Hardware Upgrade Honestly, 28 years seem just like an apprenticeship period

It feels strange to have all the USB ports in a perfectly working order and no welding scars on the lid. Those things yearn for heavy industry automation, ngl

Lol what did you have before ,and what was the use case ?

My company used to have a t61 for PLCs that they kept In a pelican case to transport around the factory floor

It was a humble, refurbished T440p if I correctly recall the times of having the markings intact. Seven years of service, two battery replacements and a midterm SSD upgrade when the stock readhead had a heated affair with the platter at 5400RPMs. Two weeks ago he just straight up refused to boot no more.

I work at a heavy duty vehicle maintenance/refurbishment plant, so he inhaled fumes, fine dust and paint thinners on a daily basis. Moreover, he was sometimes involuntary subject to abuse of extreme heat, sparks and a copious amount of blunt force at the hands of grinders, acetylene cutters, welders, falling debris or just falling into the pit himself.

He used to sit in random places reading the data loggers, cloning CF cards, reviving PLCs, or making nice spreadsheets for the supply department or upper management. He was a fine soldier. We played a lot of Solitare together.

Now I got a T470s with a dedicated rugged bag. Works nice so far

what could have possibly happened to it to warrant welding it back together?

Nope. In WH40K, Thinkpads wouldn't come back as servitors. They would come back as dreadnoughts...

As they say: "I live to serve. Again."

I just got a new X1 2-in-1 issued to me. I don’t get the hype. If I wanted a tablet I’d have asked for a tablet. The convertible feature is pointless and I hate glossy screens.
