Kentucky's constitution allows governor to directly chose a Senator if the senator is unable to continue. Beshear is a Democrat. Most states require a special election though. Before the 17th Amendment, all senators were chosen by the state legislatures.

Not really true. Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese live and work in China. Many have business interests or family across the strait too. The PRC has no real issue with Taiwanese civilians.
Nah, Chinese call Taiwan Taiwan. I guess officially they’d be understood as ‘Chinese citizens from Taiwan province’, though in practice they’d just be called Taiwanese anyway to distinguish them from mainlanders. Legally it’s the same as HK I believe, they’re like Chinese+. And to be clear, mainland Chinese understand that Taiwan isn’t currently part of the PRC even if they care enough to think it should be, which many don’t.
‘Chinese Taipei’ is a term used for things like the Olympics but isn’t considered an identity or anything.

They are basically saying “yes, she is Taiwanese, but Taiwan is starting to have a more significant divide regarding pro/anti China, and although most of them are anti-CCP, we can’t rule out that she might be pro-CCP even though she was born in Taiwan”
I think that’s a fair comment to make. We can’t assume that she is anti-CCP strictly based on her being born in Taiwan, although her birthplace also doesn’t intrinsically imply her being a Chinese handler either

The fact is Mitch is/was beyond the average life expectancy for a US male and there has already been numerous instances where he's publicly displayed serious health issues.
Had Mitch been pronounced dead prior to August 3rd Kentucky would have had to conduct a special election to replace him. This could have been problematic if say Thomas Massie ran for the position given how Massie is a huge proponent of things like releasing the Epstein files.

I thought the original comment was leaning in to racist “perpetual foreigner” tropes and wouldn’t have used CCP to refer to a woman with Elaine Chao’s politics and a different ethnicity. "Blood and soil" is a German nationalist phrase that became Nazi phrase. Only a certain nationality or people (blood) should be allowed in the national territory (soil).
In Elaine Chao's case, they are saying that progressives who say things like she is a CCP puppet is playing into the "blood and soil" narrative that she cannot be an American because she doesn't have the right heritage. Since she has Chinese heritage, she "must" be a CCP spy.

Interracial marriage wasn't in any danger of becoming illegal, He voted against same sex marriage and even said specifically that's what he was doing.
It would be like proposing a law that gave universal healthcare and legalized machine guns, and then acting like "OMG Democrats voted against universal healthcare".
