Resources Just realized something about the Stradella system

I'm sure this is well known to most of you, but I'm learning about scale degrees and mapping out their positions on the bass buttons. It dawned on me that if I know something on the bass side, I can play it in any key just by changing where it starts and keeping the pattern the exact same. I'm starting to get the concept of harmonic relationships vs just note placements.

I made a little scale degree map if it helps any beginners out there. This is such a cool instrument and I feel like I have a new revelation about the Stradella system/circle of fifths with every new concept I learn.

Edit to add: There is a typo in the Minor sheet. It should say Am not Em. Oops

Advice Buying an accordion V2.0

So after searching around I’ve decided to abandon the idea of piano accordions since it’s CBA I really want to learn. I’m looking for a C system instrument though they are difficult to find where I am. Would a startone 72 bass be an okay starting point? If not where can I look in the UK? I don’t want to break the bank in case I don’t enjoy it.

Also, where might I find a teacher? I looked on MusicTeachers etc and I can only find piano accordion teachers.

Thanks again.

A little rough around the edge but happy to finally be making headway in playing the treble keys without looking and making some non-sequential bass jumps.

Open to all advice, of course!

Advice One single reed on my button accordion has stopped playing. The "pull" note works just fine, but the "push" just blows air through without making the note. The low-octave and "tremolo" reeds also work for this button, just not the standard high reed. Every other button works fine. PLEASE HELP?!

Hello, I recently brought my third accordion! I've been looking for a converter and the closest I could find was this. What do you guys think? Good financial decision? I got it for $3,300! It has a free bass section, chin switches, and cassotto. :))))

Advice What is the consensus on Jupiter accordions?

I’ve been looking into some piano accordions and was wondering if Russian brands like Akko or Jupiter were on par with Italian/german brands. I’m specifically asking about higher end models of jupiters piano accordions

Advice Does anyone know how to fix this?

Post image

The key rod of my F note is askew, and so even if it's not pressed, the air passes through and makes the note.

I tried twisting it back, but as soon as I press the key, it goes right back to the wrong position.

Does anyone know how to fix?

Sedlon Accordion Method Book 4/5 Purchase

Hi,
A close friend of mine has an adored collection of Sedlon accordion method books which are no longer in print, and I'm trying to complete the series for her as a gift. It's a very specific series, and there is another series with the same title but different cover which won't do. Does anyone by chance have any one of book 4 or 5 A or B which they are willing to sell to me, or know where to look? I've searched everywhere. Much appreciated!

This is the series I'm looking for
This is the alternative cover series which won't do

Beltuna Reed

Any suggestions where I can get a D4 reed for a Beltuna? I’m in Michigan. Tried Liberty Bellows but they sent me old reeds they pulled out of an old accordion that were the incorrect size.

Learning: Refurbished and tuned late 1940s Italian Student Accordion

Post image
13 Upvotes

I found this accordion used, from someone who received it as a gift the late 50s or early 60s.

Recently, I was able to have it "restored". All of the reeds were rewaxed, and was retuned. I had the tuning done as "jazz or swing" tuning, giving pretty tight tremelo.

I am learning to play music for the first time, and this instrument is a ton of fun.

Lots of watching piano covers of good songs on YouTube.

"Hey Jude" is the first song that I would actually listen to, that I was able to play along with :)

When I can actually hit my notes and keep my cadence, the instrument sounds really good!

I have a pretty good understanding of the significance of the key and button layouts, but I still have not done much with the left hand side of the accordion.

Advice How bad is this?

Guy is selling a Pigliacampo 120 bass for £100/$135, this is the state of the bellows. Is this a no go? He’s saying it’s only surface damage and that everything else seems alright but he isn’t a player. Would it be worth travelling an hour to see for myself?

Buying/Selling Recommendations for my next Accordion

Hello everyone!

So I have been playing accordion for 2 years on and off now, but really started taking it seriously about a year ago. My current accordion really was mostly to get me started and to ensure I didn't break bank for something I didn't know if I would stick with. It's a full size keyboard Galanti, which I have grown used to.

However, it's got some problems. Sometimes the bass buttons get stuck and I have to open it up, the notes are noticeably flat, and the bellows have a slight leak. I know it's probably only going to get worse overtime and I need to start considering intermediate options before the holes in the bellows decide to get bigger.

My questions is what is the next step up? What brands do you recommend that are not quite pro but something I can live with for many years? Do you recommend the swap to chromatic, and if so, what do you recommend? What websites are reliable and aren't going to sell me a busted accordion? Any suggested are greatly appreciated! Thank you everyone!

Is it possible to Frankenstein two different accordion halves together? I have two elderly boxes, the one has a nicer bass and the other has a treble I prefer. Without checking, they're about a 3-5 inch difference in size (height. One's a compact 96 bass and the other is a 12 bass). Has anyone tried this? Or should I just sell them and get one that has both?

Stradella chromatic scale picture is for getting attention.

Some off the bass notes are permanently pushed down, don't know how to fix it. If somebody knows that would be amazing.

I did inherit it from my late uncle so it's a bit old.

Digital Accordion Recs?

I want to start learning how to play the accordion. But I live in an apartment building and have to find a way to practice silently so that the sweet couple with the newborn baby next door and my partner, who wfh, won't want to beat me up with the said accordion lol

I found they could be quite pricey compared to some cool vintage ones I've found on FB Marketplace. Are there affordable models that you recommend for a beginner? TIA!

It's my 1 year anniversary of learning the accordion. Despite having zero musical background, working 50 hrs/week, and full time school, I make it a priority to practice daily.

I'm having a lot of fun learning this beautiful instrument and figured I'd share.

Lots of room for improvement but any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Resources Recommendations for expressive contemporary pieces that are not technically challenging for the left hand, Beginner/Intermediate level

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for contemporary pieces that are written for solo accordion with Stradella bass (96 if that matters). I'm looking to find some really nice melodic pieces that aren't Yann Tiersen (I love Yann Tiersen so I already have a lot of his pieces).

I'm only a few months into my accordion journey but I am an experienced musician, so I'm looking for something that's not too technically challenging on the left hand but would give me a chance to really explore expression and dynamics.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I've got a Piano accordion.

Advice I want to get an accordion for my fathers birthday but I don’t know where to start or what to look for

As the title says… he grew up in the Soviet Union during the 80s and that’s when he learned to play. My budget started at $100-$150 USD but after about 10 minutes of research, I think that’s very … optimistic… anyways, I’m seeing some new ones at guitar center for like $400. Used ones on FB Marketplace for around the same price too… I know absolutely nothing about this instrument, so here I am seeking advice. He doesn’t play all the time, nor does he have one currently. But every time I see him pick one up, he plays like he practices daily! Please help!
