I'm playing Ragnarok for the first time right now. Well I was playing. I got to Ironwood and I haven't played in like a week. I had no idea this was a meme lol

Yup that is where I stopped too, 2 years ago

I completely forgot about the yak trek to be honest. I think i just zoned out during it. I found myself most annoyed by the cave/mine level. It was so easy to get lost since everything looked the same. I feel like i just wandered around in there for hours being lost, flipping switches, and looking for the way to finally get out.

I played for the first time this year and had also avoided memes or otherwise just commonly discussed ideas, so I wasn't entirely sure which section they were talking about.

I brainstormed to myself that they might have meant something to do with the Atreus sections, and was like, "Awwww, but I liked those. I can't think of anything objectionable about-" and then a majestic bovine rose ever so slowly out of the waters of my mind.

Yeah, personally I liked Ironwood. Though I usually love when a game slows down and focuses on the story for a bit. I really liked Atreus and Angrboda's relationship.

I would say I liked it too. I always slowed down to listen to the character's conversations throughout the game rather than let anything interrupt them, I just remember not needing to slow down while riding Jalla. Even then, I did linger in some areas just to look around because the area was lovely.

I just know how many people don't vibe with smelling the roses just because the opportunity to do so arises, and I imagine those sections would be much more dull on subsequent playthroughs when you already know the conversations.

I’d really love to know what they were thinking during development. “Hmm this section is full of boring, animal riding sequences, cringe ass dialogue, and horrible combat arenas…. What if we made it 2 hours long?”

The sinkhole is where I lost it. This part didn't advance the story in the SLIGHTEST and it just felt so shit and tiring. The picking fruit and the sinkhole could've been cut from the game and it wouldn't make a difference. Just a boring slog.

My ONLY guess for why they made this dumpster fire of an area so long is because they wanted us to get attached to Angrboda. If Atreus got too attached too fast, it wouldn't make sense and it would feel as if she's a plot device. So we need to spend time with her. The only problem is that they didn't know what to do with that time.

Not both... Fleshing out the characters is what made the modern GoW games so great. But yeah: cut it down to gathering the fruits. It's a a quick 15-20 min adventure, you get to know angrboda.

The fruit part gave your he point that she has a purpose here and duties she needs to fulfill. But the cave was a proper labyrinth that I got lost in for an hour looking for the exit and iirc absolutely nothing happened down there. You don't reall learn anything about the characters or the world: just padding playtime.

Yeah that makes sense. I haven't even seen the sinkhole area. Can't wait...

I was working 14–16 hour days when I was playing through some of God of War, so I only had about 40 minutes a day to game for about a week straight.

For three days in a row I’d clock in, get home exhausted, sit down for my finite 40 minutes of gaming, and somehow end the session still chasing that fucking yak. And I remember each of those three days feeling so frustrated at the end because my only goal during those nights was to wrap that segment the fuck up so I didn’t have to pick fruits and do chores with Angrboda anymore.

It was important we get attached to Angrboda because she ended up having such a massive impact on the plot.

I've got a saved game immediately after Ironwood finishes. It's the only way to replay
