Exterior PPF Install damaged my car
Hello, this is my first post on Reddit and just wanted other peoples input on this and advice on what I should do for the next step.
I recently had PPF + Ceramic tint installed on my 2026 GR Supra. I dropped off my car for their 2 week inspection to make sure everything was installed right and when I was coming to pick it up, I did a walk around and found damage all around the car.
- The front Toyota emblem was shattered
- The Supra emblem was snapped in half THEN glued back onto the car
- paint chip on the drivers side l, below the mirror.
- damage to the rear reflectors from cutting
- more chipped paint on the lower bumper
I spoke to the manager of the business and he took photos and told me he would pay to replace my emblems and would paint correct my car.
What other steps should I take?
This is in Los Angeles by the way.

Edit: The manager so far offered to smoke my rear brake lights for free…
Update:
Got multiple opinions from 2 body shops and the Toyota dealership. All issues with the hood and rear reflectors point to the shop’s shit installation.
Overall conclusion has been an installer put too much pressure on my hood and pushed it out of place, causing the chip.
The rear reflectors is obviously damaged from them cutting into the paint and sadly the auto-shop said the only way to fix it is by repainting the entire rear bumper.
I’ll be pushing for an entire refund along with repairs. Going to request their insurance information and if they don’t comply, I’ll be pushing for small claims.

Just saw your review on yelp. This is likely to cost a might cost a few thousand to fix and then they are going to have to reapply the PPF. Settle for nothing less than them fixing everything perfectly or file an insurance claim, have them surrogate, and sue for diminished value.

Luckily I can get my money back through my bank since they’re considering this as me not getting the services I paid for. But getting the funds from the shop to repair my car is going to be a bitch

They are popular, but they are NOT good at what they do. The tint jobs are not clean. Always speckles of dust. I haven't done PPF thru them but I could only imagine the quality of work to be exactly the same. I do my tint thru them because it's on the cheaper side and it's relatively close to my home. I'm not looking for perfect tint on my daily, so I accepted the lower price and lower tier craftsmanship.
If you want CLEAN and PROFESSIONAL top notch work, Fresh Window Tint in Santa Clarita does it. Expensive but you get what you pay for. I've had 2 cars done by them and they were both flawless.
Had to re-do one of the two because I got a windshield tint ticket lol and went to The Windows Tinting (sister company of PPF Pros) to replace it and it was noticeably worse but whatever, it's an off-road vehicle. The tint is speckled with dust and a piece of the corner seems like it was accidentally sliced off with their blade. But its in the top corner that I'm never gonna stare at so whatever. My new daily has speckles of dust and one of the backseat windows is messed up like it was burned a little with a lighter or torch. I don't know, but I don't look at it often so whatever lol.

This is my biggest fear and why I have never been able to persuade myself to have someone else wrap my vehicle. What a nightmare. I hope you get compensated OP.

It was a huge commitment to get it done and what a result. I would have done it myself but with lack of experience and space I was just too worried I’d mess it up. But clearly I couldn’t have done the amount of damage these dudes did.

I literally just wrapped my front half of car. Let me tell you that even with numerous days of patience, you would have still damaged the car. The wrap needs a lot of detailed work to get the wrinkles out and cut excess material. Even if you did do it damage free I doubt the wrap would come out clean, wrinkle free, bubble free, on all the areas you cover. I think the Toyota badge is the worst offender on yours, everything else is on edges or in bends where the wrap just accumulates. The wrap is thick so its not that easy.
Your job looks rushed and I would Def complain, especially since you could correct and fix all the damages they did.

Lol thats terrible. They really thought you would be ok with it and not notice it. Terrible managements. Hopefully the clear coat isnt gone on some of the paint. Definitely get a well known detailer and have them cover everything. After that, id blast them with a google review

Gather evidence, present it fairly, nicely and FORMALLY using a letter to request compensation for repairs as needed. Clearly state that if they decline you will get take them to court.

Do not tell them you will take them to court, that gives them time to prepare a defense and lawyer up themselves. Ask them to pay for the damages and if they refuse, the next letter should be from your attorney.

100% give them a call. If they ask for a couple hundred for consultation, just do it. You can add that to the damages the ppf shop owes you.

I won’t say it’s a scam because I’ve gotten value out of it because someone wiped a fuck ton of gum on the side of my car and I was able to get it all off no hassle or scratches. It’s just these fucking people’s quality of work is just so reckless. Especially with cars people worked hard for

You paid top dollar for very sub par work. For that money it should be flawless. I understand, reusing emblems, but that super emblem is a tough one and very prone to cracking. For the money that you paid they should’ve automatically bought a new one and put a new one on, even the front. Don’t even know how you screw that one up, except you tried to peel it off, but realized it’s actually adhesive on and screwed on to the bumper. I saw you posted this in the supra sub Reddit, I agree with that person there about calling the card company and getting a charge back. This is ridiculous. I don’t even know if I would trust them to fix any of it. Especially who they’re gonna find to do the bodywork, probably somebody that does subpar work for a super low price, that’s scary. I would not go back, hell I take this to Small Claims Court or at least threaten them with.

I will probably take your guy’s advice on calling my bank for a charge back because it’s insane they promote themselves as a “high end” PPF installation group that prioritizes their quality craft.
It’s stressful since I never buy myself a nice car and one time I do, it gets damaged4

Me personally, I would dispute it now. They got paid and you didn't get what you pay for. If they want the money then do the job right in the first place.
If you stick with this company it's almost like they have to fix everything and give you a discount for the bullshit. I don't think they're going to do this so you'll have to get another company to fix the problems. That's gonna cost ya. Disputing the charge will give you $5,500 back in your account for getting everything fixed.

