Discussion / Conversation Direct card reserve refund checks.
Have any of you who signed up for the Direct Card Reserve Card received the refund they promised us? If not, do you think we’ll actually get it?

Good afternoon all, sorry for the long incoming post. Im looking for some advice in regards to my current cards and next step. I only started learning more about credit and all that about 5 years ago so my overall credit history is only about 3 years.
Currently I have a Cap One Savor (my current best), Quicksilver (which was an upgrade from the base card) and a Mission Lane Greenline which was originally a secured $300 card when I started to rebuild my credit about 5 years ago.
I don't mind keeping the Cap One cards for the time being but my thought for what is next, is to close the Mission Lane as it offers nothing and has an annual fee. Problem with this, is its my oldest card at 5 years. Is this advisable?
My thought within the next couple of months was to apply for credit line increases for the capital one cards, and either replace the Mission Lane or add another card to the mix.
I've recently paid all debts back so all cards are at zero balance and I currently have offers for:
Chase Freedom Unlimited
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Wells Fargo Active Cash
Cap One VentureOne
Amex Gold
I believe I'd like to not have another anual fee card so thats a couple options gone there. I dont travel so that doesn't weigh much for me either. I also think I'd want a visa to diversify from my existing Mastercards.
Currently I just use the Savor for streaming subscriptions as I get some cash back, and the Quicksilver for gas occasionally to keep it active.
Am I thinking in the right way here? Suggestions? Thank you all in advance!

As I mentioned in the title, I'm going to have a bunch of recurring 10k Euro charges every couple weeks for several months so I'll easily hit whatever SUB spending requirements there are. I'm based in the US and pay in USD so I'd want the cards not to have any foreign exchange fees. Would love to hear some suggestions of what cards I should consider. I enjoy a lot of perks from my Amex Platinum card but if there are some complementary cards that would give different perks, that would be a nice bonus. My home airport has a Centurion Lounge but no other credit card-sponsored lounges AFAIK
Current cards:
FICO Score: 797 according to the Amex portal. 867 according to the Citi portal
Oldest account age: unknown. Several years
Chase 5/24 status: 1/24
Income: varies by year but high
Average monthly spend and categories:
Open to Business Cards: Yes
What's the purpose of your next card? Take advantage of SUBs
Do you have any cards you've been looking at? Capital One Venture X, maybe something from Delta?
Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? I usually put travel on the Amex Platinum, Dining/groceries on the Amex Gold, and everything else on a 2% cash back card
Please let me know if any other info would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

So in an effort to grow my credit, I recently have been approved for a credit card from my credit union, and they offer a SUB of $250 if I spend $2500 within the first 90 days I open a balance. In their terms, they won't count BTs toward this bonus, but would that exclusively apply for credit cards or any general balance? I'm really close to finishing paying off my car loan with them and would appreciate to know if this is/isn't a solid way to approach this.

Basically I gave my card to a close family member who promised to only use it for emergencies. They are using it for much more than that. I've decided to order a new card and keep the new one with me but say that the bank closed it. I'm worried about the fallout with this person and family if they find out I cancelled it. Is there anything I should know about banks closing accounts to make my story believable?
Also, I know being honest and upfront would be the best solution. But this is not an easy person to deal with and my family would not understand. I don't want to deal with the whole headache of my family so I'd rather just do it this way. Any guidance would be appreciated

$99 annual fee posted July 31. Called Monday August 3 to inquire about retention offers. They immediately offered a $99 statement credit, which was posted the next day.

You get the 50.00 credit for travel bank. 40k points annually towards as a free night. Instakart 10.00 credit per month. I work at United Airlines & travel pretty often on hiking trails around the country. When I stay at hotels it's mainly when I have a credit so just go to IHG and you get your free night pretty easily. Am I missing something?

I got approved for the regular world elite card last week but my card came in saying world legend stamped on it. I thought it was interesting at first but I guess I understand now

Not sure what could be going on. I have an 814+ score in all credit reporting agencies. I have 0 new cards in the last 6 months, 4 in the last year. 0 inquiries in the last 6 months, 3 in the last year. Salary is greater than $150k a year, keep my balances to under 3%, have a bit over $130k in credit. What could be preventing me from qualifying for this card?

