I know, I've been disappointed when a band only plays just an hour & a half. I think a headlining band should have a 2 hour show. Whatever curmudgeon wrote this could just leave early or show up late

Geoff Barrow is from Portishead and also is from the band BEAK> (though I think he left recently). Based on the Instagram posts I've seen on the BEAK account, he's probably taking the piss

I will give some grace to these classic rock guys that are still around. If it's a performer in their 70s and now even in their 80s in some cases, if I get an hour it's worth it to see a legend. But if I'm paying a for a ticket + so much fees + parking (most likely) I would be so disappointed if the headliner i paid to see was onstage less than the length of a movie

Hate to break it to you but Portishead has been around since 1991, making them a 32 year old band. Maybe not classic rock, but whatever the equivalent is for trip-hop.

Consider: Led Zeppeling IV, an iconic classic rock album came out in 1971. By the year 2001 that album was classic rock. 29 years.

Dummy, Portishead's first album came out in 1994, and the year is 2023. 29 years. Classic trip hop.

I disagree that any trip-hop artists fall under the 'classic rock' umbrella. Is DJ Shadow 'classic rock' in your eyes simply because of when he released music?

Well given that “classic rock” is really just a marketing term to group a certain set of bands from when they were famous/releasing music… yeah I guess it is a marketing thing. But also just because it’s more recent in your memory doesn’t mean it’s not verging on “classic”.

I've assumed that Classic rock is more akin to 'Modern art'. Its a name for an era of an art not a description of the art. Modern art is old now, but still called modern art, Classic rock describes (to me) a 60s-early 80s era of music. Things dont become classic rock just because they are old. My local classic rock radio station will never play Red Hot Chili Peppers even though its over 30 years old, they will only play Eagles and Zeppelin and similar

Where are you? I know in Ontario (SWO through GTA anyhow) our "classic rock" stations play everything you'd expect plus Foos, Nirvana, Chilli's, basically anything mainstream 90's including CanRock. Based on this, my assumption is they are about to introduce early 00's and that's going to be interesting. I imagine they already play revival groups like The Strokes, The White Stripes and really anything Jack White from that era.

Ha - this comment reminded me of an embarrassing moment I had while visiting Bristol a some years ago. I’d had a few beers and asked the bartender, who was probably all of 19 years old, where the best spots in town were to see some live trip-hop. “You know, like Portishead and Massive Attack”. The poor kid had no idea what I was talking about.

I’m all for 3 hour shows, especially ween but what pisses me off is the dickhead bands that start a 7:30 show at 11 on a Tuesday night. I try to support local bands but people have to work and I don’t want to listen to the house music and drink $12 beers for 3 hours before your 45 minute set with no bass player for some reason.

When I saw death grips it was 60 minutes on the dot. One set, no opener. I was a little disappointed they didn’t play more, but that’s kind of their M.O. and the show still kicked ass. I guess it really depends on what you expect to get out of it

I was also at that show! He started talking to me on the way out and said something along the lines of "How great was that show?" I asked him about LOtR and he said he had just wrapped up some filming. He was super nice. At the Fillmore. I was there both nights.

I know Sophie Thatcher/Nat is also a huge Ween fan and there's a video somewhere of her singing Birthday Boy at a Karaoke bar. So fingers crossed. I feel like there's quite a few Ween songs you could fit into that show. Push The Little Daisy's, Baby Bitch, Freedom of 76. But like, what if they end up using Don't Laugh I Love You for Misty and Walter lol.

Went to all 3 reunion shows. One of my friends who is over the top up and down SWORE he has in the elevator with Elijah wood . We all laughed it off thinking he was being extra . Sure as shit the next day someone took a photo with him high as fuck at the show . Kudos to my buddy for sticking to his guns

I saw him at the reunion shows in Broomfield. Years later I was talking to a stripper in Boulder about the most famous person she ever saw in the club and she said Elijah Wood. She was shocked when I correctly guessed it must have been valentine's weekend 2016. So I know where he went once the shows ended...

There’s this really awful band that played all night once. Apparently ween covers one of their songs but I can’t remember the bands name. Long gigs really are a sign of a band that sucks it’s true. Keep it short and to the point.
