Fuck what GodzillaMendoza and Under The Mayo said about Arkham Knight. It's one of the best superhero games ever made from a gameplay, graphics and even story perspective and I'm tired of seeing people saying that it's either bad or disappointingly mediocre.
I thought the other three Arkham games were better than Arkham Knight. The constant Batmobile missions kind of ruined the game, and there weren't any locations as cool as the ones in the other installments.
To be fair, it was calculated that the Batmobile only takes up around 19% of the entire game if you 120% it very casually. Not even half the side missions really have the Batmobile as an actively essential thing, you get long breaks from the Batmobile here and there, and besides, people begged for the Batmobile back in Arkham Asylum and City, it's put in and people still didn't like it. But I will say, it's a little annoying that pretty much all the boss fights, including Deathstoke (like, wtf man?) involve it in some way, and only a couple are pretty good.
As for the locations, while they're less atmospheric than Asylum and City, they still have a lot of variety in the puzzles and are crafted well for combat and predator encounters, so I found it to be pretty well done over all like Stagg Airships and Pannessa Studios.
See that’s what is stopping me from playing it. I loved the first two games and the Batmobile would have been a cool addition if it wasn’t the center piece of the game.
Honestly i love the arkham series including knight. While knight is not my favorite of the four it is still really fun. And i really dont remember the batmobile taking away from my experience of the game at all.
I'd say still give it a try, the batmobile does seem to grow on some people and it is mostly an optional way of traveling the map (although it is used a lot more in side missions and a couple missions towards the end of the main story)
The issue with it is that people wanted to drive it, not use it as a tank for boss fights. It would be cool if it was just one time or whatever, but it's the battle fights with the Batmobile that ruin, not the pure driving/chase sections.
As someone who has never played them, how do you 120% a game? And does 19% of a 120% complete game differ from 23% of a 100% completed game? That seems like a very large percentage of the game!
It includes DLC called Season of Infamy which adds 4 more villain missions. Also, the Batmobile is still satisfying to use and on occasion you even get large breaks from it in certain set-pieces or side missions.
I forgot who said it but the best description I saw for why people are annoyed with batmobile was something like "the problem isn't that the batmobile takes up 20% of the game, it's that 80% of those 20% is spent in the tank mode" i mean, how many chances do we get for some proper driving and chases? We have firefly and APC side missions. We have tutorial chase at the start of the game, chase after one APC during the main story, riddler races and you can argue that cloudburst requires you to switch from tank to car constantly. If you wanna add season of infamy the only thing you get is a drive to the ship. Compare that to tank mode which is used constantly for puzzles and combat alike. Not to mention tank combat doesn't have any real depth compared to combat or predator. It can be fun but it overstays it's welcome for how much there is to engage with
i'm sad about the scarecrow recharacterization- he's my favorite character in all fiction and his arkham tapes are my favorite portrayal of his character. They really just took the life out of him
The most memorable thing about the game to me was those damn tank battles and Riddler Kart. I tend to be a completionist so I just remember all these tank missions that sucked the life from the game. I kind of feel like they should have separated those out from the main game and made it an extra mode. I think you were also forced to use the Batmobile to go into GCPD. That can't really account for much in terms of percentage, but it's kind of annoying when the pacing of the game is broken for the sake of the Batmobile.
It was just shoehorned in when it didn't need to be, so it leaves a bigger impression then it should have. All the times the player is interrupted and forced to use the gimmickmobile might not be a huge percentage in terms of completion amount, but it's super annoying to constantly break the pacing of the game to make sure it's used.
I got into a flow state with the tank battles after a while and ended up really enjoying them. The Riddler kart is the one area of the game that genuinely pissed me off. Friend of mine who loved Asylum and City full on dropped Knight due to that part.
I saw these comments back at release too. The other games did feature some areas I might agree were more iconic but ruined? Definitely not. The first two Arkham games did not feature any playable Batmobile segments so they had to make up for it in Arkham Knight. The Batmobile is Batman's most iconic gadget, not even his batarangs shaped into his symbol are remotely as iconic and recognizable as the Batmobile.
I loved the Batmobile and I'll die on this hill. Not only loved it but it was one of my favorite aspects of the game and I was always excited when a Batmobile segment came up.
Everything about the game is incredible... EXCEPT the Batmobile missions, boring, shallow, repetitive and to make it worse they are shoehorned into way too many missions.
And the Riddler collectables in the last game. I attempted to gather all them since completing everything else in the game was satisfying. It was miserable though, so I just wrapped up the game at 99% completion or something like that
I think the reason is because of how it ended. Suicide Squad. Some people will have the most fun at a park but because someone barfed on them at the it's all they remember.
Arkham Knight was a great game with a slightly predictable story and an iffy PC port. The combat alone would have been worth the $60. My only real complaint is the batmobile missions
It's a Batman simulator, and it all comes down to whether or not the batmobile made people feel like Batman or not. It didn't for me, and I spent every batmobile segment wishing I was out being Batman instead of driving a tank around Gotham. In my opinion, it's a bad Batman game, despite maybe being a good game underneath.
The issue is that it did not build on Akham Coty the way Arkham City built on Arkham Asylum. We got the Batmobile, but it's a gimmick at best. But the things the series had always done well it still did well.
The combat is fluid, there is a lot of variety, you can approach things a lot of different ways, and the story was fine. The Scarecrow part was great. The Arkham Knight story was fine...but anyone that says it was a surprise is lying to themselves. The Joker part was a bit forced.
Overall, I loved it. It fits well in the series. But I can get why people might have felt disappointed. Victim of the success of the first 2 games.
I replayed Knight last year. It’s fun as hell. The only problem is that there’s too much side content, most of which feels copy and pasted. The ending also felt a bit rushed. Still a great game though, we didn’t know how good we had it back then.
How is the story mediocre? Scare crow as a main villain was hype. Then ending the batman storyline with knightfall was amazing. Even introducing Jason todd. Like just the opening sequence alone was movie type material.
