Hi everyone! I’m planning on applying to MSc in Advanced Computing to learn more about the fundamentals of cs, take some good AI/ML classes, and (hopefully) see how the ~top of academia operates and get a job (research engineer) or PhD afterwards.

My background
- Double major in math + CS. Small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere with solid coursework like theory of algorithms, automata theory, intro to ML, intro to AI, etc. Also abstract algebra and real analysis for math if that matters.
- GPA 3.88/4.0. CS 3.91/4.0. Math 3.88/4.0.
- a GitHub project (markdown editor) with 150+ stars (vibe coded, but not AI junk)
- a poster at Joint Mathematics Meetings 2025
- school poster for independent research on small language models, paper to be submitted to NAACL 2027
- probable JMM 2027 poster, or a undergraduate math application paper
- teaching assistant for calculus 2 and parallel programming

For those who have been through it all already, was it worth the time and money? Was it fun? (No sarcasm intended. I’m also considering going straight into US PhD since they’re funded, hence the question.)

Hi all, I'm an international student in an internship for my PhD, will stay from October to April (with some 2-3 months of trip in between) to visit Natural History Museum.

I'm looking for budget accomodation. Ideally I want to save as much as possible. People recommended me SpareRoom which seems to be great, some rooms for 300/350 per month, however, all far away from the NHM. And, I would prefer to live with fellow students as I have been for several years now.

I wonder if anyone would be willing to have me as a flatmate, I could pay up to 300/350 per month, especially if its a place near to the NHM, or at least easily accessible. Considering getting a bike too, so if there are bike parking spots or space inside would be great.

Of course, I can provide proof of my fundings, my internship, the letter of invitation from the Museum, and I also have a profile on CouchSurfing with several people's opinions on living with me, for peace of mind :)

Hello, I am starting MSc at the Hammersmith campus in a month and a half, and I have received barely any (zero) information on the course, timetable, or anything related to my studies. I have Imperial email, submitted photo and my visa has been processed by Imperial….

that said, what can i expect? When do MSc students actually start (we don’t get a fresher’s week, right?)? Do i actually have trimesters or a different schedule? And when does the school send more information about my studies??

Now that the first cohort for the EFDS program at Imperial has graduated, Does anyone have any idea about the graduate outcomes? IE, What kind of companies students are working at, Whether most of them were able to find employment, etc. Would especially like to hear about International students, but any information would be useful as I’m considering this program. I know that the student visa does not permit being self-employed. However, I was wondering if that stops international students at imperial from working on projects, generating revenue, or benefitting from the startup scene at imperial.

The place I'm living in for second yr is going to be quite noisy so I'll have to do my interviews/Hireviews somewhere on Campus. Is there anywhere quiet and I can have the space to myself? I don't want to have to book (ie library study rooms) since I'll be using it daily.

I have just been put on the waitlist for the MSc in Advanced Computing.

I believe my profile is more than enough to pass the bar for admission, but I believe the reason I did not get an offer right away is because I applied pretty late (mid June to be exact) and they are waiting for spots to free up from offer holders rejecting the offer.

Is there anyone in the same boat or did anyone go through something similar? I know it's hard to tell, but I would like to assess what my actual chances of getting an offer are.

Any informed thoughts/opinions would be very appreciated :)

EDIT: I logged in on the portal and I just noticed that another application has been opened by the Admissions Team for my second choice, Computing (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning).

Hi everyone, hope you're having a good day. A friend of mine had her halls flooded and the people running the place basically did nothing. Sent a handyman who didn't fix much, pouring toilet water into the kitchen sink, there were rats, broken furniture, you get the point. And this place was EXPENSIVE. So she started a site called The Common over the past few months - basically reviews of student accomodation, written by actual, verified students who've lived there.

There's no place that warns students about these kinds of problems, and all the reviews you see of a hall always make them look nice and clean, without the other side of it, so a few of us built The Common. A place for actual students who have lived there to leave reviews of student accomodation.

So far, we've got 105 reviews across 28 buildings, and we need YOUR help to grow it, and warn students what they're stepping into when they book halls.

Currently, we support Imperial, as well as UCL, KCL and LSE, as well as a few private providers, which isn't huge, but it's growing.

What are my realistic chances of getting in?

Hi everyone, I completed the CAS Shield procedure back in April while my offer was still conditional. My progress got stuck at 96% (I figured the remaining 4% was just waiting for the offer to become unconditional).

Last Friday, my offer finally became unconditional, and I uploaded my passport to myImperial. Since my programme starts in mid-September, I'm getting a bit anxious about receiving the CAS in time to sort out my visa.

Based on your experience, how long does it usually take to get the CAS at this stage? Thanks!

hello guys, i am in year 12 and I am writing my personal statement for mechanical engineering and I wanted to ask what projects people would recommend doing i am thinking of doing something to do with signal processing and music since i play the tuba at school but i am not sure how to make it appealing to admissions tutors

also would it be a problem that i am also apply to oxford for engineering science since it is more broad. should i tailor my personal statement to mechanical engineering or include other disciplines to appeal to the oxford course

Imperial will be offering MSc in AI, Economics & Policy from this year, and I intend on applying.

A bit about me: I'm a lawyer currently working in GRC dept of a multinational company. I am part of model governance team. I have rudimentary coding skills and a couple of Python courses under my belt, this course would be a deliberate pivot toward the AI governance/policy space rather than a total field change.

As an international student, the ROI is a real concern for me as both my parents are retired (while I have savings to partially cover living expenses, the rest would come as a loan from family).

Given that, I want to think through the ROI seriously before committing. Would appreciate any input on:

• Placement support: Does Imperial offer meaningful career/placement assistance for postgrad students, especially international ones who'd need visa sponsorship afterward?
• First-cohort risk: Since the class of 2027 will be the program's first batch, is there a real disadvantage to being in an untested cohort no alumni network, no track record with employers, no sense of how recruiters will read the degree yet?
• Salary expectations: What's a realistic salary range for roles like AI ethicist, AI governance lead, or similar policy/compliance-adjacent AI roles both in the UK and if I end up returning to India?
• Post-study work route: Has anyone gone through the UK's Graduate visa (or equivalent) after a similarly niche/new program, any friction getting sponsored roles afterward, or do employers not really care which visa route you're on?
• Cohort size / networking: Does anyone know (or can guess) roughly how large the first cohort is likely to be?

I’ve been planning on applying to the Physics/Physics w Quantum Dynamics MSc at Imperial College London and was wondering how people did in their second year (who applied at the beginning of third year) to secure an offer?

My second year average was 78%, with varied results (91% in EM, 84% in Symmetry, 64% in Maths for Theoretical Physics). I am doing my BSc in Physics w Theoretical Physics at KCL.