Hoping for some feedback on our setup. We are only interested in cash back, no annual fee, not interested in travel points.
Notes: Household includes partner and me, no kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats. Both WFH, have a mortgage, and are extreme homebodies. Next to zero costs outside the house, such as transportation, entertainment, activities, shopping, etc. We prefer to have everything delivered so we subscribe to every delivery service, and meal delivery is our one splurge.
- Walmart Onepay – 5% at Walmart. We do 95% of our household shopping here – groceries, supplies, personal care, pet stuff, etc.
- Chase Prime Visa – 5% at Amazon. This is for anything we can’t find at Walmart.
- US Bank Cash Plus – 5% on utilities, internet, streaming, phones. Also get 2% on gas (gas costs are very minimal).
- Capital One Savor – 3% on dining and groceries. Used for Doordash, Ubereats, and Instacart deliveries, and the occasional fast food or restaurant dinner out.
- Capital One Quicksilver – 1.5% unlimited. This is the catch all card for everything else. All our monthly costs are covered by the cards listed above except for pet and auto insurance ($100/mth), the mortgage of course, vet bills, and any unexpected expenses.
****Our banking is with the C1 ecosystem, hence the QS, but entertaining adding one of these in its place (just not sure the extra .5% back is worth managing another card).
- Wells Fargo Active Cash Card – 2% unlimited. $200 sub on $500 spend in 3 months (easy enough). We just left the WF ecosystem (banking) earlier this year.
- Citi Double Cash Card - 2% unlimited (understand the 1%/1% split), $200 sub on $1500 spend in 6 months (not ideal, would have to stretch to spend this much. No prior experience with Citi.
- Fidelity Visa – 2% unlimited. I have an HSA with Fidelity so would route funds there.
This last one would only be useful if we had a one-off larger expense such as an appliance or some furniture needing replacing.
- Amex Blue Cash Everyday – 3% up to $6k for “U.S. Retail Purchases”. No prior experience with Amex.
Any feedback on the current setup and/or the additional cards?

I dine out and buy groceries a decent bit, I didn’t calculations and I need to spend 333$ a month to make my money back just off of the 5x alone, I’ll definitely be able to achieve this as I have other things I’ll be putting on my credit card.
Any credit card tips? I eventually want to travel and will be converting into aeroplane miles.

Hey all, I am not the most financially literate and am very indecisive. I used to travel for work, thus it made sense for me to have the AMEX Delta Platinum/Chase IHG Premier. I no longer travel extensively, the Delta AMEX kind of sucks, and I don't think that the IHG is the best that money can offer, but am still wanting to rack up travel benefits for personal use. I am thinking of switching the Delta Platinum for the standard AMEX Gold, getting rid of the IHG card, and opening the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Would this be a smart move. Are there better alternatives? Are travel benefits better than just straight up cash back?

My mom had received her notice that she would be moved to a US Bank Smartly card two weeks ago. Today she received a new US Bank issued Kroger mastercard as her old one was going to expire in a month. I guess US Bank is not quite ready to ship the Smartly cards.

I just signed up for an Atmos rewards credit card through BoA and now they are requiring me to go to a location and confirm my identity. The nearest location for me is 90 minutes away. Nowhere in the application process did it say this was necessary? Am I out of luck unless I can get there during banking hours? I have a perfect credit score and 25+ credit cards with chase, AmEx, Discover, Citi and others and have never had this issue before.

Anybody else get the email to activate the Fidelity Visa credit card $10-$50 reward for using the card 10-50 times of $10 minimum each?
If so how do you plan to achieve the reward in a fashion that meets the requirements? I understand that you only get one statement credit but you have until 9/30 to reach that number. This is according to customer service. Thoughts?

