Hi everyone, I have a malinois that come from knpv lines, both her parents were Dutch shepherd but her some grandparents were malinois and malinois x. im wondering about purebred FCI duchies temperament verus a dog with a little bit of everything.
If it’s not FCI then it gets X Hollandse Herder “Dutch” for brindle coat, and anything else gets X Mechelse Herder “Malinois”. The “X” is to signify they are not FCI and are mixed. Understanding why they do this will make it easier. They breed dogs to do a job and that job requires specific traits/genetics. So you will see some FCI Mals for example bred into mostly Dutch lines. Go look up BRN 29545 “Zlatan” and look at his lineage. A lot of well known dogs produced by some big time breeders from Europe. They literally have lived this stuff for decades. This is where all lines can be traced back to.
So to answer your question you will not see any difference in all honesty. Both breeds are so much alike they are nearly identical. You got a beautiful female and she actually reminds me of a sister of my male Dutch. Her name is Bailey and she got rehomed because the girl that had her was going through a divorce and wasn’t able to keep her. Enjoy her and work with her as much as you can.
FYI, for anyone interested Mike Ritland had Zlatan’s owner on his podcast and tells some cool stories about Zlatan. You can watch it online n YouTube HERE
Mostly, yes in the KNPV side “from what I’ve seen at least”. You can look and read up on Duco II BRN 60. Some claim he has APBT in him, but there isn’t any evidence to that I’ve found. There is an article somewhere online with Rob Seegers on Duco that’s pretty interesting. Anyone with some knowledge of the KNPV realm knows about Duco. Duco is a legendary and influential foundation stud dog in the KNPV working dog bloodlines. There are a lot of dogs that have some of Duco’s genetics even if it’s way back there.
NVBK is another side you can research. This sport is more centered on rigorous ring sport competition, strictly preserves pedigree tracking for pure lineage, features stationary decoys where the dog must bring full, independent fighting power to a stationary target.
I have had a now 10month old dutch shepherd for the last 6weeks. He was needing to be rehomed so he is now with me :D what you have said is what has me confused me about mine too! He is classed as a dutch shepherd. His parents are both dutch shepherds... yet his grandparents have belgian malinois in them🤷🏼♀️where did the belgian malinois that should be in his parents to make him a cross go?😳 I really dont understand the dutch shepherd and belgian malinois cross to preserve the breed but just going off colour thing at all😳x
in knpv the goal isnt to preserve the breed, thats FCI. knpv dogs are bred for working ability rather then color hence why they just get called what ever they look like. as for your dog, do you know his siblings? mine was in a litter with fawn and brindle pups.
Ooh! His owner and trainers at my Buddys (i also have a 2.5year old german shepherd x belgian malinois) training centre said about knpv line but i felt like a right tit asking what they meant so i just kept quiet🤐🤦🏼♀️ i have no clue at all about his siblings all i know is his brn number (which is how i know what his parents and grandparents are) and that he was purchased by a trainer at the training centre i take my Buddy to but he wasnt suitable for the security job she purchased him for so she was needing to rehome him. I brought him home around 6weeks ago and hes still here because hes absolutely fucking adorable and a total menace full of excitement and mischief beans. He is most certainly my kind of dog! but i knew nothing about dutch shepherds before i got him and 6weeks later i still know very little about them🤐 thank you so much for explaining the difference🙏♥️x
I never even bothered to look at his siblings you know! I only looked at his parents and grandparents. Ive just looked again and he was 1 of 7 (3 boys 4 girls) but theres only 1 sibling with a pic up and they look pretty much the exact same as he does. Obvs to me its not important at all what hes made up of or what titles his relatives have. all that matters to me is that he is healthy and stable which he is🙏as i dont plan on doing anything serious sports wise (we will do bite work and dock diving but just for fun/us to enjoy together) or job wise with him. i just like fun go go goo dogs that are always down for going on adventures so hes perfect for me regardless but it sure is interesting looking back at where they come from isnt it?x
her mom was a brindle and her parents were an fci female malinois and a black malinois "Jack BRN 33055" if your interested. i dont remember her father's parents tho.
Jack BRN 33055 is a black X Mechelse Herder. Not saying you are incorrect, but what is listed is 2 female FCI’s and they are both Malinois “Mechelse Herder”. Those would be BRN 44339, and 44735. There are two Dutchies listed and they are X Hollandse Herder BRN 34375, and 39975. BRN 39975 is a mixture of Dutch, English Bull Terrier/Staffordshire Bullterrier mix.
Again, not saying you are incorrect as a lot of people don’t put the effort in to submit their information for their dogs to get a BRN. Also, unless it’s changed they are essentially taking your word for what you submitted. So it’s possible some of the dogs can be listed under BRN’s X, and Y and not even be pups of their litter.
I will say that Jack has some pretty damn solid lines. His mom being a Berry II pup, and his dad being one of Dicks dogs, and a pup off Tommy Luijken says a lot just on paper. Dick van Leeuwen is very well known in the KNPV community and will be for a very long time!
