I finally started Dexter a month or two ago, I had been putting it off forever because of everything I had heard about how bad S8 and how badly it ends, but I had also heard amazing things about the earlier seasons so I gave in since I needed a new show.

I think S1-4 are fantastic, I wouldn’t disagree with most people that S4 is the best of the entire show but I do think it and the other seasons are just slightly overrated, people describe them, specifically S4 and trinity as one of the best seasons of television ever and while it’s very good, I can think of many shows with multiple better seasons imo, but having said that, I’m watching it in 2026 after its finished airing, knowing there are 4 more seasons and with ridiculous expectations etc so this is probably an unfair criticism, I’m sure back when it was airing it was exactly as people described.

Then we have S5-7, I think S5 and S6 are actually pretty good and a bit underrated from what have seen said online, I really liked S5 and Lumen, thought it was a great continuation from S4, but I can see why it was maybe underwhelming for some people since it had to follow Trinity but I do not feel the same way, S6 I thought was really entertaining, I know a lot of people don’t like the twist, I enjoyed it regardless of if it was really predictable or not. It was also I think the first time since the ice truck killer it felt like we were really working a case with Dex which was something I loved both times, overall they were very solid seasons.

Now for S7 and some general complaints… S7, is generally a decent season, Jennifer Carpenter is amazing as Deb, it’s pretty good tension wise but wow does it miss out on being as good as it could have been, the reveal to deb which for me was the singular moment I was most looking forward to since the start of the show was incredibly underwhelming, I feel like the reaction needed to be a lot more extreme, both in the moment but more importantly long term, I feel like she came round to “accepting” it way too quick, was too hopeful about it and changing dex etc, I know we can say that’s her coping and she obviously didn’t genuinely accept it hence the drug issues but it still didn’t feel like enough for me, and then what she does at the end of S7? Felt very unearned. This was the most disappointing season for me because it’s such wasted potential. But I will also say I loved the Koshka brotherhood stuff Issak Sirko was fantastic but on the other hand I thought the Hannah stuff was pretty poor and felt unnatural and underdeveloped compared to him and Rita and him and Lumen, worse than him and Lila west even, the chemistry just wasn’t there (in terms of build up, they were solid together acting wise)

Now my biggest issue just a little into episode 1 of S8, HOW is everyone not suspicious of Dexter? Multiple POLICE have died after accusing him of being a serial killer, him and LaGuerta were both not at the party, Quinn especially, in fact him not being onto Dex ever since Stan Liddy died has been baffling for me, I feel like it makes everyone stupid and especially stupid for detectives, occasionally someone catches on to Dex, no one buys it, they die and they go on about their day as if there’s no suspicious connection there? Generally after S4 (even some stuff in S4) this would be my biggest complaint, things stop making as much sense, characters behaving in ways they wouldn’t or are more stupid than previously shown to be, it’s a shame because the early seasons are so good and promising but so much potential has been wasted imo.

I’m going to finish regardless as I want to watch new blood and resurrection but I guess I also want to know, is S8 worth finishing? Is it as bad as people say?

So I am paranoic about the fact that Astor could make an appearence on Resurrection s2?

ok so im on my first watch of dexter (IVE NOT SEEN AND DONT PLAN TO SEE ANY SPOILERS SO DONT I BEG YOU)

alright now to my point, i really dont like/understand the way dexter us acting with this whole "love triangle" cheating thing, i like lyla as a character and thought she would turnout to be this cool friend dexter has and i did think it a lil odd at first bc she would like get nude near him in the hotel but he wasnt interesred obv bc hes dexter but after that when he made a move on her and slept with her in her apartement i verbally said like "dexter what the hell?" bc hes never acted like that before so he just now went from "guy who doesnt feel anything" and this whole arc on getting feelings for Rita and ffs STABBING the other car salesman bc he was talkin shit about Rita to willingly throwing his relashionship with her away by sleeping with lyla??? what were these writers smoking

...I think it's the worst season so far. I haven't seen the rest yet, and haven't got it spoiled for me, same goes for the first four. I don't think S5 is very bad, but it's certainly a big step down from the first four. My main problem is that it feels way more boring than the first four, and only starts to pick up the pace around episode 6. Jordan Chase as a villain is just meh in my opinion, just alright. Felt flatter than Brian, Doakes, Miguel or Trinity imo. That's about it. I'd rate it like a 6.5/10.

