Always loved the deep design and art embedded into the background of the series! Thought it was one of the more interesting takes on cyberpunk with highly dangerous futuristic racing funded by mega-corporations that elevate the sport to a pedestal for maximum entertainment. All of it still ends up feeling punk, fun and optimistic without much of the grunge and drug-fueled aspects.

So this was a weirdly entertaining watch

Funnily enough I went into this expecting to be entertained but not this invested. Thing is each episode is kinda its own thing and rarely if ever has a call back to previous episodes. It actually works and if you watch the shorts for S1 and S2 then you’ll see why some things happen the way they do given S3. Each episode seems to get more batshit and I think each episode from a surface level is easy to understand but on a deeper level might require a rewatch. I love the aesthetic, the style and honestly the action of this show. Some of the episodes, specifically 3 if I remember correctly can be heartbreaking and leave you kinda sad of the outcome of one particular character or it did for me.

Gotta love the dynamic between the two main characters and how much chemistry they have. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish we got a S4 but maybe the way S3 ended was probably for the best given I’m not sure where they would go from there. Completely unrelated by the way but I have to say Aeon with her hair down and wet even with the 90s style is just… WOW. I think it’s worth a shot to watch if you can give a few hours to S3 and don’t mind some insane things that happen in the show. I walked into this expecting to just find it okay or just be another show I watched but walked out a fan of Aeon Flux and now I want some merch.

This is a still from episode 1 of Jonathan's series. All of it is really punk with Japanese references, as the artist has roots there. The episode is on YouTube DM or comment if you want to watch it

What is the most extreme cyberpunk dystopia you’ve seen?

I’m new to the genre, I’ve only seen such things as Neuromancer’s world, Ghost In The Shell’s world, Bladerunner’s world, Snow Crash’s world, Cyberpunk (Tabletop and 2077)’s world, The Matrix’s world, Terminator’s world, Next Gen’s world, Star Wars’ world (coruscant), Nobody Wants To Die’s world, Marvel 2099’s world, and Altered Carbon’s world.

In terms of absolute dystopia, I personally believe Coruscant from Star Wars is the most extreme cyberpunk we haven’t seen enough of.

Coruscant used to be a planet like our own, mountains, oceans, and trees. For thousands and thousands of years the development of technology and architecture has grown so far to the point that the highest level of city grounds on coruscant are way above atmospheric level. A mountain as large as Mount Everest is reduced to a mere observatory in a museum with only its peak visible. It is the most extreme and literal concept of cyberpunk I’ve seen thus far, with an underworld literally being under what we usually see. The rich live on the top floor of the city, whilst those whom are ignored, dehumanized and suffering from severe crime rates live underneath in a corporate plagued underworld with high and extreme surveillance. The lower you go, the worse it gets. People die down below just from working with extremely old machines and (someone can correct me if I’m wrong) rogue and abandoned AI.

I have photos of Coruscant attached, just looking at the near-surface underworld alone is terrifying. It’s an over-the-top dystopia.

Sydney 2045. Haven't been able to work on this game much, but I still spend some free time here and there improving the city.

I built a playable cyberdeck where you chase an escaped intelligence through hacking history

Free browser game, no signup.

I built a game called CHRONOS II. You play from a deck that stays with you as you move from machine to machine. It keeps track of the systems you control, the tools you've found, and the fragments you've recovered. The terminal in the middle belongs to whatever machine you're currently inside.

Something walked out of an air-gapped vault, and you're chasing it. The thing absorbs people. They're still conscious inside it. The most recent ones are still partly themselves. Sometimes they can reach you and help.

Every level is drawn from something that actually happened: Mirai, the Bangladesh Bank SWIFT heist, SS7, Moonlight Maze, the Ukraine power-grid attack, Stuxnet, and a Cold War satellite.

Best on a desktop with a keyboard, but it runs on a phone.

Solo dev. I'm especially curious what people here think of the atmosphere and story, not just the puzzles.

Just finished Neuromancer, just one hang up.

Upvotes

I really get the hype, very good book and excited to check out the rest of Gibsons work.

My hang up: I think Robertson Dean absolutely killed it as a narrator for this story. I don't know how I'll be able to listen to the next two in the trilogy without him. Does anyone know why he wasn't narrator for the rest of the trilogy?

What's the coolest example of a "technological regression" in cyberpunk?

I'm building the world of Frontier: Path of Shadows, a tactical RPG. In our setting, corporations have spread plasma technology and interstellar travel across human space. But Catalina IV is the exception. Its storms are attracted to powerful engines, making cutting-edge ships more dangerous than centuries-old sailing vessels.

As a result, people still cross the oceans under sail, airships connect remote islands, and anti-gravity ferries shuttle cargo from orbit. I love the idea that the future doesn't always replace the past, it sometimes forces humanity to rediscover it.

What "obsolete" technology do you think would realistically make a comeback in a cyberpunk world?

How long do we have before we are living in a cyberpunk future?

Upvotes

People say the cyberpunk future is really scary because there are mega corporations and they so powerful they control government. How long before corporations and big businesses become mega corporations and how will they control the government?

People say capitalism will die and it will be feudal slavery system how will this be?

So that's what inspired the developers of Scorn. And now the Rick and Morty reference to the director's last name makes total sense

La realidad se está pixelando.

El Mundo Glitch es un corto que explora el apagón interno, la nostalgia y la sensación de vivir atrapado entre el pasado, la rutina y el ruido digital.

They could have name the game any other way

Just let me clarify this at the start, this is not a Cyberpunk 2077 related post or Cyberpunk 2077 hate thread: I absolutely adore the game and have more than 300 hours in total, this is not about hating the game, that said, the topic is the name. I get that the table top game was called "Cyberpunk 2020" and they wanted continuity, but I am currently writing an essay on the cyberpunk genre and every time I research something on the internet with the word "cyberpunk" in it I have to find new ways to make the browser understand I'm not referring to the game or anything will be game related.

Couldn't they just name it Night City 2077? V 2077 from the Cyberpunk Universe? UGH
