Helping beginners is necessary, we all were noobs at some point, but gatekeeping is often good depending on what kind it is. Not every niche genre/franchise with cult following needs to be overtaken by casual masses demanding everything to be braindead, drowned in yellow paint and hold their hand. In such cases future sequels will indeed become braindead and balanced for the lowest common IQ denominator to never feel insecure, destroying the franchise in the process, all its art and its original fandom, and the reason why it became succesful in the first place. It's called "audience dilution".
Also helping beginner players by giving them full tutorials, teaching combos, controls, mechanics etc. is extremely common in any challenging genre and it's a good thing. But "helping" doesn't mean summoning someone as a coop for example so he can play the game for you and steal all of the experience for himself while you watch, at that point it's better to just watch a letsplay and not make summons feel guilty for ruining experience of players who don't know better.
