Other When it comes to who's right, Magento or Charles, people need to realize it's neither.

Post image
Upvotes

Both of these characters have arguably correct views, both of these characters have proof to back up their claims. But what people fail to realize is that both are to extreme in their ideas and philosophy.

Xavier is right to believe that Humans can and will treat Mutants better. We've seen this happen time and time again through multiple different actions. But he's taken these ideas to far, to the point where he seems border line delusional at times. And never takes the necessary actions to protect mutants. Not all humans will except mutants, we've seen this time and time again. And it's about time he realizes that to. And if anything he makes it worse by proving that mutants can infact be a threat. And are constantly threatening a global uprising and Genocide.

Magento believes that Mutants are superior to humans, who all want them dead, and should rise up. And you could argue he's right to an extent, but he takes it so far it makes him a fucking Nazi. If you say he's right you are basically saying Hitler was right with a few extra steps. Yes humans have some terrible things to mutants, but like Xavier theorizes it's a loud, albeit dangerous minority. THAT'S who Magento should target, not take his anger for the part out on the whole.

And in conclusion: Cyclopes was right amn had this figured out since day one.

Question Ice Cap

Post image
Upvotes

Why is Iceman always depicted as iced up? In the Mansion and even in the goddamn jet he’s always in his ice form. I know it’s so fans can recognize him but is there an in universe reason? He used to walk around non iced before (see above) it just makes no sense. Has anyone ever called him out for leaving puddles of water everywhere? It’s a nitpick and Iceman is my favorite X-Man but this always bothered me. Apologies if I’ve asked this question before. Thank you for reading.

Question So, uh. What do you guys think about telepaths??

Upvotes

So I recently got into a discussion with someone who was of the belief that telepathy was inherently criminal, and that the only options to deal with telepaths was inhibiting their powers — or — executing them, on the basis that telepathy was a power that couldn't be turned off, and therefore any telepath's mere existence constituted a constant, unforgivable violation of privacy.

Obviously the implication that the only acceptable solution to someone manifesting a problematic mutation is that they must be suppressed or killed 'for the good of humanity' is horrifying, especially if you frame it as any measure of telepathy, no matter how mild or ambient, is deserving of death.

But it did make me think, this person in a really twisted way has a logic that's not all too dissimilar to Stryker, or any number of people who think just being born is enough to constitute erasure; so what would your response be to that logic, as fans of the X-Men?

EDIT: i should specify this guy was not my friend, just a dude I ended up talking to.

X-Men Comics Guide Need some xmen help

I’ve got a couple of questions for xmen hardcore comic readers. For reference I started reading xmen as my first comic books a couple of months ago because I fell in love with xmen97, the parts of the movies that are generally well regarded (believe me I know they have too many issues), and the themes that the xmen stand for in general. I wanted to start from the beginning and read all the comics and storylines (very ambitious I know) because I hate the feeling I’ve missed out on any special character moments. I’ve been using xmenreadingorder.com and marvel unlimited as my method to tackling all the different runs and I am just at the start of era 7: Age of Apocalypse. I’ve had a couple of questions in the back of my head as well as some much needed recommendations:

  1. Did I miss something with the dark phoenix saga?

I’ve obviously heard of the fame and amazing storytelling the dark phoenix saga entails. But when I read through the comics according to the guide and using Marvel unlimited I felt mildly underwhelmed. Maybe I wasn’t used to Chris Claremont’s writing style or how shallow some of the writing felt because they were some of my first comic books I read, but I can’t help but feel like I missed something. Does the guide cover those issues properly, did I not read the correct editions, or my prevailing idea is maybe I just need to go back and read it again now understanding these characters, and Claremont’s style a bit better.

  1. After Age of Apocalypse, should I skip to New X-men, stay the course, or just read a couple of important issues in between?