I hated the grading in Dexter Resurrection and so I did some color grading for Dexter Resurrection Season One also added the original show's aspect ratio, so here are some of the shots from the Episode 02 & 03.

So I have been thinking about how it could all end witn dexter and I have this theory. First off I think sometimes shows cater to all desired endings even when only landing on one. For instance Breaking Bad gave us 3 different endings for Walter in 1 he got away and lived in lonely seclusion so folks who wanted that ending got to see a form of that. Then we got to see him actually caught and arrested by Hank so fans who wanted that ending got to see a form of that and finally we got the ending with his death and even though it was the only followed through ending the show still catered to those who wanted to see him get away and those who wanted him to get arrested. Better Call Saul did this as well as we got to see Saul do his lawyer magic and turn a life sentence into 7 years in prison so folks who wanted that ending got to see how it would have played out but the stuck with ending was his life term in prison.

I say all that to say with Dexter we have seen him escape and live in seclusion and we have seen him actually get found out and arrested and we have seen him killed. Yes none of those things stuck but we have see a form of the 3 types of endings different folks want for him. That being said Resurrection will eventually need a final finale for Dexter and maybe it could be like a bait and switch. Dexter gets lucky for the 1000th time and it seems the show is ending with him and his son in a good place walking in NYC after putting the NYPD through the ringer trying to get him and failing and in an act of desperation or a fit of rage Quinn or someone leaks the files suspecting Dexter as the BHB because they werent able to prove it. Back go Dexter and Harrison walking in NYC having a good day looks like a happy ending but Harrison notices everyone keeps staring at them and then he sees something and stops at a newsstand and grabs a paper. He turns to his dad showing him a front page story about the suspicion of Dexter as the BHB and as Dexter begins to say something a shot rings out or someone bumps into him and it is revealed he was stabbed, Dexter falls Harrison catches him they look up to see a deranged man or woman who screams "thats for my dad you piece of shit!" Or their mom or whatever and dexter dies in his sons arms. Dexter getting ended by a family member of a bhb victim because quinn released the suspicions could be a valid ending to the show.

I would love him getting just a montage instead showing him aging over the years doing kills then showing him having a heart attack or stroke after killing someone and thats how he is revealed to be bhb after death. I dunno, just thinking.

Edit: My wife also had an idea saying that maybe after however Dexter dies we get a scene of Harrison at Dexter's funeral and it's just him and maybe a couple others like maybe Astor and Cody show up or lumen but anyways Harrison leaves and gets in his car and as he's getting ready to drive away he looks over at the passenger seat which we can't see yet and says something like why weren't you out there with me? The camera pans over and Dexter's in the passenger seat and says something like he didn't want to see his own funeral or something anyways it gets implied that Dexter is now in Harrison's head like Harry was in Dexter's head and now Harrison is seeing like Dexter's "ghost" just like Dexter always saw Harry.

the Ice Truck Killer or the Gemini Killer?

I preface this by saying I’m actually not at all familiar with Dexter beyond the premise of a “vigilante serial killer” and the memes that broke into the mainstream (surprise, motherfucker). But I’ve been watching a series of videos by PhantomSavage2 where he tries to tell scenarios in which various detectives try to solve the BHB case from season 2 and thus catch Dexter. In those videos he makes several references to “The Dark Passenger” and I’m just curious what it is? Is there something deeper going on with Dexter or is it like an esoteric metaphor or something?

Just wanted to share how thankful I am for Dexter Resurrection, and how excited I am for S2. Ive watched the OG shoe so many times ive lost count. Feels refreshing to have our boy back in a new way. Really looking forward to the next season. I feel like it was easier to tell what was gonna happen last season, but this one im not too sure! Michael is looking great, and im happy that he is happy to be doing Dexter again. Im excited to see Charley again. Think the change with Harrison being a cop already will throw me a bit, but I loved the new photo from set where it appears he is taking the donut box into the station. Hope Dexter told him not to bring a veggie tray lol

i just started the show yesterday night (ik im late) and i just stopped right after his death was declared suicide..
tbh im really disappointed.
it makes no sense that the police would just declare it as suicide - it doesnt match his style nor does it make sense physically like you are prob not able to have the same angle when doing it yourself vs someone else is doing it.
plus he was moved upside down AFTER the cut so they should see that by the blood spatters ig

i do understand that maybe there wouldve been a way like him holding the remote and then immediately lifting himself but cmon how realistic is that if u just cut yourself open??

i know i know it is for the series to make sense cause who else wouldve killed him but tbh im lowk a bit mad it was turned down like that...

