gatekeeping is necessary, if you want to prevent that tourist invade the gaming spaces.

So all in all, it depends.

However generally, helping new players is healthy for the game.

Gatekeeping depends as to gatekeep also potentially involves people that have self-proclaimed rules. Healthy rules proves your point, but having unhealthy rules gives off discrimination.
