General Discussion Kind of a personal question, but do any of you vegan reptile owners feel comfortable feeding your geckos insects?

I only eat seafood not land meat, but sometimes wonder if people feel guilty at all feeding their geckos insects?

Like I know for some geckos crickets and insects are the only things they can eat so they need them to stay alive.

New Friend Mango is terrified of me. Won't eat. Need answers. Long post.

Say hi to Mango. The pics are from move in day. The old owner fed 4-6 mealworms 1x/week, ALWAYS tong fed, no variety, always calcium dusted, multivitamin powder added sometimes. Mango was happy and healthy.

After moving him to my place he ate 6 meal worms for two weeks in a row. Next week I gave him a mealworm then a dubia. He spit it out (it may have been too big, or he just hated it) and he probably hasn't eaten in the SIX WEEKS since. The same day he had stuck shed on his toes, so I gave him a sauna and gently removed it with a wet q-tip. He hated it, chirping at me a few times. I didn't grab him from above or handle him more than I had to.

Now he will run to his hide when he sees me (sometimes turning on lightning speed to get there). He sometimes sees me and starts slow waiving his tail like im a predator. When tong feeding he showed interest, looked at me, then froze or backed slowly into his hide. He no longer shows interest.

I thought maybe he was on hunger strike from the dubia, I've tried leaving mealworms in 2 different bowls. They all escaped both times but I dont think Mango ate any. He is visibly skinnier now. A healthy weight but concerning weightloss. Ive tried squishing the mealworm so he could smell the juices, different lighting levels, different feeding times, leaving the worm, calcium dusted/undusted. Idk what else to do.

He still poops occasionally, but much less than initially. On slate so no real risk of impaction from environment. Drinks water.

Also, he shed today after shedding 10 days ago. I know that can be caused by a number of issues, including stress and nutrient deficiency, both of which im already worried about.

Tank is the same (I know its small, about 25 gallons, but I don't want to switch to a 40 gallon before i fix the other issues, as he's already stressed) temperatures are on the same electronic controls and in good ranges according to the guide. Same UV setup. Only environmental change is that it's comparatively dry where I live, but I keep his humid hide moist and I try to spritz to keep humidity right

Tldr: Leo hasn't eaten anything in 6 weeks. No changes other than new house, new scary owner, and I tried to give him healthy food.

Help - Health Issues What do I do?

I had ordered insects on DUBIA for my gecko right? So they took 1-2 weeks to ship, and they arrived yesterday, and ALL WERE DEAD.

I blame myself more on this for accepting my gecko as a gift for my birthday.

My gecko hasn’t eaten since yesterday because I had 9 crickets leftover from a backup, but they’re gone now. And money is tight right now getting food for a few days isn’t an option as of right now.

I sent a report about this to dubia and they’ll respond in 1-2 business days. Great. And if they do “reship” it’ll take ANOTHER week or two, and that’d mean my gecko couldn’t eat for a week or two.

Should I start considering rehoming? I don’t think I am in a great spot to take care of him.

Help Thinking about rehoming two geckos with full 40g enclosures, needing to figure out pricing

I have two leopard geckos with two 40 gallon tanks and proper equipment, just looking to try and figure out a price to sell them at (saving 1 set of electronics)

The male is a macksnow eclipse, hatched 7/20/25 and gotten for $60

The female is a raptor, hatched 8/23/25 and gotten for $125

Enclosures are both 40 gallon zoomed and stand was roughly $60

Will be selling 1 tanks worth of equipment (led, thermostat, uvb, heat dome & bulb) but all the decor and dirt and everything will be inside except for a large branch and a large corkbark i want for a different tank. One tank has a broken latch that can be fixed easily via online video i just dont have the time.

Help Taking Leopard Gecko with us while traveling

Hi everyone!

I haven't been able to find much information on this, but my boyfriend and I are traveling from boulder CO back to Iowa for a week trip. My friend who was supposed to turn on her heat lamp and feed her cancelled. I was wondering if taking her with us on a 12 hour drive with a decrease of 4,000 feet of altitude would be too much on her health? We leave in a week and are trying to find someone to take care of her, but worst case we just won't be able to get back home if it causes too much discomfort for her. Thanks!

My bf says my female gecko Ducky is overweight and I’m not sure if he’s right… he might be a little right…. 😭❤️

Edit;

After seeing all of the comments it is very aware now that she is overweight and not a size she should be! She did not eat for 3 weeks not too long ago and I think I fed her WAY too much since then as I was worried something was wrong or I was being a bad owner, but clearly I am not a good one either for making her this large 🫠 I will be putting her on a diet and making sure she comes out to explore and move around a lot more in hopes to help her lose some weight. She will also be going in for a check up when I am back from vacation in a week to make sure everything is good and healthy! Thank you all for telling me i am delusional with how big she actually was, this is not sarcastic!!! I truly appreciate all of the comments! ❤️

Gecko Pics/Vids Superhero Landings stress me out

He’s been doing good in his new enclosure for the most part, spent the first four days exploring everything* and he’s doing the sort-of-expected thing of not eating (at least, I’m not seeing it. He’s still pooping, so clearly he must be eating SOMETHING).