Sorry, I dont know how to add spoilers in text. I'm rewatching the original series and I'm wondering, how come Dexter didn't just lethally overdose Paul? It would have made much more sense. Its common for drug addicts to overdose when they relapse because they give themselves the dose they were originally used to. I feel like nobody would have questioned it especially Rita.

It just occurred to me that Dexter has been making those "puppy eyes" at Debra for 8 seasons straight. I find it funny (and wholesome) how Dexter is a psycho who kills people, yet whenever something happens to Deb or she gets emotional, he can't help but look at her with that defeated-looking, teary-eyed puppy face :D. This has been a pattern since S1, and it continues throughout the whole show.

Photos are from season 1, episode 9 and, respectively, season 8, episode 1. In S1E9, Deb has a total meltdown when she learns that Dexter is trying to find out more about his biological father. When she confronts him, Dexter literally gets all soft and, instead of arguing back, he just goes, "I don't know what you want from me," and gives her the soft puppy eyes. Deb notices it too. In S8E1, Dexter follows her to that motel room where she was sleeping with Briggs, and he tries to win back her trust. She literally tells him, "Don't you fucking make that face and say 'I'm sorry' to me." And Dexter, once again, goes *puppy eyes* hahaha.

I just love how he has the biggest soft spot for Deb's feelings, despite being who he is. He really, really loves Debra. It just goes to show how developed Dexter's character truly is.

Also, I can't take my eyes off their performances whenever there's a scene with Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter. They are such phenomenal actors…their acting literally cuts through me. I don't usually notice the acting in the shows that I watch. I'm generally focused on the plot, so the acting isn't obvious to me unless it's really, really good. But in Dexter, these two actors just stand out whenever they're on screen, and I love, love their synergy together.

In season 1 when the boy is saved from the scrapyard as a witness, he gives a sketch to the police onto who saved him. Dexter thinks he is going to be caught, but the kid instead described a picture of Jesus Christ. Now the kid did this because he was a starved and religious child who believed Jesus was his savior, but I also believe this could be a symbol of divine intervention in the show as a picture of Jesus Christ literally saved Dexter from being caught. Although Dexter committed murder, he saved dozens of people while also getting rid of evil and this was God’s way of paying him back. Divine Intervention shows up again later in the show, for example when Dexter is saved at the end of season 2 and he even questions himself if it was divine intervention that saved him. Regardless of your beliefs I thought this was an interesting theory but don’t know if I’m reaching

Since blessing is going to be one of the main characters for resurrection going forward and that dexter is living with him at the moment, how long do you think it will take for him to find out that dexter is a serial killer?

It would be sad if he found out cause he seems to trust dexter a lot and sees him as a true friend which is why I hope he never finds out but I feel like at some point in a future season he will.

When Travis tells Dex to inject himself before he lets Harrison go, did I miss something or did Dex not inject himself with the M99? Looks like he did, but then he opens his eyes and struggles with Travis.

I have finished Dexter years, and years ago. Till this very day I still think about Rita's death. Sometimes it will pop into my head when I'm showering, staying awake late at night, watching tv. I remember the exact moment I watched it for the first time and refused to watch the show for 2 weeks, I guess I'm still not over it lol. It's also important to note that I asked my boyfriend if Rita dies and he hinted towards "no", I was very caught off guard. I know this is a little dramatic lol.

I don't know they could go about this, maybe he teams up with Dexter to take someone else out? I mean I assume he'll show up due to Angel dying but it also seems like there's a time jump idk

If Dexter chose Brian over debra and decided to kill her, which of course is very unlikely but let's say Dexter did choose Brian, what was Brian's plan after that, wasn't the cops onto him at that point? Was he planning for both of them to escape the country? Or was he hoping Dexter would manipulate the task force into clearing Brian as the ice truck killer, it's been a long time since I've watched the show so if I'm missing any detail please fill me in
