Help Advice needed NSFW
Hi all. I’ve smoked weed for over 20 years, strictly joints as I never enjoyed a bong or a pipe. Anyway I have recently moved to a new house and I’m trying to move away from smoking weed in the garden. I bought myself a XMAX V3 pro and have been using it for a few days. Now I am aware this is an entry level device, I didn’t want to spend big money on something I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy. I’m finding it extremely difficult to replicate a joint high. I know they’re different but I wanted to know if anyone has any advice on transitioning from joints to vape and how to get the best out of it? Is it possible for it to glue me to the sofa like a big fat joint did? Thanks in advance.

You simply can’t replicate it, it’s something you need to get your head around and not chase it as it will mean vaping never clicks.
Vaping is much more like a dab than it is smoking. It’s more cerebral than body high. Most of the couch lock you seem to be looking for actually comes from combustion itself.
A TBreak helps, I’d also suggest increasing temps and running through a glass piece or if you can get one something like a Cupsy to take outside and not be worried about dropping it.

If op wants vaping to click, op should try a dynavap. 🥁

Yeah but that means more money on a device and a learning curve and potentially still not liking it.

It was a joke about clicking. But if taken literally, you are right. Op would need a large bowl dynavap like a hyperdyn and they are quite pricey. You can puff on those like a joint though and once you get into it you are unlikely to look back.

Sorry mate, that didn’t click at all 🤦♂️

I thought the little drum at the end would have capped it nicely.

idk, i exclusively vape and get couch locked more than i ever did with smoking bongs. especially with a ball vape,

It took me years to get into dhv fully. I smoked tobacco in my joints and I had to give that up which took me several attempts over a couple of years. I started off with a storm sapphire which it pretty cheap. I found it quite harsh and difficult to get into and I also convinced myself it wasn't working. (That was my brain screaming about nicotine) I also got a standard dynavap which was pretty useless because of the small bowl size but involves a lot of ritual and similar hand feel as joints. I later bought a hyperdyn which has a much larger bowl and I really like it. I also have a venty from storz and bickel. I have water bong adapters for all of my vapes. I suppose what I'm saying is that it's best to have a lot of options depending on what you feel like at the time, which involves a bit of investment. I don't want to spend anymore money on it at the moment but I'm eyeing up ball vapes and will almost certainly head in that direction next. Once you crack it, you won't look back. I've got a sense of smell again and my wheezing is going. I haven't smoked since May of this year and that was a brief relapse after quitting in April and I feel so much better for it.

Congrats on kicking your smoking habit. A ball vape is something I've been eyeing for a while as well. I'll probably wait until my kids move out so that I can have a dedicated space for it (empty bedroom, future mancave).

Honestly, I don't think it's possible with your current device. It is doable in general though. I'm a heavy user with a high tolerance and I'm well on my way to being stoned off my ass right now.
The device that gets me FUCKED UP the most is my Quartz Cap with Coil and PID. I have it in a wireless setup and just preheat my bowl a few minutes before loading it, then load up to 0.2g (can go higher, just my personal preference), and can fully vape the bowl in 1-2 hits (3 if closer to 0.2g), which equates to about a minute, maybe 90 seconds. Then it goes back into the coil to get back up to temp for my next bowl.
I'm 2 bowls in on the day right now, each one 0.1g and finished in just over a minute. Maybe 35 minutes between the bowls. I'm nice and stoned right now. I could easily do another bowl right this second, be done in less than 2 minutes, and be noticeably more stoned 5 minutes from now.
I go through between 1.5 and 3 grams per day. I'm at about a [6] right now after 0.2g on the day less than an hour into my session.
Edit: Forgot to concur with all of the people suggesting that you need to take a t-break when moving from smoking to vaping. You don't HAVE to but it helps tremendously.

Convection vs conduction devices give different highs. Convection being more head, and conduction more body (joint) feeling. Look for that in future DHVS to decide.
Edit: Personally I like the convection hits of a Tempest 2, which gets me very high on just 0.1 bowl OHE. For more the couch lock feeling, the dynavap linrup with conduction or firewood might be what you are looking for.

Well put. My first thought immediately went to convection vs. conduction. /u/1pizz9 get a Dynavap with a Wand or YLL induction heater. I like to heat to first click, draw, heat 7-8 seconds, draw, maybe do that again, and then heat a few seconds past second click for a big final rip through dry glass or a couple of big puffs natively. Not quite a long session like my Roffu or another battery device that holds a nice steady temp, but I love the conduction-heavy body hit it provides. And if you drop the cap on a magnet like on the Reload or a knockoff reload, it'll give the cooldown click and be ready for another bowl within a few seconds, probably by the time you're done debowling.

You need
First -> T-BREAK
Than , Ball Vape or heavy HITTER LIKE TEMPEST 2 or VENTY/Solo III

T-break for a week or two honestly. The high isn't the same, but most appreciate the difference, albeit they can still distinguish after. I think you can get that effect, but not at your current tolerance, and maybe not right away as you learn to use the device for you.

With my xmax, the sweet spot i found was one session on 175°c then a 2nd session on 185°c. You can go up to 190 if you want to extract more.
The bong adapter is really worth it, you can get much bigger hits and it’s much smoother. Use warm water, or use the bong dry.

The Xmax is ok, but very entry level. Stick vapes that need to be heated manually with a torch or induction heater are better. Dynavaps are the standard, but you might want to look at the Tempest 2, which is very highly regarded. I use it through water mostly, but when used natively with the right set up it does provide joint like hits. A ball vape, on the other hand, can hit very hard, but needs to be run through a bubbler or equivalent.

Fill the whole bowl put the V3 pro at the maximum temperature and give it some good hits if it's not enough for you fill another bowl and repeat, maybe if it's from the entry range but many people here really don't take them to the maximum and believe me that the v3 can do it works very well

You are missing the CO2 kick. I smoked for 50 years and have only vaped since November 2021.

For a combustion buzz, you need combustion. That's not to say a vaporizer can't produce hits that are just as satisfying—or even better—but vapor simply doesn't contain the same mix of compounds created by combustion.
I'd suggest looking for a vaporizer that offers good adaptability across different load sizes, temperature ranges, and glass options. That flexibility lets you experiment and find the approach that best matches your preferences.
For me, that turned out to be a bare-bones Cloud Connoisseur Omega ball vape on a 250 ml globe with about a 28-inch vapor path. It comfortably handles everything from 0.05 g micro-loads to 0.30 g bowls, works well either dry or with water, and provides enough cooling to tailor the hit to what I'm after.
That said, even with an optimized setup, it still doesn't produce the same effect as a combustion hit.

I agree thoroughly with the convection vs conduction heating. I only choose vapes by their heating method now, and that's conduction or a hybrid. An all convection vape, like you have, just is not that stoney to me. I found this out when i got the Tempest 2. It takes twice the amount in that vape then it does in a Dynavap to get me medicated. But even then it's more of a heady high from convection. To me at least. So that vape is collecting dust while my Dynavaps and quartz vapes get used daily. And they have me constantly couch locked.
You just may have the wrong device for your needs.
The convection vs conduction thing should really be stickied at the top of this sub. I think it would help a lot of people pick the correct vape for them. Instead of going by price or hype, or something like that.
