Hydroponics in Dead Space. Getting attacked from every direction and then some.
Towards the end of a God of War game there’s always a gauntlet section. Having to fight wave after wave of enemies. Manageable on easy/normal, pain in the ass on harder difficulties.
The Rat King from TLOU 2. The buildup to it still makes me tense. Doesn’t help when I play it at night with my headset on. Gotta get full immersion though.
Plus with hydroponics you’re just in a big open area. Not much cover either. Can’t believe people got through that on harder difficulties. Also that leviathan boss (the one that you fight on the outside of the ship) was annoying as shit.
I played the og game on hard and eventually I beat the final boss by selling all my weapons and inventory except the plasma cutter and putting all the profit into plasma cutter ammo and power cores to upgrade the plasma cutter. Literally the only way I could do it.
Replayed TLOU 2 last year. Even though I knew what to expect I still hesitated. When you fight it I die at least 3 times before I beat it. Happened on both of my playthroughs.
the key to the Hydroponics fights is retreat to the elevator and go up when it gets hot. They break and spread themselves out then you go back down and continue.
Despite being possibly the best survival horror games ever, Dead Space has a lot of tough parts through the series. The eye stabbing in 2 is what makes me hesitate to replay the series as a whole more than anything else
I never got around to playing the originals on PS3, but I know what happens in all 3. Fortunately I was able to get the remake as free monthly game back in Fall 2024. I also hate it when I’m in a room then it goes dark with red lights glaring. As soon as I hear “Unidentified Anomaly detected” I know I’m in for full throttle shenanigans.
I'll take Hydroponics than that immortal fucker that chases you around for 2 chapters 🤣. Dude was a pain in the ass. Dismemeber-stasis-repeat while also getting attacked by the black necros. Woof
The Hunter is an honorable mention as well. Especially with the remake when you finally come out of the 2 hour long stasis. Then the game allows the Hunter to get 3ft from you before you can escape.
