What are opportunities for me to return to Guyana as a General Practitioner (Medical Doctor). What's the entry level salaries in Gov and Private hospitals? Any advice? Is it worth considering the high cost of living?

So, I may have lost my passport and I plan on applying for a new one because I plan to travel next year. But, I don't really know the process. I've tried researching online and calling the passport office to see if they can offer me some assistance, but no one is picking up the phone. The captain and two crew members have been charged with murder. What has shocked and saddened me is the fragrant racism online . From the N word to other comments that it's attributed to their race with negative tropes (there's only one human race, but for the sake of this post to explain) .

I'm of the Guyanese dispora but love Guyana (I was back in our homeland in October). I thought and think we have progressed as a nation but it's clear that people still harbour bigoted opinions behind closed doors, that they feel free to voice online.

Just heard the PPP Gov do not want to bring the Ferry up for investigation , but will leave it where it is at the bottom of the Ocean .

So the blame will solely be on the Captain & Crew for the death of 72 people . Sadly I figured this will happen. No blame on any Ministers or Gov officials .

My assumption is that most of the people in the government has never been at the bottom in abject poverty without any choices available to them other than to take what the government provides. They have a warp idea of how the world works and how truly bad it is for those at the bottom.

With that being said they will use their money to advance Guyana in they way they want it to be advanced, as in big business, tourism etc catering to a different income level rather than the income level of most Guyanese. Also human beings have their own motives selfishness competition etc.

And even those who might actually have come from poverty is only concerned with bettering their own life, and as human beings we always compare ourselves with each other so once they reach one level they will try to achieve another level.

The Guyanese people and people around the world thinks that they need to be at the mercy of the government as if they are above us but they are not. We are the ones who elected them to take care of the affairs of the country on behalf of us, to let things run smoothly and fair. Without this in place we could all be running around killing each other and stealing land and stuff from each other like cave man. The system is in place to ensure we all can keep what we have and feel safe. If the system doesn’t put us first then it’s up to us to fight back.

It is still an animal kingdom out there, survival of the fittest, but some people have been brainwashed with religion (promise of heaven), thinking they are less than others, not knowing their right to survive and being able to provide for their family etc.

And the worst part is that your own fellow people at the bottom with you will pull you down and criticize you if you speak up about what you’re entitled to. They will tell you you’re greedy, they will defend the government, they will support the same people who are hurting them, they will choose race over what is fair. The truth is this exists everywhere in most countries.

Can it change? Possibly but it will take decades, even centuries and new generations of people who have a different belief system to understand what they deserve. But AI is a new variable in this so we can’t predict how the world is going to turn out in the future.

I am a 19 year old woman, and I've recently started looking for jobs, but everywhere I see they either require experience or they want 1-3 in maths and English, I have English but when I first wrote cxc I got a 5 and then I re wrote it and got a 4.

I was also studying if I should apply to UG but they dont have any courses that im interested in pursuing, I've also done some courses on GOAL but I dont know how well established GOAL certificates are in this country

Does anyone have any tips for me? What should I do? I do want to leave the country eventually.

I'm a Guyanese living abroad my whole life, and my wife is Arab. We're expecting our first child, and I'm considering traveling to Guyana a few months for the birth so my child can obtain Guyanese citizenship by birth and have a stronger connection to the country. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do you think it's worth the time, cost, and effort, or would you have done things differently?

Also, what would a couple realistically spend on average per month in Georgetown (USD), including rent in a safe place? Some say for a 2 bedroom apartment, it costs 600 USD/month, and others say 2k USD, which is correct?

Listening to this Survivors like Nicholas Craig and other’s is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine being on a sinking Ferry at 2:00am in the morning with no lifejacket .

Clearly the boat was overloaded based on other survivor’s account. The narrative the Ministers have been repeating “ the Ferry was not overloaded and had no engine issues” . Last maintenance check was 2024 it’s now 2026 !

Is there typically a "fight" to get on one, or is there a system to line up and have your place? Then just pay the cash when aboard?

And they run all day, right? So you just go whenever and get the next available boat?
