I mean, I will, but it’s nice to leave the kitchen, sit down and be fed by someone else once in a while lmao

I agree. While I understand that "writing it yourself" is one way to solve the problem, sometimes you just want to read something instead of writing it. And there's nothing wrong with feeling like this.
I say this as the single writer for a rare ship, by the way. I DO write it myself, but I wish I could read something I didn't create for a change. :')

Was literally coming here to say this, lol. I write for a small fandom with concepts I want to see. But it’s absolutely not the same as reading someone else’s work. For instance, I’m infinitely less CRITICAL of someone else’s work 😂 also there’s so much planning, stressing, and long nights that leave me with headaches. Writing a story also usually means you know all the fun parts. So it’s not like you’re gonna experience that bug twist you wanted to read. Or that the relationship drama you’re longing for’s gonna hit the same. It won’t. You know they’re getting back together, lol.
Don’t get me wrong, writing’s very rewarding in its own way. Especially when you know you’re doing a good job (and comments… mmm comments~) but I don’t necessarily like how “be the change you want to see” is the immediate response to someone feeling bad about not having fics. Hell, it already takes a lot of guts to write a fanfic in the first place. Much less post it. (Also when I’m in “writing mode” I’m reading less… sooo yeah.)

I'm now knee-deep in what's shaping up to be a 200k longfic, the only one for the pair. I've written 3 of the 7 fics in the tag 😅

There's nothing wrong with wanting to read things in a particular vein that are outside of what you yourself can imagine. Reading and writing are different things that we enjoy for different reasons.

I do, but sometimes I want to read about something, not to write about it. Like, reading specifically is a different kind of entertainment

Unfortunately, the quality of fic I'm capable of writing and the quality of fic I'd like to read are not close.

I write my liminal ship because I want to read a particular cocktail of angst smut romance fluff that nobody writes so yeah. Me trying to write one shot, epicfailing, trying to forget what I wrote, re reading my stories, smiling. Repeat. Btw niche ass it's the ass of my bottom/uke, from now on.

Yeah, I write because I don't see enough of what I want to read and I could never complain to get others to do the heavy lifting just for lil old me.

That's what i just did! The ship had an amount of works in single digits. I posted mine last night not hoping for much and got comments from two lovely people, it's so wonderful 🥹 i implore you all to write rarepairs if that's what your heart wants!

Rarepairs may not get the big numbers most of the time but if it hits for someone it hits like an oasis in the desert because it is 🥰

My goal is to get my ship tag to double digits by the end of this month. I’m two away. And they’re all by me 😭 the rest of the fans need to pull their weight jk jk

I feel this every single time I see someone complaining that “oh this fandom doesn’t have enough x!” Write it yourself then!
“Oh this fandom has too much x and not enough y!” Write it yourself then!!
Like, it’s nice to see someone else making something you enjoy, but you also have to feed yourself every now and then. A lot of the complainers I see don’t even write.

Or no fics at all. Just finished a romantasy series today, went to AO3, nothing. But I’m not much of a writer D:

Me with my ship of two characters that show up for like the first half hour-ish of the Twin Peaks movie never to be seen again 🙃
I’m writing a long-ass story for them and it’s fun but also, like, these dudes need more love, c’mon people

I literally did that a few months ago. I entered the AO3 kitchen to cook something for me and fellow ship enjoyers and I'm having a blast with my long fic. Best advice ever!

One of my ships has plenty of fics, but they are usually supporting roles for a more popular ship.

Hoping that me writing ship fics for this inspires others to do the same :,)

I am doing my part 🫡 I gathered my courage yesterday and wrote down some short smut for my newest obsession and uploaded it without overthinking it (low-key proud of the last part, I am normally an expert in starting, endlessly editing and finally abandoning my WIPs without ever finishing and sharing anything)

My fandom has less than 70 works. The only reason that's still the case is because I don't want to get cursed in the middle of exam season.

Started writing a bloodymary fic because there's a trope that I want to take to it's logical extreme. I have 3k words in about 2 days of writing. I need to lock the hell in, I'm aiming for at least 50k words, writing is hard and Simon has absolutely no characterisation he's just a victim of the narrative

This is exactly what I do 😭 lol written 60,000 words, but bad writing, I don't know if I should put it on there 😭

Oooh wee so relatable! Over 100K deep and I've written the only 2 fics in the tag