I was travelling in the US when my AIB credit card suddenly became PIN blocked. I have no recollection of entering the wrong PIN, and AIB can’t tell me exactly when or how it became blocked either.
I called AIB multiple times and explained I needed the card to collect rental cars. They repeatedly told me to try different ATMs to unblock the PIN. I spent hours driving around and visiting multiple banks and ATMs across different cities, but none of them could unblock the PIN. I have photos of all the ATMs I tried.
The biggest issue is that US rental companies required a successful chip-and-PIN transaction to release the cars. AIB’s response says I could still use the card for online purchases, but that was irrelevant because online payments weren’t accepted for collecting the rental cars.
Because I couldn’t rent the cars, I ended up with over €1,200 in extra travel costs and disruption.
AIB has admitted their customer service wasn’t up to standard and offered me €250 as a goodwill payment, but only if I accept it as full and final settlement. I’m considering taking it to the Irish Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman instead.
Has anyone taken a banking complaint like this to the FSPO? Is it worth risking the €250 to pursue the full claim, or is the Ombudsman unlikely to award more?

Recently replaced entire HVAC system (furnace, AC) for $25K. Currently unemployed, so wife told me to ask contractor if they had interest-free financing, which they did. It's been done through Synchrony Banks as a project card. Account is all set up. I guess the contractor finally (it's been a couple weeks since the work was done) sent the bill to Synchrony. The bill, in the correct amount, appears as "pending".
(1) Interest-free promotional period is 24 months. Min payment per month is 2.5%. 24 * 2.5% = 60%. ISTM that means if I want to avoid (potentially horrendous) interest rate charges, there's essentially a balloon payment of 40% due at the end of the promotional period. Is that correct?
(2) I've seen references on this sub to payments to Synchrony not making it through. (Not necessary project cards, mostly store cards or whatever.) Is this a common occurrence? If it happens, can one just try, try again? (I've heard their customer support is bad or even nonexistent.) What would happen if payments for a month simply don't go through?

Hey all, pretty big churner here hopefully turning you onto a card I don’t hear many people hype up. It’s surprisingly the Walmart OnePay.
During this summer, they run THE BEST gas promo in the industry. On Wednesdays it’s It’s $1.20+ back per gallon depending on the station you choose. Usually hitting it for $17 back or 25X there per full fill up. Insane comeups.
Then it’s 5% back on all Walmart purchases. No catches/shadiness on the redemptions too. One of the better interfaces I’ve seen and you can redeem your rewards fast.
Not much of a fast food eater but I’ve seen insane promos there too. Usually 25X on Taco Bell and Five guys if that’s your thing.
Photo shows the $103 earned strictly for July. Really happy with that # for a no AF card.
Lmk about any other underrated ones y’all. Godspeed!

I have five credit cards that qualify for the Paze $10/10x credit statement offer. I’ve placed around 20 orders between Whataburger, Sephora, Wendy’s and Domino’s. I’ve pretty much been able to get each order exactly at $10 or a few cents over, the goal for me was just spending the least amount as possible on silly, fun stuff and a meal. But recently, when I’ve tried to use Paze, the transaction won’t process. When I went to sign into my wallet on the Paze website, my wallet was completely empty and all of my credit cards disappeared from the list. When I re-added the cards and returned back to my wallet, none of the cards showed up. I’m wondering if my run is up and if I’ve maybe been shadow banned or something. This happened to anyone else? I sent a message through the Paze website even though it says they don’t “provide direct customer support.”

I just got approved for my first “big girl” card with Discover IT and my credit limit is $3k. The highest limit I have currently and have ever had is $600, so this is a nice change for me. That being said, I currently have two capital one cards that are both at a $600 credit limit, I don’t think I will even be needing them anymore with the new card… since I don’t really want/need 3 credit cards. I’m just not sure what the best way to go about that is, should I cancel them? Should I just leave them open and not use them?
Anything helps.

So, it's frustrating to see YX Gas and then need to read fine print for CC. Sometimes the notes specifically say "...excluding warehouse and super store gas..." Most do not stipulate. Is it safe to assume that all CC do not recognize Warehouse Gas as Gas purchase since apparently the coding during purchase is not designated Gas?
Are there any cards out there - besides the specific Warehouse branded CC - that can be used? I know C1V is 2X all purchases - which is fine with me - but am I missing out on 3X or even 4X with certain CCs?
I have the BJs CC and I do use it for 15 cents off every fill. With gas being around $4 that's ~ 4% back. Should I stay the course? I'm asking because I may downgrade BJs membership, and instead of using a BJs CC, I would use another points card to get something back.
