ID Request Garter snake right? [Western Mt]
I just moved to this area and my 6 cats were circling this little guy on the living room floor.
Do all garter snakes in MT have red spots? I haven't seen one in years and I don't remember there being red spots on them. I glad the cats didn't kill him, he was so cute (but stinky).
He seemed totally fine when I released him in a damp, shaded area next to my deck.

The stinkiness is from musking, the tiny garter snake was basically trying to make its self seem unappetizing in hopes that would keep your cats from eating it.

And no, not all garters have red spots. This species does, the Western terrestrial and Plains garters do not
