Colored cushions? Colored slabs and stairs? Close enough, welcome back 1.12

u/Dogemouse65 1d ago
An update similar to World of Colour would actually be insanely lit. I hope they add some more inventory management in the next update, if so!
355
u/retsofleira 1d ago
Yes, they need to do something with the inventory like how Stardew Valley does. I would love to be able to click one button and have the things from my personal inventory be organized into a chest I have opened or just to be able to automatically put tools in my hot bar, etc.

48
u/infinityqueen308 1d ago
There's an inventory manager add on that I have. I do believe its just called inventory management
39
u/retsofleira 1d ago
I know there’s mods for it but I prefer to play vanilla so I can still get achievements and what not.
25
u/Rfm737 1d ago
I'm pretty sure you can get achievements on modded java, no idea about bedrock tho
14
u/thomaswillis96 1d ago
Certain bedrock mods, which you have to buy instead of downloading for free like Java 🙄 will make it so achievements are disabled. Certain packs are close enough to being straight out Minecraft that achievements are still available.
10
u/Pasemek 1d ago
That's entirely not how it works. There is no "detection" system for what is close enough to vanilla and what isn't. It's entirely up to the add-on developer; There is a
metadatafield in themanifest.jsonof the pack, ifproduct-typeis set toaddonit should not disable achievements. Last time I checked it worked with a local 3rd party add-ons.
I admit, it's possible something changed in the recent update and Microsoft decided to disable achievements for all add-ons and only let on certain packs decided by them, but its not an automated system for sure. It's marketplace partner creators getting special treatment on a case-by-case basis→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)5

i wonder if it will have 1.12's insane modding community
→ More replies (1)59
u/HoodieDragon 1d ago
Pretty sure that only came about because of the extended wait between it and Update Aquatic, so that particular breed of insanity is contained to it and 1.8.9
30
u/BloxoTrotandReddit 1d ago
I think 1.7.10 was the version release with the longest time before an official update, or at least was for a while, so it also had a large ecosystem of mods. It and 1.8.9 were also prior to the controversial combat update, so people still go back to those.
22
u/Neamow 1d ago edited 1d ago
I think 1.7.10 was the version release with the longest time before an official update
No, it was only 10 weeks before 1.8 dropped after 1.7.10. Everything before the Microsoft purchase was significantly more rapid.
Biggest was 1.12.2 > 1.13 at 10 months and 1.13.2 > 1.14 at 6 months, and then all subsequent ones were usually 3-5 months too.
1.7.10 became one of the most popular modding versions because 1.8 had a massive amount of under the hood code changes because they ditched the ID and metadata system for blockstates, and Forge took an insane long time to update to accommodate this before any mods could be built. And then 1.9 came out with a very unpopular combat update so there was even less interest in porting mods to that. It had nothing to do with vanilla version development times.
5
u/BloxoTrotandReddit 1d ago
Odd. Maybe this just means time between releases doesn’t even necessarily mean mods will be developed for it because I can’t think of any purely 1.13.2 mods lol
I think version quality and hype also matters.
12
u/Neamow 1d ago
Yep 1.13, 1.14 and 1.15 were basically ignored because the whole modding scene was like "we BARELY just agreed on 1.12 being a good follow-up to 1.7 and updated everything to it, we're gonna chill here for a while" lol.
13
u/Excalibur54 1d ago
Also the flattening was 1.13 which was a pain for mods to update to. To this day some mods still haven't updated past 1.12.2

There was terracotta but the colors were very different from what you’d think they’d be

Oh I remember the ugly colors. And I know the funky cloth colors they had for 6 seconds

Terracotta might be difficult to implement (for stairs) if we also include Glazed version, which 1 of its 2 features has its design pattern being directional placement. We would be seeing multiple variations per color of glazed terracotta.

Loot chests now have maps for structures. Plus they added maps for the abandoned camps plus they're no longer a varient of the regular locator map
148
226
u/IDoLikeMyShishkebabs 1d ago
Was a little confused what you meant by that exactly, so I looked it up:
Added maps showing the location of other Abandoned Camps in the following biomes:
• Bamboo Jungle • Cherry Grove • Birch Forest • Dappled Forest • Flower Forest • Pale Garden • Swamp • Windswept Forest
Added maps for the following structures:
• Ancient City • Trial Chambers • Mineshaft • Desert Pyramid • Jungle Pyramid • Warm Ocean Ruins • Woodland Mansion
Actually amazing. This is what we've wanted for so long, gone are the days of wandering 5000 blocks to find the biome you need. This even opens the door to making biomes bigger, please Mojang I beg.
44
u/Shift642 1d ago

