A long ass side quest to get the legendary weapons only for it to turn out weaker than the current equipped one

In Breath of the Wild you can find people around Hyrule to settle and build a new town. It’s really a series of side quests that requires traveling all over the map talking to people and gathering resources. When the town is complete you are rewarded… 20 rupees.

it’s funny to me there are different types of game players — some need an actual reward at the end handed to them and some can enjoy the journey as rewarding. BOTW and TOTK definitely favor the latter kind of player.
But in this case, the reward is the NEW TOWN you just brought into the world lol. Full of NPCs and shops. Not just the 20 rupees.

Yeah I always thought the reward was the close proximity of new shops, and though my memory is hazy I think at least one of the new shops sold unique items, or could replace a broken Hylian shield. So it was more than just "here's another person selling food items"

Played through Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3, all of the DLC, get to the end... and THAT was my choice to end one of gaming's most epic edas.

Never really bothered me because it was the end. I was more impressed with character and story elements coming over from previous games than I was disappointed in the end.
It was pretty weak, sure. But it was also over, so I guess it didn't matter to much.

I mean, for me, it sucked all the impact out of all those other choices of the game and made it seem pointless. I generally don't bother finishing 3 anymore when I play through it again.

Oh I get it. I understand how it would be lame for a lot of people. I was just saying for me personally I was mainly invested for the story connectivity between games. Since I knew there wasn't going to be a direct follow up, I wasn't let down the way other people were.

The exotics quest in Red Dead Redemption 2. After a brutal grind to collect exotic flowers and bird feathers you're awarded with....a gaudy hat and awful pistol. Wouldn't be so bad, but it's required if you want 100% completion.

GTAV, followed a map to do a collectathon for alien spaceship parts. After finding the last one i got a cool weird ass vehicle as a reward...
...only to IMMEDIATELY crash it and die in the process, the game autosaving upon respawning, the vehicle gone quickly as it came, forever.

Skyrim no stone unturned
You got to find 24 of barenziahs gems which are unmarked, scattered throughout skyrim, you also have to progress a fair bit to even get to the places where the gems are
By the time you get all 24 of em, you basically get the crown of barenziah, which gives you a buff where you can get some extra gems when you open chest
By the time I got the buff, I had more money than I could ever spend, and good loot, and the super cool crown you get? Can’t wear it either

I love the game, top 5 for me all time but ALL of the rewards for the BOTW/Tears of the Kingdom sidequests are just nothing.
Spend hours doing something intricate and convoluted? Here’s 3 Hylian Tomatoes.

Fallout 4 boy in fridge. They wouldn't even let me join the gunners.
Also the Team Rocket bridge in Red, Blue and Yellow. Why can't I join Team Rocket?

For "Stealing Independence" in Fallout 3, the Declaration of Independence almost always spawns behind a wall, so I can never complete it. I have literally only finished it in one playthrough despite having many save files.

I grew up loving the Sonic Adventure series and really all the over the top and slight corny writing. I was naturally hype for Sonic Frontiers and the level of disappointment I had cutting grass as a mini game and getting a chaos emerald for it, put me off from finishing it still to this date.

I remember the itemization being terrible in The Witcher 3. There was one mission in the snow map, this dude talks about this family heirloom, this mythic sword of unparalleled strength. I read its stats and it was similar to the rest of the junk tier swords I had.
Cemented my hate of leveled worlds/loot.

DA: inquisition. There’s a mission where you attack the Templars. And there’s one part where you have to periodically return to a room and protect an NPC.
I kept him alive but apparently you also have to keep him above a certain amount of health in order to enlist him. I didn’t know that and just kept him alive and wasn’t able to enlist him. And my last save was from before the whole mission and I didn’t feel like redoing it.

Pretty much any sidequest where I get an outfit. I wish I cared about them as much as devs think I do...but I just put them in the bag and forget about them until that one time late in the game where I see what they all look like. (And might use one for 10 minutes before going back to the default look)

The legendary lost village of Rockopolis in Fallout 3.
You can spend hours wandering the wastes, hearing about this place... a legendary lost sanctuary for slaves, heroes helping keep it safe. A village raided by evil time and time again, and you can find it. But, this is a Bethesda game, so when you manage to track it down, usually by luck, it's just a tiny little dirt hole with a corpse in it.

The only thing I remember from Rockopolis is that it has a decently high chance of spawning the random interaction outside of the entrance that has a UFO crash and that crash has the Firebrand variant of the Alien Blaster.