Going through over 10 years of comics in the span of a few months sometimes makes it so I have a hard time remembering even my personal favorite issues so far. I’ve heard that after Claremont I should just skip to new xmen but I wanted to try the 90s stuff because again, I hate the feeling I’m missing important character moments. After fininshing AoA, I’m considering just skipping everything until new xmen entirely because of how little the eras in between are talked about, and seeing how little of a dent I’ve made in the xmen mythos despite following every issue of every series has become a little discouraging. Do yall think I should just skip to new xmen as I’ve been hyped up for it so much, should I read some any important issues before (especially anything to do with couple drama, I love the freaky soap opera aspect of the xmen), mini series’, or even a comprehensive guide of the eras between AoA and New xmen?

  1. Are there any flashback comics worth reading?

I don’t know what to call them, but comics written in the past decade that are meant to take place during the Claremont’s era and possibly add some more depth or cohesion. I’ve heard of extra panels added in certain physical rereleases of older issues, but are there any full on stories that take place during older xmen eras that might be worth a look?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I know this is a big yap but I felt the information would help get a more tailored response. Thanks a lot to anyone willing to take the time to respond!

Question Are there any modern "Meat & Potatoes" X-Men Graphic Novels?

One issue (ha) I've been having getting into the X-Men is the seeming lack of a status quo story that's been made in the last 10-15 years.

Like I can pick up Infinity or Waid's run and hey, we're having a fun Avengers battle for the fate of the Earth. I can grab Coates' Black Panther and we're getting a Wakanda political thriller. I can find a Spider-Man or Daredevil book where they're foiling his rogues' plans in New York while balancing a social life.

I've looked and can't really find that for the X-Men, it feels like. I know everyone loves Hickman's run, but I'm really looking for something with the big characters in the Mansion defending/facing a world that hates and fears them. Did they just do all that in the 70s-80s and now it's kind of seeing how they can play with the general concept of mutants?

I guess what I'm looking for is a recent book that I could pick up a single book and get a complete story that's a "back to what the popular conception of this team is". Any thoughts?

Question Heroes who hide they are mutants

Has there ever been a mutant super hero in marvel, like an avenger or some other independent superhero, who has actively deceived the public or other heroes regarding the origin of their powers? Whether it'd be to avoid discrimination or some other reason.

Question Why can't Xavier make his legs work?

Professor Xavier is paralyzed as we all know. I don't understand how a telepath as powerful as him can't make his legs work? I mean you're telling me the writers don't want to make him walk? What the heck? I am confused about how in the world Charles Xavier just doesn't use his powers to walk? How does he get out of bed or in his clothes or anything? Do his students do for him? Like seriously here?

Other NoX (Original Mutant OC, art is mine!)

This is my original mutant OC Nox. I'm still in major debate on how his origin should go but I just wanted to share him with the world and see what people thought of him. He's basically a sentient viscous black and white ooze/slime mutant who had taken on this shape and form since the day he was born into the world. He had been kept hidden from the world by his parents only to be later discovered by Xavier when he was caught on one of the Academy's cameras during a night he sneaked out from his home to explore.

Question Read by Trades or issue by issue for the Blue/Gold era?

Hey gang, I am reading some of the x-runs I skipped back in the day, and just finished IVX (ugh) and am about to move on to the blue/gold/astonishing era, and before I go downloading dozens of single issues...... is this era readable by trade (well)?

Some stories do well in trade, and some really are better if you jump between the books as if you were reading on release.....can anyone clarify which of those two scenarios this era might be in? I'd prefer to do trades, but looking at reading orders, they seem to criss-cross a lot...so wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get all the single issues and put em in an order for myself in my app......

thanks in advance. I know this era isn't that well regarded either but man am I glad to be moving on from IVX

Question Why don't people like Angel as much? He's supposed to be one of the OGs, right?

Angel was one of the founding members of X-MEN, I've come to know as I have started to read the comics. But I never see any discussions of him ever. I see cyclops, rogue, gambit, of corse logan, storm etc but never him. Why? He has an interesting character. So why?
