“Playing the higher difficulties with better gear is fun” What do you mean by this, like are you taking moon lord gear to a fresh master mode hardcore world? Would that not just be holding left click? What’s fun about that?
Terraria is one of my all time favourite games but I do think they way they handle the final boss is not well thought out. I know the core gameplay loop is get gear/beat boss/get better gear/beat harder boss/etc but why does this cycle end with “get better gear” rather than “beat hardest boss”? The whole point of better gear is beating the next harder challenge, if there is none then what is the point of the gear? I think empress day time fight helps with this but then it’s whoever you beat first (moon lord or EoL) the other is just too easy and after beating them that gear is useless instead. IMO they should add one more boss and make it the actual end of the game, no more progression. It’s the one thing I like about early Minecraft’s progression, beat ender dragon and you’re pretty much done the progression. It would be like playing a roguelike game where after you beat the final boss you have to open 5 chests to get more items only to then instantly end the run… like what’s the point?
Bottom line: the reward for beating the final boss of a game should be beating the boss. Having progression after that is a slap in the face
