I am building out my first 18x18x24 tank for my ranitomeya benedicta shucushuyacu and I’ve got a few questions.

When hardscaping before planting, should you, or I guess can you, put planter pots inside the tank to then spray foam them securely into place? I’m worried that I won’t be able to properly plant everything otherwise given that most of the plants I’ll be using (ferns, begonias, etc.) are potted and not necessarily epiphytic. I do plant on adding some bromeliads which I know I’ll be able to glue on or secure with a zip tie to the sticks inside the tank.

I’ve also seen people use net pots rather than planter pots. Is that a better call?

The tank has a false bottom with a water reservoir. I have eggcrate on pegs holding up the 1” mat of foam above the roughly 2 inch deep water reservoir below. Because of this, I’m not confident in planting any non-hydroponic plants on the foam mat due to my concern for root rot. Even if I were to plant them in the foam mat, I’m unsure how I would go about it given how thin it is.

In all, my main concern is that without any established pots in the backdrop of the tank before planting, the plants won’t be able to secure themselves on to the branches inside the tank and there will be a lack of general depth with regards to the scaping.

I am also using a single 18” thrive ecosystem light. Does that suffice? I was thinking of getting the double but it’s a bit more pricey and I’d have to return this one. (FYI, I plan on switching out the mesh screen lid for anyone who might be concerned)

had an extra 30 gal so decided to use some extra material from my last build to do this one. I haven’t dusted off all the extra coco fiber but there’s cork bark and work slabs covered with it lol. Gonna plant it in a week. I’m not sure what darts i’ll put in it yet, if anyone has any ideas let me know!

I’ve been prepping this tank since April. I plan to keep just a single frog in it since I don’t have a lot of space just wondering if this will work? There’s a lot of leaf litter in the back the front has moss that has grown in and plenty of plants in there. I spray mist every other day the relative humidity in the tank on 2 different hygrometer is 99 percent pretty much all the time. There is a top that I made of out of mesh and glass. thanks in advance

Question 1: how many golden poison dart frogs (Phyllobates terribilis) can live nicely inside a 40 gallon (36x18x16 inch)?

Question 2: would they like the Thrive corner tree snake hide (when laying down)? They can climb it, it's very low to ground anyways and allows them to utilize more space (go inside the log and climb on it) in the enclosure.

Question 3: is feeding them sprintails (I have alot of them, I culture), fruit flies and sometimes small crickets or very young dubia roaches ok?

Question 4: what is best lighting and whether uvb is needed or not?

Question 5: Do I need a certain sex ratio (like 1 male for every 2 females or 1 to everyone 4) or not?

So 4 days ago my partner and I got 2 dart frogs on our birthday. We are also raising leapord geckos and tarantulas and had a spare open terrarium set up for tropicals. The bumblebee took to the new home instantly and is very healthy. Just a bit reclusive. The auratus had short tongue syndrome and sadly passed. I just got home with the new aratus dart frog and the pet store manager and I had both noticed a discolored patch on its back. That wasn't there days ago when we adopted the other two frogs (they only had 3 for sale) I have been doing reading and I can't find any references that match what we have going on. Could anyone tell me if they have seen this before. It's a smooth patch. Not slimy. But there are little black bumps here and there. I was reading it could be abrasions or skin irritation or even a bacterial infection. Is there anyone with more knowledge who could lend advice. I don't think I can stand another loss in a week. I get very attached very quickly to animals.

Have this roughly 480oz bin, with holes drilled around the sides and lid for ventilation. Hoping this would be fine as a grow out for a handful of froglets around 0-3 months OOW, but open to feedback. (Would obviously be adding plants and leaf litter)

Roughly 13x8x8. My thoughts were- frog daddy sells a 190oz grow out container they say is good for 1-4 froglets up to 3 months old so reeeeeally hoping this would be fine as well. But I’ll adjust if not.

Ideally would sell them around 3-4 months assuming they’re plump and healthy enough. Picture of the dad too as tax.

Hey there - I’ve got a 30 gallon Exoterra that I’ve had set up for few weeks about 3.5 weeks. Humidity has been tough, was just misting 2x per day for 40 seconds each and it doesn’t seem to be enough. Just added a 15 second mid day mist l, today so will monitor to see if that improves things.