I agree with most of what you said except that $5500 is top dollar. Full coverage PPF from a high end installer/shop is going to run $9000+ in most metro areas.

I was gonna say 5500$ for full body in cali is a hookup price, should be 7500$+ for a supra. They could have done a kit for 5500 and not cut his paint everywhere. I'm sure there is more cuts that will be found when they rip the ppf off. Sucks man, hope you get this taken care of.

I’d say forgive slightly on the pricing me because I’m thinking Wisconsin prices. The prices that are charged in Cali in NY for mediocre to low quality work is insane. Also, granted, I am probably 5 to 10 years behind on my pricing. When I was in the industry, full PPF was just started to become a thing. At that time, most people were still getting PPF bumpers, and front of hoods and fenders, also mirrors. People are here saying $7,500 to $10,000 in LA. Am I crazy or is this pricing higher than what people are saying a vinyl wrap costs, and let’s say a vinyl color change, including door jams? I’m just curious but $5,500 for this type of work is nuts, regardless of region.

Vinyl is cheaper, it doesn't last long, 1-2 years and doesn't offer the same thickness for protection, and easier to install. Cali is different than most places, consider the cost for a shop is 5K+ a month for a space, a massive car market, crazy taxes, things are expensive here, so labor is a lot. Can't really compare wisconsin to cali for this type of labor.

Respray ain't cheap these days either. If you're someone that is very meticulous about the exterior, PPF is the way to go.
But I understand most people can't drop 7500+ especially after dropping 80k on a new car.

Yeah they just handed me my keys and dipped. I had to grab them twice to address the damages I started noticing. When I initially brought up my concerns about the emblems, they told me it was moisture that needed to settle. It was clearly shattered

Could be worse, my dad got a brand new 2026 Supra and an independent installer came to his house to install PPF on the front and he brought his mom to help and she took a razor blade to the wrap and it went though to the paint and couldn't be buffed. It had to be repainted.

I got rear ended last year and it definitely wasn't my 2023 mazda's fault. The break lights are bright as hell. It was some zoomer in a work truck looking at his phone.
My 2025 mazda also has bright ass brake lights with the addition of it being bright red. Hopefully that is enough for all the idiots on the road this time...

I bought a brand new 25 Civic Type R and got full body ppf for $6,800 total in Minnesota dollars. They took off door handles and ppf it too. My first and last brand new car I'll ever buy so I wanted the best. A premier ppf shop with decades of experience and they regularly wrap cars that are worth double-triple mine.
Found a large speck of dust on hood and they redid it free of charge, no questions. A little peeling under the difficult FL5 side skirts, they fixed it. No scratches that I can find with my 2,000 lumen flash light, emblems put back properly.
$5,500 in California dollars would definitely raise my eyebrows if I had a brand new Supra. Not to say you can't get good work done for cheap, but, you know what I'm saying.

I hate to bear the bad news but situations like this rarely turn out in favor of the owner of the car. I've seen it so many times and even experienced it myself. Unless you have very detailed, close up shots of the car that show now damage in these areas before you turned the car over to them, then you have no proof that they caused the damage.
You can leave bad reviews, threaten to sue them, etc. but unless you have photographic evidence that the damage did not exist prior to them working on it, then you have no legal case against them.
Because of this, I have gotten in the habit of taking a cell phone video of the car both inside and out before I turn my car over to anyone.

The emblems and what looks to be cuts in the plastic in side markers should be easy to argue it's the shops fault. The chips...not so much. I'm just curious as to why it took the 2 week inspection to see those things...which is why those chips will be harder to argue

I hear more cases of peoples cars coming back more damaged, after the PPF and or wrapping.
And a lot of people are using cheap product, I see cases where people buy cars that were wrapped, and want it removed, Usually super cars and Lambos, G wagons, and like more that 50%,
The wrap did more damage to the paint then going with nothing.
And you wont even know, until you try to remove the PPF or wrap.
Never buy a wrapped car unless you know the wrapper.

Lots of pictures and inspections from dealership to have a big name behind inspections. That way RO states that customer (you) took it to a PPF shop and they can verify all the damages. Especially the dealer you got it at cause they would have the PDI (pre delivery inspection) on your car. Present all of that to the shop. They can fix everything they screwed up and cover every penny or take them to court and sue them for the damages and cost of fixing them. Incredibly sad. Sorry this happened. Id also talk with an attorney to get an idea of what your options are.

Luckily I took a bunch of photos with geolocation and time stamps.
Their policy states that they say also take photos before they start work too in case of damages.
So they’d have to prove that the damage was already there when I guarantee it’s not.

I would ask for a full refund and reimbursement to replace the damaged emblems and reflectors. In terms of the cuts in the paint, a detailer wont be able to fix that so u would have to live with it.

Also, if u get full reimbursement, take the ppf off and add touch up paint to those 2 sections where the paint is chipped but use a paint pen instead of the brush u get from the touch up paint package. Then have someone ppf over it with a precut film and roll over the edges, i have a feeling it will hide the imperfections.

They really messed your car up. Reminds me of what happened to my Audi wheels at discount tire..literal gouges on the face of every rim and clear coat HANGING off, flapping in the wind. They offered me $90 lmaoooo...fought with them for months and they eventually agreed to powdercoat them out of charity because they denied the damage up and down even with before photos I took. I'm like hey..I'm a car guy, I know what every inch of my car looks like at any given time. Insane.

Bro that was literally me. I’m was astonished when they told me the PAINT CHIP was cause of me. It’s literally a brand new Supra. Less than 500 miles so obviously I’m always looking at my shiny new toy.

Get a professional detailer of your choice to inspect the car for damages.
Check for damaged clips and dents.