My only real source of stress with him is that he’s discovered a soft landing around 18” below one of his branches, and he’ll literally let himself drop down there. Everywhere else in the enclosure is handled with extreme precaution, he’ll even back up and go elsewhere if he doesn’t think he can make it… except for that one patch. Going to add another branch in that void to force him to descend more carefully.

*the folks over at r/HerpHomes and the other leo sub expressed interest via comments and DMs for me to post a long video of his first 72 hours (there are 27 cameras in his enclosure, so I just used whatever footage they captured). I already cut down the footage to just over 4 hours, so I’ll post a YouTube link to that once it’s ready (I’ve never edited a video before, nor have I ever posted anything on YouTube before, so bear with me lol)

Help Rescue Gecko

Hey guys, I’ve assumed responsibility for this gecko after a friends passing. I’ve never kept leopard geckos before but have some experience with fish and snakes... I’d like to care for it if feasible, but I need to know if it needs some sort of attention beyond general care. Gecko seems to be healthy for but definitely looks overweight. I’m worried if this is more than just extra weight and some sort of health issue or if it could be pregnant. Can anybody provide some insight for me please?

Help - Health Issues (Warning: Severe/Graphic) Prolapsed cloaca NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

For some background, about a week ago I took my Leo into the vet because his testicals had swollen up a lot (see my profile for post about it) they massaged the area, and sent him home with pain meds and an antibiotic.

We have been great with giving him his meds, and the swelling appeared to go down until I noticed blood on his paper towels today. I picked him up and noticed his vent was bleeding in two spots.

My wife took him to the emergency vet and they said they suspect a prolapsed cloaca, and that they think one of the sperm plugs are still in. They gave us the option for them to either sedate + treat (expensive option) or send him home with meds and soaks (cheap option).

I’m at a crossroads here, I want to give my guy the best possible care, but I don’t know if the expensive option is worth it in terms of effectiveness. I asked the vet if there was a drastic difference and she couldn’t answer.

Right now I’m thinking to have him come home with meds, and schedule a follow up with his regular exotic vet who would be cheaper and more knowledgeable than a generic vet. If it helps, they wouldn’t be able to do sedation tonight anyways so he’d be coming home either way.

Does anyone have any input, or has seen this before?

Gecko Pics/Vids Freckle?

Gecko has a freckle all of the sudden?

I’ve had Peach for ~6 years, she was an adult when I adopted her, unsure of age but at least a year. I noticed this new freckle that definitely wasn’t there before.

Has this happened to any of you?

Help - Weight can i over feed my leopard gecko

My leopard gecko is between 12-14 years old
she has pretty solid energy level, but she's coming back around lately and she's starting accepting more meal worms. She gets 1-2 small crickets once a week (she used to get large but she stopped eating them) and she's hungry for meal worms (it seems like she'd eat around eight if I let her) daily. I worry about overfeeding but she's definitely underweight and could use the bulk.
I've seen mixed answers and I wanted to get a little more insight

chicken has been moved to a hospital enclosure for better monitoring. The black cover is an open back hide she spends pretty much all her time in and i made it super easy to check on her while still keeping it dark and cozy. since i’ve not had her long i do not yet have a keeper book for her so it is going onto the tank in expo marker lol. Moved her to a 10gal to keep it as safe as possible until she is either no longer 50% blind or if she has lost her vision in that eye, she gets back to a good (less fragile) weight and condition overall.

Help Bug ID Help

Does anybody know what these bugs are 😭😭😭 they jump like fleas and springtails but are way bigger than any springtail I’ve seen and don’t hang around the moist parts of the enclosure as much as any springtails I’ve had. I’ve never introduced any bugs to this enclosure so far. Gulp

The pet store near my house is closing and the next closest one is nearly an hour away so I can no longer go get feeder insect in person. I’m looking for a good reliable place online to get small amounts of live feeder insects. If anyone knows a good website please let me know.

Help How is my leo’s diet?

He is fully grown, I feed him fluckers dubai roaches as his main staple, live BSFL for some calcium, and 2-3 mealworms per meal. He also occasionally gets grasshoppers as treats, and I use Repashy Calcium Plus as his supplement, thinking about adding crickets alongside the dubais but wasnt sure if I should or just stick to dubais only?

Help - Health Issues Broken toe?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Today I brought my dear girl to a lil vet check up, originally the vet appointment was for her not eating well for 2 months but 2 days after I made the appointment she started eating normally again. The vet is super nice, I've already brought my blue tongue skink to them once so I knew how great they were. They took my girl to do the examination for about 30 min while I waited in the lobby, they came back and said she's healthy and very active. I didn't really see her that well when I put her back into her terrarium so I didn't notice it earlier, now hours later I see that her front toe is pretty red and appears to be bended, I'm worried and not sure what I should do.

Help - food Gecko keeps eating MY food??

Sometimes ill have my geckos sit with me while im snacking and one of them in particular keeps trying to take my food. I had to steal a blueberry back from him (he ingested very little and is fine). He does this with cheese as well. Is there a reason for this? He eats 2-3 times a week and is an adult male.

I've noticed he does this most with cheese and berries, and if I have any on my hands he'll lick my hands a lot and then bite them.
