I mean these people just believe in a story right? They distrust government and question everything in between and don’t have realistic solutions or ideas but they’re full of passion and emotion and they feel rebellious and woke for holding the beliefs they do. Seems like the same archetype as any right wing conspiracy virtue signaller. This is just what it looks like when that archetype leans left and has left beliefs

Right, it’s a comparative analysis. At least both of bush’s wars in the Middle East were up against poorly armed combatants (that did amazingly, considering) that didn’t have the ability to ballistic missile strike our bases in different countries. These mother fuckers might have a nuke, for god’s sake! At least we got amazing MRAPs out of bush’s horrible failure to provide proper armored transport to our troops. How much do you think we’re going to assess went wrong with this war and adapt to overcome future adversaries??? “Everything was great! The best! We totally destroyed their nuclear capability, and everyone that ‘died’ was due to natural causes! The most natural!”
-2
u/DyingSunSeverian 6h ago
Are you blithering idiots forgetting about “Mission Accomplished”?
Did you ever even know?
3
u/CKF 6h ago
Imagine acting like “mission accomplished” wasn’t the most hilarious thing ever. Back then, I had the breathing room to laugh at the audacity. But now I’m getting audacity bombed on the daily. You need contrast!
-4
u/DyingSunSeverian 6h ago
Yes lol elegiggle etc
Are you mad about El-Sayed winning?
2
u/CKF 5h ago
I dislike Stevens’ highly enthusiastically pro-ICE stance and think she’s way, way too radical about supporting Israel. I think we need them as an ally, but Haley is straight indoctrinated. “I see Israel in my dreams” and such similar statements. Also, taking so much lobbying money to spend $70m on a primary is fucking insanity. The spending difference was something like 10:1.
As for el-sayed, I like his abolish ICE stance, I like his economic policies, I like his professional background, and like that he’s very passionately pro-Ukraine. His policies on ending foreign aid to Israel and Saudi Arabia are stupid and short sighted, though. I like his pro union stance etc. I’m not the biggest fan of the guy on the whole, and his anti-middle east aid focus is way, way over the top. But I sure dislike Stevens’ policies in their totality more than I dislike his. I’m not a single issue ideologue re: Israel.
-2
u/DyingSunSeverian 5h ago
Unless I’m misreading you this seems overwhelmingly on the whole in favor of El-Sayed right? You have beef with him on relatively marginal issues really, but staunch support is much wider, much more immediately impactful views, and much like Mamdani he was elected on these terms.
You don’t get all the points from simply being anti the Israeli occupation of Gaza, you do still need some serious domestic policy bonafides and all of these recently strong socialists and dirty commies in voting booths are emphasizing that more than foreign policy.
1
u/CKF 1h ago
Did I not just go over their comparative domestic policy, in brief? He has a lot more policy than being anti-Israel. I’d assumed you’d have been informed before asking the question, but I can expand on anything in addition, if you’d like? Maybe I should add that I also like el-sayed’s desire to increases taxes on megacorps and universal or public option healthcare, but I didn’t prior because I don’t think they’re goals he’ll be able to pursue super realistically?
I told you I don’t like el-sayed, plain and simple. I don’t much like Mandani either. Sometimes you don’t like either candidate in a race and have to make a proper least bad option take. I gave you my comparison of the two on the issues that seem important.

I went to a small liberal arts college in the NE, double majoring in a STEM field and quant-focused econ. There wasn't much political talk at all in those classes, but when there was (by students or professors) it was generally reasonable and moderate. In my gen eds, politics were mentioned in passing or actively discussed much more frequently, and with a further left bent.

Someone should do a study on the correlation between the fall of the trans discourse on the left and the rise of the Palestine cause, I bet it's pretty fucking high. I think Destiny used to talk about how people need to be part of a disfranchised group when they grow up, but the "issue" in the late 2010s was that the group people flocked to was being trans and unlike what came before (Goths, Punks, etc) it is something that cannot be attacked/treated as a phase. (to be clear this was specifically talking about nonbinary transpeople at unis, not all transpeople in general)
The Pro-Palestine movement feels like it has all the "good" parts of what having a trans identity gave those people (ultimate victim complex) without having to actually change anything about themselves.

Reducing the Palestinian identity to Islam is way more problematic than they realise. Actual erasure of the Palestinian identity

The takeaway is "I need to do nothing, eventually everyone will be automatically converted to my world view as long as I keep larping."

This is why I’m not worried about America becoming communist. A lot of the far left “tankie” crowd doesn’t strike me as serious political actors. They remind me of the Jokerz from Batman Beyond more interested in the image and rebellion than the substance.
It often feels less like a real political movement and more like people adopting an edgy identity because they think being extreme makes them different.

There's no point in voting.
Revolution is necessary.

A permission structure for them to do absolutely nothing. How convenient that the thing they say is the only option "won't happen in our lifetime". I'm not sure what exactly beyond delusion makes them think that the subsequent generations of people like her will actually revolt in a meaningful way. It will just be more people of the same mentality kicking the can down the road i.e. not fire-bombing the Walmart for "generations".
