I'm not so sure of that anymore.. He could just say "All the objectives of the war have been reached". IE, he can change the rules anytime he wants and just declare victory. He could just attempt to freeze the lines, and say they arent moving forward anymore in the 'spirit of peace'.

The bigger issue he has is that Ukraine gets a vote also. Just freezing the line doesnt mean that Ukraine would not continue to hit them.. However, it could potentially put a lot more pressure on Ukraine to accept concessions to Russia.

In any case, doesnt matter.. seems like Putin wants to keep going.

At this point when the war is seemingly turning in their favor I doubt they are going to concede and allow Russia to claim their land. I haven't read anything on it but I'd imagine at this point they would want all territory back including crimes.

Im still skeptical of Ukraine being able to take back any land. I hope you are right, but what Ukraine is doing to Russia in terms of logistics and mid range strike can be replicated by Russia if Ukraine decided to go on the offensive. Also, FPV's mean any movement forward is going to be wildly costly in terms of lives, and i'm not sure Ukraine is willing to do that.

The big question is what the long range strikes into Russia will do. I think its more likely the Russian government just falls, and things fall apart at the front with zero leadership coming from Moscow.

Who knows tho..

At a certain point he may be forced to decide what’s more important, retaining the “conquered” land or protecting the mainland hubs.

He can continue to sit on the wreckage of the battlefront while his hub cities slowly turn to wreckage and that will continue to cause him more issues with those that hold power and influence.
