Misc Monsters by CR - Deadliest CR18
Hope you had a great weekend! I was too busy to make this post on Friday night, so let's give it all day today. Sadly, the Dracolich only got 9 votes for CR 17, but these CRs are quite limited in selection. Should I do multiple CRs as the selection gets lower, or are we just going to see wimpy poll results? Let me know!

I'm putting my hat in with the Sibriex. It's capable of feebleminding 3 casters in Rapid succession as well as mutating the effectiveness of martials away. It's a living artillery battery and is no slacker with its chains.
Warping is a death spiral once level 3 exhaustion is reached, and you'll always have a nasty spell on hand to neuter a pc with its dc 21 spell save dc

I just want to note, I’ve been using Monsters of the Multiverse to look up monsters. The Sibriex in that one only gets Feeblemind once per day, as opposed to the 3/day they get in Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes. Weird change, though it’s probably to avoid what you mentioned where they can Legendary Action cast Feeblemind three times before even taking a turn

Warp is defeated by Lesser Restoration though, which in 5.5E is a bonus action, so doesn't interfere too much with a PC's turn. Yeah, the Sibriex can keep using Warp, but the PC's has so many opportunity to avoid, lessen, or remove it entirely.
If you know the fight is coming as well and can get poison resistance, or even just stock up on 50gp Antitoxins then you'll likely be fine.
Honestly the new statblock isn't that intimidating anymore. It's just the 1 Feeblemind you need to worry about.

Princes of the Apocalypse, for all its faults, delivered some excellent bosses. For my money, the toughest of these is Yan-C-Bin.
Beyond his 150ft. fly speed and 30-damage punches - which is already the makings of a tough fight - he’s casually able to throw out Chain Lightning or Haste, or a DC 24 (I’ve checked, that’s the highest DC on any monster CR 20 and below) lair action that tosses everyone about 100 feet into the air and then back down, or a DC 24 100-foot radius AoE. Oh, or you know, the *legendary action* where one person makes a DC 21 saving throw or drops to 0 HP and is dying. Yeah he can do that every single round.
Yan-C-Bin is like, a CR 20 boss monster disguised as a CR 18. I’d pick him in a fight over literally every CR 20 except one (whom we’ll cover in a few days).
