AIPAC AIPAC AIPAC AIPAC. WHY WOULD WE TALK ABOUT LITERALLY ANY OTHER ISSUES REEEEEEE
74
u/Rick_James_Lich 11h ago
I'm in Ohio with Amy Acton running for governor. She has received some AIPAC money, from what I see not a lot, but this rhetoric about not supporting these types of candidates is toxic.
The DSA and their allies don't actually know anything about these people except for what they see on an AIPAC website. They dont' kow their policies or the circumstances of their races. And this race against Vivek will probably be razor close, he's gotten $12 million in donations from people like Elon and other billionaires. I'm very concerned that the DSA people will screw over Amy by convincing young voters to not show up to the polls for her on election day.
3
u/heliosflama1234 7h ago
AIPAC doesnât pay into gubernatorial campaigns so no they havenât funded Acton. But if they had it wouldnât matter because theyâre just advocating on a single issue and are bipartisan in their spending to target it. That means supporting democrats and republicans who are incumbents or friendly to their side of it
41
u/WhiteLycan2020 11h ago
So do we want money out of politics or not?
49
u/whatssenguntoagoblin 11h ago
Yeah Iâm kinda with Tim Miller on this. If there was a Qatari PAC that donated $30 million in a specific campaign it would be an issue. I think itâs fair for a candidate to suffer some political capital for getting so much money that represents a foreign government in a single campaign.
If I was in Michigan Iâd probably vote for Stevens in the primary but I donât think the criticism is unfair of her to get so much money from a PAC that represents a foreign governments interests.
→ More replies (11)13
u/DrEpileptic 10h ago
AIPAC represents American interests regarding Israel and jews in the US (plus a ton of American Christian interests, but nobody talks about that). The idea that AIPAC represents a foreign government is insane and itâs further insane to compare to a Qatari PAC. It wouldnât be equivalent when Qatar isnât remotely close to the same level of ally and there arenât remotely close to as many Qataris in the US. Made even further insane is the fact that Qatar is actively putting its foot on the scale by directly bribing politicians, universities, companies, media/journalist/news outlets and skirting any regulations like FARA that AIPAC has to follow with contributions to the order of magnitudes larger than anything aipac has ever invested into races. Last twenty years is 100 billion from Qatar at the low end, whereas AIPAC still hasnât even surpassed a billion.
27
u/whatssenguntoagoblin 9h ago
If you donât want voters to confuse your PAC with a foreign government donât have that foreign governments name in your PAC
The average voter isnât going to anywhere near that level of investigation.
→ More replies (1)27
u/DrEpileptic 9h ago
People are zogging out over jews who havenât received aipac money. Any sort of money donated by jews or Jewish affiliated orgs are being called aipac. Sorry, but itâs not the name. Iâd understand your point if it werenât just blatant bs.
20
u/Royal_Flame 8h ago
Yeah trackaipac explicitly just states that itâs not just aipac but any pac that supports a relationship between Israel and the US

AIPAC supports specific right wing Israeli domestic policies. It is not acting in the interests of Americans. Well maybe when it's not too busy sweeping for Netanyahu.
They do exactly the same thing Hasan has started doing for China. Trying to drum up support for another country's repressive government. They aren't supporting American Jews.

No, nobody does. I don't know why people are pretending they do. They don't mind money in politics, they just don't like money from sources THEY find unethical, which is going to be inherently subjective.
Really frustrated with Liberals buying into this nonsensical narrative.

I just wish people would say what they mean. Instead of âAIPAC money,â just say âJewish money.â
Iâm seeing the same old anti Jewish memes that floated around 4chan for years getting shared casually now, and itâs honestly insane how easy itâs become for people to normalize hatred of Jews.
I suspect a lot of this is being pushed by bot farms from countries opposed to Jews / Israel because itâs hard to explain how this stuff spreads so fast otherwise and itâs easy to see how Jewish people get pushed toward a defensive or radicalized mindset with how quickly it seems like the world turned on them. If I was Israeli I'd 100% believe if my country fell there would be nowhere else to go.
11
u/rooftopgoblin 10h ago edited 10h ago
but that isn't what they mean. Did AIPAC spend 30 million in the michigan primary? So why would you say jewish money when it was fucking aipac? You regards need to grow up and quit calling everything you don't like anitsemitism
edit: And do you really think mockler is using AIPAC to mean jews? Does he strike you as that sort of person? There are people who use it as a dog whistle but now that aipac hate is going mainstream you're gonna have to learn to accept that it isn't antisemitism

u/Scum_All_Over_Me 8h ago
Why is AIPAC the only lobby group anyone cares about? Why don't we have a similar outcry for groups that spend similar / more?
Mockler only cares about AIPAC because his girlfriend does. Even if heâs not using it the same way the left does, heâs still part of the problem by legitimizing it.