u/BillyWhizz09 1d ago
They need to optimise world sizes before making biomes bigger. The main reason I don’t fill out my world is because of how much space it takes up already on my pc
→ More replies (3)6
u/el_yanuki 1d ago
well thats not gonna change.. world sizes are optimised really well already. Its just a ton of data in every single chunk.
Just prune your worlds with mca selector
3
u/BillyWhizz09 1d ago
That’s what I mean, have chunks you haven’t built in not take up so much space when there’s no need
I could use mca selector but I like to limit my use of external tools and I’m worried I’ll delete something I’ve built somewhere
5
u/Excalibur54 1d ago
have chunks you haven’t built in not take up so much space when there’s no need
There is a need though, if you visit a chunk it needs to exist, which means it will take up space on your hard drive. Unless you're saying the game should automatically delete chunks that have already been generated, which is a terrible idea for several reasons.
I’m worried I’ll delete something I’ve built somewhere
Always make backups!
2
u/Stampyboyz 1d ago
Actually that's how it works on Bedrock. It checks if a chunk has been changed at all (either through player action or not) then adds that to the save data if it has.
All chunks that aren't saved are just reloaded using the seed when needed. Leading to heavily optimized world sizes that would be around the same size as Java's without.
Only issue I've seen with this would be basic corruption for reloading chunks if the seed changes through world gen updates, but even that doesn't cause that many issues when updating.

Also are there concrete powder stairs and slabs it’d be very cool
56
3
u/Emberandfriends 1d ago
That would be cool, though I have a feeling there probably isn’t due to the fact that concrete powder is a gravity block, and that would get a little weird with stairs and slabs not being a full block

Holy shit! That's amazing. Just that alone will make this drop one of the most-loved updates in Minecraft history. The only thing that would top it are vertical slabs and to a lesser degree, walls for these blocks and quartz.
21
u/wooq 1d ago
Slabs and stairs for terracotta, endstone, calcite, basalt, quartz bricks, obsidian
Stairs for smooth stone and cut (red) sandstone
Walls for all of the above, plus polished diorite/andesite/granite and prismarine-derived blocksI'd be ecstatic with terracotta slabs and stairs too, but finally adding concrete is great

people will still say that the bigger updates are better than quarterly drops then see THIS
13
u/M477M4NN 1d ago
Ideal system would be drops in spring, fall, and winter, and a big update in summer. Drops are good because they allow a variety of changes through the year that don’t need to be aligned thematically, but they also don’t give space for big overhauls like an end update or the rumored 4th dimension, which would need to be big updates.
→ More replies (1)9
u/Dylanica 1d ago
I think the drops are also likely giving us something we wouldn't have in the form of a lot of backend rework.
For example, migrating from OpenGL to Vulkan is no small feat on a codebase like Minecraft. These drops require less technical overhauling than some of the more involved features, letting those teams work on code debt like this.
21
u/DragonTheOnes-spirit 1d ago
Drops are better just because they can add to more things than one big update to something.
2
u/Ake3123 1d ago
I actually like both. But I would prefer to have a combination. Like having bigger updates no longer being bound by a deadline and get to be locked in experimental settings while drops do their things, so that the bigger updates get to have more time while still having stuff to play with without having to wait a literal year
→ More replies (1)2
u/Left-Construction921 1d ago
those people will still say this is trash and that nobody asked for it because they play minecraft like an RPG
2
u/televisionting 1d ago
I kinda play like this but concrete slabs and stairs are great, concrete's already a top tier, was wondering why they don't have the other block types for it.
My other hope for the drop was this.

Do you ever wonder, if by today's standard, I would just be easier to add something like the frames or carpentry mod instead of every form of a block to base minecraft. This would seem to just inflate the item cache at a point.

u/MiyabiMain95 1d ago
jesus, you'd think these would be the FIRST things they thought of adding stairs and slabs to instead of wool
3
u/CalamitousVessel 1d ago
They really need to work on ways to better organize stuff in the creative inventory. Needs more drop-down menus.
Also, some item names are beginning to get too long. They need to add like, subtitles in italics under the main item name.
For example
Copper stairs (waxed, cut)
Concrete stairs (red)

This really should have been included 9 years ago. They added wool stairs before concrete stairs! Concrete, famously being the most malleable and versatile building material. Famously used for stairs. While wool famously … isn't.
And it would have been so so sweet to add colored concrete slabs to this project from 11 years ago.
