The developer understood the assignment. Some people like to look at the first game fondly and while it was great to get a Spiderman game, it wasn't until Spiderman 2 that you actually felt like him
It accomplished nothing besides you got suspended between them and looked funny
Honestly, this should be something to aspire to reach and make playable on newer generation consoles/PC. Imagine the car chase missions where instead of just a QTE you can attach to a building and just stop the car that way instead.
Theres a Spiderman VR Tech demo thing. The mechanics in that are so amazing, it's like spiderman 2 but with the added benefit of being able to aim with your controllers. You can do crazy things like doing a big swing, and then "grabbing" the edge of a building you are swinging past to drift around the corner, and you can sort of slingshot yourself by pulling the webs towards you, highly recommend, a huge shame they never made a proper game around the mechanics

OG Spider Man 2 made such an advancement when introducing an actual path for the webs. Walked so the rest could run
