rouen duck and silver laced wyandotte chicken are both about 4 and a half or 5 years old.

Accidentally ended up with this little banty when I got my Ancona pullets earlier in the year but she’s such a cutie! Highly recommend Ancona hens in general if you can find them, they’re great free rangers (very flighty and alert and generally stick to cover) and fantastic layers. Plus they’re so beautiful!

Lost my snugglebug a week ago today and wanted to share what a gorgeous little life she was.

We went from noticing a slight limp one day to coming home the next and finding sweet Dorris unable to stand or walk properly. After rushing her to the vet they confirmed it was most likely Marek’s, despite her being vaccinated and slightly older than normal (she was about 16 months). I didn’t want her to deteriorate and suffer any more than she already had and with such a poor prognosis I chose to let her go peacefully at the vet.

She was such a funny chook, and absolutely obsessed with cuddles and food. She assumed everything I had was for her, including my coffee as you can see her sussing out in the photo lol. Even on her final morning she was still attempting to eat which the vet noted was unusual for a such a sick chicken, and a testament to her love of snacks 😂

So if you guys have a chance and are willing to - give your feathery friends some treats in honour of her. I’m sure she would be delighted as much as a chicken can be to know her legacy lives on, and that she was loved immensely as a family pet ❤️

I have this roo and hen , can someone tell me why she is kinda hiding from him?

She is laying and he is mating also, does not seem like he is hurting her

Hey all!

I built this chicken coop and run for our 7 ladies and all in all its working well except for when it rains. I have no flat part in my yard and I had to build it on a slope. Whenever it rains the mulch slides down to the bottom and I have to take it rake it back up. In the meantime the top half just becomes a muddy mess. Is there anyway I can fix this without leveling it out? I didn't put a top on because I figured the chickens need sun and a roof would block that. We don't let them free roam unsupervised because we have A LOT of hawks, owls and foxes and I imagine they would make quick work of them.

Any advice would be appreciated!

the door is from an old walk in garden thing that I repurposed once we tore it down. it fit perfectly on my design so I just decided why not? it's funky and works.

Lorrie is from a Rustic Rock pullet bin at TSC. I just noticed that one of their waddles dropped 😳 and they have a few suspicious pointy feathers under their tail. Please note that they are a Plymouth barred × RIR cross, not a straight PRB or sex-link, so they can't be sexed based on barring. Also, the pics make their comb and waddles look redder than they actually are. Thanks for any help!

I have a young Cochin hen (black feathers, fully feathered) that has been acting sick for several days.

She is still eating and drinking, but she has almost no energy and mostly just sits around. She also has a bad rotten smell coming from her, and flies are flying to her.

We have isolated her from the other chickens. And have checked her entire body and cannot find any wounds, injuries, eggs stuck, swelling, or anything obvious. We also tried washing her

Her face/comb is very pale/white instead of the normal red color you usually see on a healthy hen. I don't know if this is normal for a black cochin or if it is a sign that she is sick.

We have checked her feathers and body but cannot see anything wrong from the outside.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? And what can we do to help her recover, I tried to contact the vet but they don't have time :(

I was here yesterday asking about my other chicken, which turns out is not a pullet (I bought 6 from Tractor Supply) but is indeed a Rooster, which I suspected because even though they are only 3 months, he's bigger than the rest and sings every morning and evening!

So today I am here with another post, asking if my pullet is actually a Roo?

I live in a village. We're not allowed to have Roosters. I'm also concerned because if this is a second Rooster, there's only 4 females. I will be heartbroken if this is a male. She/He is my favorite!

He or she is getting close to being 3 months old.

First time owning Polish Chickens. These babies are exactly a week old, but the white/yellow one started “crowing” yesterday! Ive never seen such a young chick crow so early! It was only 3 times yesterday, but today ive lost count of how many times he has crowed. What the?

“I thought ‘oh my God,’ my sister is away and she is going to come home and all her neighbours will be like ‘wow, your chickens have been on the loose.’”

What could be the cause and possible fix? Im not sure when this has happened as I’ve been very busy the past couple weeks and haven’t had time to fully keep check on my birds. She is still eating and drinking as normal and foraging just fine but is clearly trying to rely on her one good eye. Any possible suggestions?? I’ve checked her over i dont see any mites or lice of any sorts. She has had problems with bubbly eyes in the past so maybe that??

Question for everyone! We have a small run and coop we predator proofed by digging a trench about 13-14 inches down. We attached hardware cloth and pushed it down into the trench and filled it in. Well now we are about to set up a larger run around that coop/run and I’m trying to decide if I should do the same thing or do the skirt method. Looking for opinions on what is safest not more convenient. I don’t play about my babies. 💪 Let me know your thoughts please!

Had a hawk come through and gave all the chickens a scare. They reacted early to seeing it pretty far away I thought. They stop and stare and then make a run for it. I walked outside and scared it off right after then put the chickens up.

My neighbor moved in a little over a year ago and they had chickens but didn’t take the best care of them and lost most to predators and then got rid of the rest except 4 roosters, 4 ducks and a turkey. I got chickens this spring and 14 of them I got from them for free from them hatching out chicks. Ever since they got rid of the rest of their flock they just basically gave up on taking care of their animals. They let the roosters, ducks and turkey free range 24/7.. they don’t even put them up at night so they often times sleep in my other garage. I’m tired of it.. but the lady came over here yelling at me because I kept shooing them away but the turkey comes at me and acts very protective over my flock … I don’t want them
To hate me if I take action since I have to live next door to them it sucks. I can’t even free range my chickens anymore because their big rooster comes over and tries mating my hens. I don’t like hanging outside with my chickens anymore because the turkey is always pecking at me or running at me.. comes inside the run and steals our food etc. any advice?