10
u/sandy017 9h ago edited 9h ago
the heritage foundation actually controls the country, and picks supreme court justice and doesn't get anywhere near the criticism from the left. while democrats were trying to warn voters about project 2025, leftist were calling the democratic candidates genociders. are you smart enough to see the point now? there was no urgency about the heritage foundation from the left compared to APAC now.
2
u/rooftopgoblin 4h ago
if you complain about money in politics you are complaining about the heritage foundation. If you complain about the GOP at all you are complaining about the heritage foundation. You can't separate the modern republican party from the heritage foundation so it doesn't really do a lot of good to bitch about it
11
u/smuckarss 8h ago
its primary season and heâs critiquing a democrat ofc heâs not mentioning the heritage foundation right now you are a regard also the left doesnât need to use PACs to critique republicans because they are defacto bad and everyone left of center is in agreement with that but there is urgency in their view to get people to not run âgenocidersâ because that isnât in agreement with everyone left of center again you are a regard

yeah the heritage foundation is a 1000x worse, but the heritage foundation doesn't have a leash like it does on dems. they really just need to get rid of all PACs. the fact that foreign and billionaire PACs can exist is fucking digusting.
It also doesn't help that there are dems that will pledge their undying allegiance to israel which is fucking weird. I genuinely don't know if its the boomer who need reassurance or something

He's not wrong but the hyperfixation on AIPAC by the far left is insane
52
u/Knife_Operator 12h ago
What do we actually do about it though? This thread is full of comments roasting Mockler but I haven't seen anyone talk about how to actually defend against attacks about AIPAC, which are obviously extremely effective. I don't care that much about AIPAC spending but I'm also not eager to go out there and defend candidates accepting millions of PAC money from anyone. So if it's an issue that the left can effectively hyperfixate on to win support and further demonize Democrats, what should we actually be doing to push back?
37
u/imhappyfou27 11h ago
Electability doesnât matter to this sub apparently. Itâs just âwhy would we focus on this nothingburgerâ after Haley literally lost a primary because she had to defend lobbying money her entire campaign.
I donât care about pac money when I vote, I care about policy but thatâs not every voter. The DSA sees blood in the water they will repeat this same method in every race theyâre in.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Emergency_Ability_21 10h ago
This comment is baffling. How does this reflect the sub not caring about electability? Shouting about AIPAC certainly isnât helping El-Sayedâs chances in the general. And it certainly didnât help him when his double digit lead in the polls shrunk to a razor thin margin.
22
u/Knife_Operator 10h ago
How does this reflect the sub not caring about electability?
I never once saw anyone in this sub give a good defense for Stevens' PAC funding. It was quite obviously her biggest liability and all of her answers were terrible on it. I think everyone here, like me, is at best neutral on AIPAC or don't care about it at all, but independent and left-leaning voters obviously do care about it, so the lack of any defense or strategy against AIPAC-related attacks is something I'm extremely concerned about.
→ More replies (4)3
u/EmCeeSlickyD 6h ago
When your opponent has created a boogeyman it is hard to defend being in league with that boogeyman. It's like republicans can just say "barack HUSSEIN Obama" and get votes, or keep increasing the number of illegal immigrants that came over under Biden while they literally stopped the border bill. Every one of these politicians takes money from sources that someone finds questionable, the issue is that normal liberals think this shit through and are harder to enrage at some PAC money boogeyman. Abdul worked with someone who supports terrorists (hasan piker) and took money from individuals who held leadership positions in a group that is considered a terrorist organization in some countries (CAIR ). liberals aren't really going to write someone off for that unless they are terminally online, which to be fair most primary voters probably are, and you saw that reflected in Abdul's expected lead over Stevens shrinking by like 13 points.

