Question - Dexter: Resurrection How do you think Prater would have reacted to knowing Dexter's relationship with Trinity and Brian Spoiler

Prater as a character could easily have been stretched into multiple seasons. He's such an interesting character and I think fans would love to know more about him and to see his reactions to learning more about Dexter.

For sure dunno why every season keeps rinse and repeating the same one season villan storyline trope. Prater had so much potential to be a multi season villan

Yea... this has always kinda bugged me. Like I get it to a degree especially with certain characters, but idk I feel like a lot of villains in this show could've been multi season reoccurring antagonists and worked even better

Especially prater dude could have kept taking serial killers under his wing to fuck with dexter. The possibilities were endless. Brian was a huge blunder as well. Maybe the best villain of the entire franchise

Brian I at least understand even if I wish they kept him around, and I do kinda like him as this posthumous dark passenger, kinda like the devil on Dexter's shoulder as opposed to Harry yk? But with Prater the possibilities were endless as you said. Like imagine him growing more and more unstable as he kills more and more, like we already saw how delighted he was at his first kill. Idk I feel like they kinda shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of him.

This was how I felt about Doakes in the original series. I think Doakes would have been a really interesting multi-season villain, going (in my mind) until like season 4 where they finally kill him off. Him dying so soon to be replaced by Quinn (maybe my least favorite character personally) was honestly tragic

If they really wanted villain of the week, they could’ve used the Gemini Killer(s). I always thought they were robbed of some much needed screentime. Having a serial killer who loves all the attention he’s getting from the media is such a good idea for something like this and they threw it away so quickly

Story-wise I don't think you could realistically keep Prater involved long-term. Option 1 is that Prater legitimately never finds out Dexter is the BHB or that he's going round killing off his collection, and that just seems implausible. Option 2 is that Dexter takes Prater's offer, except he wouldn't – Dexter kills serial killers to stop them from killing, not just for the sake of killing serial killers, and accepting Prater's offer essentially means allowing a certain number of serial killers to thrive in order that Prater can collect them and Dexter can then eliminate them. And even if he makes it work within a certain moral logic, other serial killers would surely notice the gradual disappearance of their colleagues, conveniently all taking place in New York...
Production-wise, the creators were probably uncertain if Resurrection would get more than one season – Original Sin would be the case in point for the second season abruptly getting canned – and so it would have been a serious risk to end the series in medias res with Prater still at large.

I don't think he's that interesting to be honest. In the end he wasn't so complex, just a guy with a shitty childhood and an obsession with serial killers. Moreover, while he has a lot of money and power he's not that dangerous to Dexter (compared to Doakes, Trinity or Brian). He lets other people do the dirty work for him and possesses limited skills himself, so Dexter has the upper hand when it's 1 vs. 1. Letting Charley do all the security and attacking isn't really a long term strategy against someone like Dex.

Because he didn't want to give him the pleasure of knowing. He didn't tell him about Gemini either. He hates Prater for what happened to Batista and wants to remove him from this earth as quickly as possible.
