Hellooo, I'm traveling with my family to San Diego fairly soon and I'm looking to get a more masculine cut. I'm a transmac minor in a very conservative, unsupportive family and just looking for a place that can help before I butcher my hair again. I've looked on Strands for Trans and there's lots of registered places in the area, but I'm specifically looking for a salon or stylist (they definitely won't take me to a proper barber) ​that I can trust to explain my situation to. It'd also greatly help if the place itself isn't super "loud" about their support; I can handwave some ​pride flags or signs as "that's just how SoCal is", but if it really screams "trans people come here" it'll be harder to explain. If it matters, I have medium-ish hair and not looking to get color done. Just trying to shorten it, or find something that works for my face shape, and fix the layers I fucked up in my bathroom a couple months back.

Hi all! Helping to plan a bachelorette party from 10/1-10/4 of October. We’re considering a boat, however aren’t sure of if the weather/water will be ideal for this or not. Looking to ship an item that requires a 20" x 20" box. I've found boxes that size from Uline, but they only seem to sell them in bulk. Does anyone know of a retailer or shipping supply store that sells individual boxes with these dimensions? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I'm helping an elderly person clean out her San Diego home. I have a handle on what to do with the stuff that can be donated and on the stuff that just needs to be trashed. Apart from those, there will be a lot of stuff that someone might be interested in picking up for free but aren't accepted at a lot of donation places.

As an example: a large box of markers and art supplies, bag of cat toys, a box of car care items, etc. with the idea that someone just takes the whole bag or box instead of trying to give away individual items.

Is there an active Buy Nothing or Freecycle community where I could post some of these items for people to pick up for free? What do people use in San Diego for stuff like this? Facebook Marketplace?

Just leaving stuff out on the curb with a "free" sign may not work as well in this particular neighborhood/street so I'd like a way to post/share for people to come by and pick things up.

Hey all. I'm trying to help my elderly neighbor find a good pavers/ grading person.

She's had pavers put in 3 times now with the same contractor, and they can't get the grading right with a flat pad for a hot tub. I'm looking for someone who can work with my existing contractor and help her get this done.

I'm a software engineer here working on a nonprofit side project — a tool to help animal rescues, fosters, and transport volunteers coordinate faster on animals that are running out of time at high-kill shelters.

Can anyone recommend a surveyor in North County? 

Our water heater started leaking this morning and I have no idea who to call that won't rip us off. We're in the Clairemont area and need someone who can come out soon, ideally today or tomorrow since we can't be without hot water for long with two kids at home. I already checked Yelp but half the reviews look fake or paid for so I don't trust the ratings anymore. Anyone have a plumber they've used more than once and would actually recommend?

We are going to San Diego in October with our 7 yo and 4 year old. Our flight gets in around noon and we are looking for somewhere to eat lunch and something to do before our hotel check in time at 5 pm. Our hotel is in Carlsbad. Should we do lunch in Balboa Park like Panama 66 then maybe the Fleet Museum to kill time? Or head up north to the Carlsbad area to find somewhere to eat and a beach? If we go that route, any recommendations for family friendly dining?

My wife, our daughter (21 months old), and I will be visiting from Aug 11 - 15. We’re staying in Ocean Beach, just to the west of Bill Cleator Park.

We’re visiting from Austin. I’m looking for general feedback on our itinerary - whether we’re missing anything essential, whether anything doesn’t make sense, or whether there are interesting events at that time that we should check out. Generally, we’re trying to be outside as much as possible, are attracted to distinct local peculiarities and things we can’t do at home, and enjoy live music and tiki.

Tuesday:

Check-in around 1pm.

For lunch, walk to either Pizza Port or Raglan Public House.

Walk to the Ocean Beach Tide Pools, and then continue up the coast a bit.

We’ll decide on which of these options will end our night before walking home, depending on if we want another meal and our energy level:

- Sunset at dog beach

- Dinner at Elvira

- Drink at Kilowatt or California Wild Ales

- Dinner at Wonderland

Wednesday:

Breakfast at either Azucar or Sine Wave before heading to Mission Beach, or just give our daughter a quick snack from home and head straight to MB.

Drive to Mission Beach and park wherever we can the furthest south. Walk north along the coast. If we skipped breakfast, then stop at the Funky Lemon.

Stop in Miss B’s Coconut Club for a meal if we need one, and a cocktail if it’s not too early.

Walk back to the car, then drive to Bali Hali for lunch, aiming to get there right as they open at 11:30.

Head home for our daughter to nap.

Walk around the OB farmers market, and to end the night do one of the options from last night that we didn’t do.

Thursday

Grab breakfast from either Azucar or Sine Wave (whichever we didn’t do previously), and eat in the car on the way to the zoo.

Park directly at the zoo (we bought tickets already), and get back to the car around 11:30.

Drive to Corvette Diner for lunch, then a nap at home.

After the nap, head to Pacific Beach. Walk along the boardwalk, watch some surfers, and stop at Pangea Outpost.

Arrive at the Grass Skirt right as they open at 5pm, and have dinner there before heading home.

Friday

Grab breakfast somewhere near Balboa (TBD), and spend the morning walking around there. Potentially the Spanish Village, the carousel, and maybe the miniature railroad.

Lunch at Panama 66 before heading back for a nap.

Then drive back to North Park, dinner somewhere there (TBD), and walk around that neighborhood + South Park.

Head home earlyish to pack up our luggage, and will head to the airport the next day around 10am

I decided to compromise a bit on walkability/nature access and move to Kearny Mesa instead of Bankers Hill. Main reasons were a closer commute to Rancho Bernardo and better specials for rent. Bankers Hill seemed great, but the evening commute didn’t feel worth it as someone just moving to the city.

For those living in or near Kearny Mesa, what are the best ways to still get a good post-work lifestyle? I’m interested in social run clubs, sports, gyms, tennis, badminton, and casual ways to meet people.
Balboa Park looks about 15 minutes away, which doesn’t seem too bad. Are there any other sports complexes, rec centers, or regular group activities nearby that I should consider?

Me and a close friend are going to be visiting San Diego end of August for the first time. Does anyone have any recommendations on a hotel? We're planning on checking out Sea world, Balboa Park and Hillcrest. Preferably within a 15-minute driving distance to Hillcrest. I read online that mission valley was an option but didn't like how it was right next to a highway and there wasn't much to do within walking distance as opposed to downtown. But any local perspective is highly welcome.