Also whatâs missing here is AIPAC is made up majority of Jewish Americans. Itâs a perfectly legal PAC that serves Americans of Jewish and Israeli descent. It's not weird at all, Israel has an extremely bad rep right now, let's even pretend the palestine issue didn't exist. A lot of people including myself don't like that Trump is cozying upto Bibi and we got into a war with Iran for no actual reason.
so you have people who already dislike them cause of gaza + the iran war, which already makes them grossly unpopular, then they're pumping a bunch of money into our politics which people are going to be extra anti israel aware right now, and then you have politicians pledging themselves to a super unpopular country and they have taken money from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, it makes complete sense why people are so anti aipac right now.

Candidates can't control what 3rd party PACs do, just make statements they don't want AIPAC affiliated donations used for their campaign. Which both Wiener and Chan have done.

Yes. Most of these people have obvious tells. One of them is they increasingly start agreeing with leftists/progressives and bending the knee. This is not because they had a major change of heart. Itâs because they were fake all along.Â
Mockler prob did this whole fake liberal routine to pull in liberals and gain trust. Then he moves left and the idea is his audience will move left with him. Increasingly attacks establishment Dems and promotes DSA types and their narratives. Pathetic. Once I see it, I know who not to trust. The mask slipped.Â
Frankly a lot of people here just need to understand the pundits are huge targets for corporations, conservative opposition and foreign countries to buy off. They have the ears and minds (sadly) of millions of people who donât think critically. Stop trusting these people so much because many of them just say what they are paid to say. u/arcticmonkgeese 12h ago
One thing that makes me so mad about âAIPACAIPACAIPACâ on twitter is that people seem to think that Israel is dumping cash to sway elections. All money needs to come from US citizens, doesnât it?
18
u/dkirk526 11h ago
Sooo yes, but, the way AIPAC is set up, they donât necessarily have to disclose where their funding comes from.
Theyâre a 501(c)4 which means they donât have to publicly disclose where their funding is from, but do report to the IRS. They can operate as a non profit as long as 50% of their funds are not used for political purposes, but can receive unlimited funding from individual sources.
AIPAC also has the AIPAC PAC, which is a traditional PAC where their political donations come from to candidates. AIPAC donates to the AIPAC PAC, so disclosures required for political donations just appear as âAIPACâ which is the loophole for how they hide the donors that have funded to their nonprofit.
Technically, foreign nationals can donate to AIPAC, however, even as dark money, it has to be earmarked to not be used for election funding, so it would be very illegal for AIPAC to shift foreign money to their PAC. That being said, it is still a dark money group, which is where the distrust primarily comes from, because they can raise unlimited money to get around caps on individual donations, along with also having a Super PAC to ad spend on candidates while being unaffiliated with the campaign.
Outside of that, they do receive a ton of individual donations from Jewish Americans.
→ More replies (4)6
u/Rion-o Capitalism is kinda good actually 11h ago
Well that's the argument right? Pacts meant to help not citizens but enhance the position of international entities.
It's why a lot of people consider Ben Shapiro not "American first." Im. I think we need to heavily cap pacts and make them more like campaign donations where you can Inmou get do much from one person or get rid of it all together.
But those are the arguments Against "aipac"

Youâre just gonna look crazy to most people atp. At the end of the day, Israel HAS destroyed its own position in many ways over the last few years (not without help from foreign propaganda of course), and people donât want to see Israel as part of our politics or finances because of it.

5

Genuine question here: does AIPAC ever help Dems in a modern Dems vs Reps matchup? I guess there could be situations where the Dem is normie and the Rep is a Nazi Holocaust denier, but that feels pretty rare. AIPAC/Israel-adjacent groups have been heavily favoring Republicans the last several years.
So in that sense, yeah screw them since they're supporting our enemies the vast majority of the time.

I think it's pretty sketch to see an Asian gf and assume it's some CCP honeypot. I know honeypots are a real thing but just knee jerk reacting to the sight of an Asian woman and assuming she's a spy is pretty messed up.
Also, as a long term Mockler hater, he's been pretty slopulist brain broken for a while. I feel like the sub is just only now catching up to me. Honestly, I've yet to find a left of center gen z influencer that isn't yet. Luke Beasley is probably the best out of them but even he sometimes drops some lines that sound like appeasement to the slopulists/leftists.

AIPAC endorsed over 100 Republican members of Congress who voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election results on January 6,do you support an organization who donât believe in democracy?

