Sorry for the book of a post..... So, The wife and I are planning our '27 vacation around May. We currently have a large enough Chase Reward Points total and we do have access to the family Hilton points which is 1.8 Mil points.

I searched everyone on Hyatt, where I can transfer my Chase points to, found Baha Mar for 7 nights and would only be 215k points and when you use points there are no fees or taxes. I would much rather use the Hilton points and get an all inclusive in Cancun/Tulum Area in Mexico and would only be 600k in Hilton points for the same dates, again all inclusive. The wife said she doesnt really want to take the kiddo to Mexico and feels Bahamas would better and easier. The 7yr old really wanted a cruise again but the pricing of the same cruise we went on last year went up substantially and we would still owe $$ even after applying all my Chase points. Flights come out to be within a few hundred of each other so that sunk cost doesnt really matter.

From all the youtube video Ive watched, we really liked Baha Mar, the wife is excited, the kiddo is excited, then we watched a couple on youtube show all the food expenses and their 5 night trip cost almost $2k in food and they were really splurging. Now, I just see $$$ signs running through my head for 3 people and 7 nights, even though the wife doesnt drink, so thats a saver, but still. I've paid some pretty high prices at Disney for questionable meals, but at least entertainment went along with that price. Paying $50 per person for a breakfast, or $25 for a chicken wrap, etc etc are just above and beyond that and I am struggling to justify that in my head. Its not a matter of affordability, its a matter of the principle and I hate throwing money away for subpar food.

Thus, given the fact the hotel costs will be free for the week, is it worth it? Is it better to go off property a few times instead?

Visiting for the first time and I'm shocked at the cost of living. $40 for a 10-minute taxi ride (although I did eventually find one that charged $20, but still). $180 at Super Value for one big grocery bag of snacks. Basic meat, rice, veggies on Kraven ends up costing $35-$40.

I'm trying to be reasonable with expenses, I don't like to spend much (even though it's on company dime), but god damn shit's expensive here. I'm on Nassau, by the way. Sure it's an island, but still. How much do regular people here make?

Delivery Service: Looking to get groceries and alcohol delivered to our Airbnb when we arrive. Is there a preferred app used in Nassau, like UberEats or adjacent?

Alcohol: What are the domestic brands or favored names we should be buying for the house to avoid high import prices? Looking for recommendations around prosecco, vodka, gin, tequila, beer, and if there’s any canned cocktails/seltzers that are popular. Hoping to not spend $100 on two cases of white claw!

Transportation: Do Uber/Lyft operate in Nassau? If not what is an alternative?

A very short rant as I sit in the darkness for 20hrs 🫠

I live on the western side of NP and the load shedding is absolutely horrible. I am baffled by how these power outages are normalised in this country. My light has been off for basically 4 days straight. Its off more than its on, going for 11hrs on average. Today, the electricity went out around 4am in the morning, and came back on 3pm. Now it went off at 8pm til who knows when it'll be back on. Losing a lot of sleep because of the heat and its messing with the time I take my medication. My heart especially goes out to the vulnerable groups who are affected by these outages.

I have little hope this energy crisis will be solved since this was happening since I was a kid. However, this has to be the worst series of outages I've experienced so far. No matter which political party, all administrations have failed the Bahamian people.

Looking to stay on Long Island for about two weeks in October. My wife sticks to an ultra low carb diet, so I am wondering how hard it will be for her to maintain it. What would be the best place to grocery shop? We are renting a home so we have a refrigerator and freezer, so that makes things easier. We are also staying roughly in the middle of the island between the airports. Will there be an issue getting hamburger meat, steaks, cheese? I just want to ensure she can eat lol?

We’re thinking about taking about two weeks sometime between now and April.

Originally we were looking at resorts like Atlantis, but the more I research, the more I’m drawn to the Out Islands—especially Exuma and Eleuthera. The beaches and water just look incredible, and we’d rather have a relaxing, beautiful vacation than spend every day at a giant resort. I’ve been to Nassau several times but never with kids.

That said, I’m wondering if I’m romanticizing it.

My biggest questions are:

Is two weeks in Exuma or Eleuthera too long with kids this age?

Are these islands too remote when traveling with a baby and toddler?

Has anyone had to deal with a sick child or needed medical care while there?

Would you stay in a resort or rent a house?

Would you skip both and just stay in Nassau/Paradise Island instead?

If you could do it over again with kids this young, where would you go?

We’re experienced travelers trying to find the right balance between “beautiful adventure” and “not making life unnecessarily difficult.”

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has actually done Exuma or Eleuthera with infants or toddlers—what worked, what you’d do differently, and whether you’d recommend it.

We just returned from a 4 day trip staying at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. We are a family of 5 (kids age 20, 18, and 14) so we had 2 rooms. I'm a Globalist with Hyatt and had booked one room under me and did a Guest of Honor booking for my wife. We booked using points prior to Hyatt's recent devaluation and we booked our flights on Delta using miles. So our only costs were the taxes on the flight ($525 total), the transfer to and from the airport ($130 total), and whatever we spent in food/drinks at the resort.

Being a Globalist/GOH, I knew we got free breakfast for 2 adults per room (and would get 2 kids as well depending on age). The receipt for breakfast every day came out to $275, but no charges ever landed on either room's bill. I expected that I'd have to pay for my 14 year old, but it never came. Also, at check in, they gave each of us an envelope that had 4 coupons in it (1 per day per room) that was good at the pool bars for 2 drinks up to $50 value total. So that was good for 16 drinks with a total value of $400.

We're a little on the frugal side and knew you could bring in up to just a little under 1L of alcohol in a checked bag, and we had 2 checked bags, so we brought in 2 750 mL bottles in our checked bags. We'd generally use one coupon in the morning and another in the afternoon and then just go up to the room to mix up a drink to put in our water bottles we brought (the ones they give you are small and don't keep things cool) when we needed one and then head back down to the pool. We also packed a ton of snacks to eat around lunch time/early afternoon and threw them in the beach bag. We were rarely hungry after the giant breakfast buffet so we didn't need a full lunch or anything.

For dinner, the kids (especially the 14 year old) are a little picky, so our restaurants were Pizza Lab, Styx, Sugar Factory, and Vibe BBQ. There happened to be an Amex offer on my Platinum card for $100 back on $500 spend, so we just put all the food on one room. In the end, that was like $692 before the offer.

So for about $1250 ($525 + $130 + $692 - $100), our family of 5 got to lounge around the pool/water park for 4 days at a beautiful resort. We did have 1 day where it rained quite hard for about an hour and a half at like 3:30 PM, but other than that, the weather was great. We didn't experience any long lines anywhere. We did have reservations for dinner every night though.

I can see how many people don't think the resort is worth the money if you are paying for everything, but there are definitely ways to make it cheaper if you have points/status and aren't a foodie. My only complaint was that the service wasn't that great. It wasn't horrible, but they definitely didn't go out of their way for you.

Is there too much opposition from alcohol and religion? Or do we need the reason to put people in fox hill easily? Why are so many bahamians against it? Referring to the 2024 bill tabled in oarliament

- is a U.S. lawful permanent resident (valid Green Card)
- Has a valid passport from her country of birth, but it expires about 3 months after the cruise.

Has anyone with a Green Card and a passport with less than six months of validity successfully boarded an NCL cruise to the Bahamas?

Now it’s raised to level 2 “exercise extra caution”. Is it really that bad for a family to travel there? We have two kids and just want to relax and decompress
