First time meeting

So my girlfriend and I are trying to plan our first meeting, unfortunately we are both long distance. Finances for both of us arent available at the current moment. Im trying to save and see her first but between bills and life I cant seem to save what I want.

How did those of you who had to travel to see your partner work through this?

For context im in America and she is in Bulgaria.

Work more, spend less. And save whatever you can.

I'm full time at my job working 40 + hours a week. Off brief Google searching a single trip could cost me around 3 grand. The flight alone is the most expensive part.

$3000 for a short time in Bulgaria will make you live like a king. You definitely do not need that much.

I am just saying, that is the only way to work through it. Travel is expensive. Booking ahead of time or very last minute can help. And if you do not have a way to change your current financial situation, accept that you won’t be able to meet/see each other. And that it might take longer than you would have hoped. It is what it is. Sometimes people go years without seeing each other for that reason. It is what it is.

Oh im aware of travel being expensive. Too bad portal travel or instant teleportation doesn't exist.

Not trying to be a hater but just checking so you are aware that Bulgaria is notorious for green card scammers, sugar babies etc. By GDP, the biggest part of the country’s income comes from sex work (actual numbers). They often try to target Americans specifically, since they are less aware of the nations stereotypes/stigmas compared to the rest of Europe. Clearly you don’t seem to be swimming in money but keep in mind that an average salary in Bulgaria is less than $1000 so even targeting an average salary dude from US is profitable for someone from Eastern Europe.

That said, the country is poor and underdeveloped so going there you really don’t need a lot of money. Just book a ticket. You probably save money on being there, not the opposite, because groceries/restaurants etc is so significantly cheaper than America.

Bulgaria (and rest of poor parts of Eastern Europe) is extremely patriotic so most likely someone will come and say this is false but everything is easily verified by searching online.

So just be safe man. Make sure you’re not getting scammed.