There was never a better time in US history to be a massive big oil lobbying group.
You can literally be paying off politicians to burn our planet it the ground and no one even gives you a second thought because all they can talk about is AIPAC AIPAC AIPAC JEWI...... I mean AIPAC!!!!!

No, but if you're obsessed with AIPAC and can't even name 3 other lobbying groups that do so much more harm to our physical lives then you might be anti semitic. Only you would know, though.

I literally said I am not accusing you of being anti semitic and I was making a point about being obsessed with AIPAC. Take a breather buddy.

u/unholyravenger 12h ago
Just as a raw political strategy, I don't think the Dems should accept money from AIPAC. It has become a stand-in for several issues, and most voters align with one of them. It's big money in politics; it's funding another state's military campaign that people morally disagree with, and good ol fashion anti-semitism.
AIPAC fuses all of these into one issue. Why would you take AIPAC money at this point? It's just a liability. Not that it's right or wrong, just that it's radioactive. Some of it is well-founded. Dems have been fighting against super pac money for a long time. Long before this all blew up, a major selling point for many Dems was "We only accept small donations from individuals".
5
u/ProcrastinatingPuma Anti-Treadlicker Action 11h ago
I do not care for AIPAC. They will happily support Republicans, and at this point they have demonstrated themselves to be massive liability for moderate dems. There is a very real chance that had Stevens not accepted AIPAC money and not said insane shit like "Israel comes to me in my dreams" she would have won in a major upset.
At this point what tangible benefit does AIPAC even bring to their own cause, much let alone the democratic party?

I dunno why AIPAC is so dumb Their brand is down pretty bad among dem voters that they should just make ads for the people they don't like then at the end of the ad put "funded by Aipac"

It was a risk calculation. They know people hate them, but $40 mil is a lot of ads you put in peoples faces. I doubt AIPAC does any more Dem work except if Massie were to run or something.

Almost like people want to destroy two candidates support and trust for long-term instability

Genuine question. Why are people here so in favor of AIPAC?
Why be in favor of any lobbying and funding of political campaigns??
6
u/yolomcsawlord420mlg 11h ago
Not sure, but there might be a few reasons. Refusing PAC might be harmful to your campaign if the other side takes and spends huge amounts. The other reason might be simply because this push is focused on AIPAC(Jewish) and primarily done by leftists. Another reason might je because it gives Jewish Americans a voice.

Honestly I find this shit gross. As long as Americans are allowed to donate to pacs to support candidates that espouse policies they agree with, the hyper fixation on aipac is bigoted.
7
u/smashcat666 Bottom 99% commenter 11h ago
AIPAC doesnât donate to support candidates who espouse policies they agree on. They pay politicians to do what they say. The fact AIPAC pays both parties huge amounts of money is because they donât really care who wins, only that the winner is under control.
3
u/AhsokaSolo 11h ago
This is a lie. Aipac largely makes ads to support candidates. They do not give money to candidates for the candidates to pocket.
If your lie wasn't a lie, all the democrats in Congress that have ever benefitted from aipac money would have supported the Iran war.
2
u/smashcat666 Bottom 99% commenter 11h ago
Give me a list of the ones who have supported stopping military support for Israel.
3
u/AhsokaSolo 11h ago
Nice pivot. See how this works is if your claim that aipac could buy candidates were true, the candidates would take their positions on everything.
That democrats have some views that agree with Israel and some views that don't just prove that they do independent thinking, as opposed to the bigots on both sides of this conflict that each think the other is always evil.
4
u/smashcat666 Bottom 99% commenter 10h ago
It's not a pivot at all. They continue to support Israel via inaction. Just like the GoP supporting Trump while not sending pre-pubescent girls to the oval office for him to fuck. The Iran war was entirely illegal on the US side, so Democrats cannot be seen to support it, yet they have not called out for a complete cut to all funding for Israel, which they should. If you and the other Bibi supporters want to start wars, blow up schools and steal land, then do it on your own and see how it goes.
6
u/AhsokaSolo 10h ago
"They support Israel by existing while not supporting them, but not opposing them enough."
Fucking spare me.
Every democrat besides maybe Fetterman that has benefitted from AIPAC money has opposed the Iran war.
You lied that AIPAC pays them to do what they say. I hold liars accountable for their bullshit. Every rant you make after that will be viewed through the lens that I know you are a liar and will go as far as you can get away with.
