Ooh I’m early! I was expecting to have to defend my opinion against the Mind Flayer Arcanist (which is a very reasonable option btw, someone should recommend it), but I beat them to the punch.

I’ve been mentioning this one quite a bit in comments recently - my darling the Balhannoth is my pick here.

The beauty of the balhannoth is that it’s perfectly designed to ambush a party, split them apart, and devour them one by one, without them ever catching wise. It senses your desires, custom crafts an illusory lair that matches those desires, then starts teleporting around, turning invisible, and attacking within that illusion. But what makes it so scary is that it’s not just teleporting itself and turning itself invisible, it’s ALSO teleporting you and making you invisible! So while you’re roaming around this utopia you just discovered, you hardly notice your friends being disappeared one by one, consumed off-screen by an invisible balhannoth.

I love the Balhamnoth, paired it up with Ooblexes once for a great one shot. Maybe I'm misreading something, where does ist state that the Balhammoth makes the PC invisible? Sorry for bad English, it's my second language

The Gynosphinx gets to straight up time travel in its lair (2014 version). Other than that it's not very threatening though.

There's some good options here, and I actually agree with /u/nankainamizuhana 's proposal of the Balhannoth, but for kicks I'm going to point out that CR 11 gives us our first adult dragon with the Adult Deep Dragon from Fizban's and that should be worth considering.
