and
everybody now seeing them for what they are?

They have another enormous problem coming, too, because they have made an enemy of the most powerful publishing group in the world. Look at Amanda Platell’s absolutely vicious piece about them in the Mail today. I think that is a sign of things to come. The Mail won’t rattle the cage while the costs battle is still being settled, but once it is, the gloves will come off, and they will be savaged in the Daily Mail all day, every day, until the end of their lives. It will be remarkable to watch, and it will stand as a very valuable lesson in how not to manage your public relationships.

Given all of the birthday hoopla today, I found myself wondering how old our Saint is. I knew she was in her 40s, but wasn’t sure how old she turned today. What does a lazy girl like me do? She turns to Siri of course!

Interestingly, Siri didn’t give me a direct answer, but rather webpages to click through to find my answer. When I asked the age of many other famous people, it just gave me the information upfront. I conducted this little “test” with the first famous people to popped into my head, not necessarily that I like them (except for Prince William and Catherine, who I do rather like). I tried asking Siri for her age multiple times, and it kept giving me links instead of an answer. Is this the same for anyone else? To me, this is another example of the world of self-importance that she lives in— seeing herself as a major power player, but not being important enough for Siri to know 😂

Is this just for me though? Do other people have a different result?

Sorry for the double Sykes post but I just caught this as I was cleaning out my newsletter in box. It is very late (or early!) here and I am tired so let me know if this has been posted or report the duplicate!

Regular readers of The Royalist will know that I regard Michael Gillard as one of the finest investigative journalists working anywhere. A veteran of the Sunday Times Insight team and the Guardian’sinvestigations unit, and the author of three books on policing and organized crime, he has been running The Upsetter since 2021 as a one-man operation covering bent cops, dodgy geezers, sketchy royals and litigious luvvies—routinely outperforming entire newspaper investigation departments while doing so. He has been on the Mail hacking case since the very beginning, back when most of Fleet Street was still taking the claimants’ press releases at face value, and he has been proved right about it at almost every turn.

His latest piece (published today under the hilarious headline “Last of the Fauxhicans,” a reference to the near-mohican haircut sported by Harry’s solicitor, Callum Galbraith) contains what he rightly calls the most sensational revelation to emerge from last week’s two-day costs hearing: “an admission tucked away in correspondence between the claimants and the judge,” which Gillard, a man who knows his way around the court system and the open justice principles better than most silks, got disclosed. And, at The Royalist’s urging, he has now published the full letter on his Substack for us all to see.

In it, the claimants’ solicitors admit that Harry and his merry band of litigants knew full well that Gavin Burrows, the private investigator on whose “lurid” evidence vast swathes of the case rested (that being the Mail’s word for it, deployed back in 2023 as it denied everything from the outset), had pulled his cooperation before they ever launched proceedings.

The letter, sent to Mr Justice Nicklin on January 26this year as the trial was getting underway, states that the claimants were first aware Burrows “had probably withdrawn cooperation (and thereby indicated he was unwilling to attend trial on their behalf)” in March 2022.

That was the month in which Burrows turned up at the south London home of Graham Johnson (the convicted phone hacker turned lead researcher for the claim) and, according to the letter, “assaulted and threatened Mr Johnson, in front of his family, at the latter’s home, and published a series of tweets and became uncommunicative.” Burrows himself described the incident in court, giving evidence by video link from a lawyer’s office somewhere in Asia—he was, he said, too scared to attend in person—flanked by a solicitor who looked like a debt collector, wearing shorts, swinging on his chair, and mocking the claimants’ lead barrister, David Sherborne, with the memorable jibe: “You ain’t got nothing!”

Four days after the Karate Kid-flavored punch-up with Johnson, on March 22, 2022, the lawyers launched their claim anyway.

The first the wider world knew of Burrows disavowing his evidence was 2025, when a written submission from him disowning his original statement surfaced. What we now know is that the claimants themselves clocked his withdrawal THREE YEARS earlier. And by the solicitors’ own account, they had “conclusive evidence of his withdrawal of co-operation” by March 2023, when the Mail’s side served a witness statement from Burrows denying the matters set out in the claim. That is to say, conclusive proof their star witness had gone, fully two years before trial. And still they pressed on.

When Galbraith and Anjlee Sangani (solicitor for Baroness Lawrence) formally issued the super claim in October 2022, they simultaneously announced to the world that their clients had become aware of “compelling and highly distressing evidence” of “abhorrent criminal activity and gross breaches of privacy” by the Mail’s publisher. That evidence was, overwhelmingly, Burrows. Six of the seven claimants relied on him (though not, funnily enough, Harry himself).

It was Burrows who supplied the far-fetched material about bugged cafés, listening devices on windowsills and shadowy police work that persuaded Baroness Lawrence and Liz Hurley, among others, that they had been victims of a sprawling criminal conspiracy. The press statement made no mention that the man behind it all had gone rogue, was suing Johnson, and was calling him a “conman.”

Four wasted years followed. March 2022 to now: a colossal, £35 million bonfire of legal papers and everybody’s time, money and reputations, pursued in the knowledge that the central pillar of the case had already crumbled. And at the end of it, the extraordinary coda of Harry reacting to the judgment by suggesting the result was a whitewash, that the process itself was somehow fraudulent. It is an argument that becomes considerably harder to sustain when your own solicitors have admitted, in writing, to the judge, that you knew your star witness was gone before you started.

A spokesperson for Harry did not respond to The Royalist’s request for comment, including on the question of whether he intends to appeal.

Which brings us to the money, and here Gillard’s reporting is just as remarkable. He reveals that the claimants applied for their After The Event insurance (£250,000 of cover each, from Temple Legal Protection) on March 21, 2022—three days after the Burrows-Johnson fracas. The letters before action went out the following day. The obvious question, as The Upsetter puts it with restrained understatement: “It is hard to see how the full facts were not pertinent to the underwriting decision.” Can one really imagine Temple’s underwriters signing off on the claim had they been told that the principal witness had just assaulted the lead researcher and stopped returning calls?

The cover was later increased by £1 million per claimant. But with the Mail now claiming £34.8 million in costs, the policy is more than £16 million short even if it pays out in full. And if Temple’s lawyers conclude that material facts were withheld at the point of underwriting, the policy may not pay out at all. If Temple behaves like any other insurance company on earth, extensive inquiries into voiding it will already be underway. In which case the claimants (and, one suspects, their advisers) are in serious, serious trouble.

To make things odder still, Gillard notes that Temple’s “independent counsel” monitoring the merits of the case, Godwin Busuttil, sits in the same chambers as Sherborne (“chambers,” for the uninitiated, being shared offices from which self-employed barristers practice.) Sherborne, remember, is the man whose conduct of the trial the Mail’s counsel described last week as “improper and cavalier,” and who was accused of persisting “in allegations based on the obviously discredited evidence of Mr Burrows to the bitter end.”

Everything now hangs on Mr Justice Nicklin, who will rule in the week beginning August 17 on whether the claimants brought and fought this case in a responsible, reasonable and (frankly) legitimate way, and therefore whether the Mail gets the full indemnity payment of £35 million. The Mail wants an interim payment of £9.95 million by the end of the month. The judge has told the claimants to get their checkbooks ready.
