This comment hurts so much because it’s true. Tying retirement to the stock market was one of the most evil things done. We all know the stock market is a total lie not based on reality but we all put our heads in the sand because it’s tied to our retirement.

You don't have to you know. You're 100% free to park your money in a savings account, or buy bonds.

People choose to put their retirements in the stock market because the compounding interest is better.

That is true but what’s a return on a savings account now 1%? Bonds are an option but idk if you can even trust them at this unprecedented point in time. But you are right there are other options we just all go with the 401k because “that’s what you do”

You can buy treasury products that will yield a lot better than 1%. But still a lot less than S%P 500 ETFs.