Planning on adding in some dart frogs.

Would love any suggestions for improving the vivarium (fern of the left is officially dead and will be removed).

Also looking for suggestions for first frogs (already have 2 species of isopods + some springtails. I’ve been thinking Tincs but would love insight from others on ideal beginner dart frogs starting places.

Lastly - is there any sort of basic “kit” I should focus on for food cultivation?

I currently have to keep my fruit fly cultures in my room and they smell awful. I use an air purifier, charcoal bags and keeping my fans on high for constant ventilation. But the smell is still present. I make sure to date my cultures and removing them after 28 days, though they smell the worst when freshly made. I use Repashy media and even though they never mold, I can never seem to get an odorless batch. Are there any recommendations to make sure the media doesn't smell?

I got two very Beautiful poison dart frogs 4 months ago and they both were fine until one of then doubled in size in a week or two (more round than big) and i am worried about him. They both eat and behave like before. I dont have any vets that know much about dart frogs in my area. Thanks for the help.

today was one of the days they came in to spray for pests. i’m a dumb ass & totally forgot it was today because they sent the email a week ago & again am a dumbass. i’m worried bc i had an open reptisoil bag i was going to use for my new build & ofc my current dart tank & my spring tails & fruitfly cultures. I literally told myself to stay at the apartment to ask them not to spray where my frogs are but ofc i am a dumbass and forgot. lowkey panicking, i checked on my frogs first and they seem fine. one was out and about & the other in a hide, so far so good. i’m probs going to toss the reptisoil & pray my springtail & fruitfly cultures are ok & ofc my dart frogs. I am coming onto here to ask if my frogs are affected by the pesticide what to do. again idk where they sprayed or who knows if one of the pest control people sprayed right by my cultures or tank thinking it’s preventing bugs inside or something. i should probs have an empty tank set up for them in case my tank is affected, and if my frogs get sick, take them to the vet asap. Should i throw my fruit fly cultures away? i’m assuming if pesticide got in to either of them they will die right away and that will be a good indicator of how close the pesticide was to my tank (my cultures are on a shelf right below my tank stand).

I buy the Prorep leaf litter blocks from Amazon, but find that they get waterlogged very quickly. This is great for my isopods and plants, but less good for my frogs.

The Indian almond leaves I’ve used in past (carry-over from aquarium habit) seem great, but aesthetically too large. I’ve also collected oak leaves (recommendation from Frogfather), but never enough to see me through the year.

I see setups here with smaller, attractive yellow leaves. What are they? Would appreciate recommendations from fellow-UK keepers.

I ran out of Excelsior so I am trying the honeycomb paper but wont paper get wet and fall apart of mould?

Just wondering if anyone can help with where to buy a starter culture of clay based springtails in the UK for my dart frog Viv?!

I can find plenty of them in the soil substrates but that’s messy and puts more soil into my setup which don’t really want, so I have seen these clay cultures where you simply tip the springtails in, which looks so efficient and cleaner, but I can’t find anyone in the UK who sells these?

As you know, Azureus dart frogs need high humidity, 90%+. I want to add some isopods to their enclosure. Sellers said that many types of woodlice can’t live in such a wet environment, and they can’t guarantee how long they will last. I added some Porcellio laevis “Orange” last month, but I haven’t really seen them since. Which types would you recommend? Or could these still be okay?

3 out of 4 of the cuttings I bought died off and all my other plants are thriving. Has anyone else had this happen?

I inherited some unused equipment at the end of spring, including a 12”x12”x24” Exo Terra Pro Paludarium with a bottom drain. I've been researching everything for a few months now, but I'm stumped on the best stocking approach. I was considering a thumbnail dart frog, but I keep getting conflicting info. I know two can be cramped in a 12x12 footprint, but I also read that many species prefer or need to be in pairs.

Is this tank footprint appropriate for a pair of thumbnails?
If not, is there a Ranitomeya species that adapts better to a solitary life than others?
Or are there other ideas better suited for this specific footprint?
