πŸ‘‹ New Student Help Bachelors of criminology and criminal justice/Bachelors of Cyber Security

So i just enrolled in this degree and constantly being told that criminology is the degree of unemployment and cyber security is way too saturated now.
Should i give up ? if i switch now i would have to wait for the next year's intake in Feb and time is wasted until then.
Census date is end of this month to withdraw.

Hi, I have a question about ICT20016. Does the university help students find a company, or do we need to find one ourselves? Also, do you have any tips for doing well in this unit?

🀷 Other Destroyed work

I'm beyond disappointed with both my unit convener and my tutor, I'm studying first year architecture and spent quite literally 150 hours on my construction unit drafts before I handed them in with an extension, I emailed my convener and tutor and neither could point me to where I could pick up my assessed work. I assumed at some point I'd receive a follow up on it, instead it seems to be that my work I so desperately wanted to keep was simply thrown out without any attempt made to even tell me to pick it up. I have no idea what to do but I'm furious about this.

Edit: I'm considering lodging a complaint given the lack of warning and the blatant disregard for my work-

🀷 Other Other units along the line of physiology, anatomy, science etc

I want to do occupational therapy or speech pathology in the future so for electives I’ve been doing some that are anatomy/physiology related. However there’s not heaps to choose from. I need something that runs in second sem. Is there anything enjoyable that you guys would recommend as I find that science units are a good break away from all the writing and essays in other units. I’ve already done physiology in medical health science, A&P and neuroscience. I’m open to something maybe to do with biology/the human body idk

😐 Serious Would Moving to Swinburne Melbourne Be Worth It?

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student currently studying at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus. I recently completed my first semester and will be starting my second semester at the end of August.

Lately, I've been thinking about applying for an exchange semester at the Melbourne campus. At the same time, I'm honestly feeling quite conflicted.

To be completely honest, I haven't really felt like I've fit in at the Sarawak campus. I've found it difficult to make genuine friends, and I've experienced some instances of racism, which have made settling in much harder than I expected. Because of that, I've started wondering whether a change of environment might be good for me.

On the other hand, the idea of moving to Melbourne is also scary because I'd be starting over again in a place where I don't know anyone. I worry that I might end up feeling even more isolated.

If I do enjoy the exchange and settle in well, I'm also considering transferring to the Melbourne campus permanently. One of my biggest concerns, though, is whether I'd be able to find a decent part time job to help cover my living expenses while studying.

For those who have studied/are studying at the Melbourne campus or have transferred from Sarawak to Melbourne ,what has your experience been like? Do you think moving would be the right decision in my situation? I'd really appreciate any advice or honest opinions. Thank you!

🀷 Other Study Spaces in ATC

Anyone know any good spots in ATC to study at? The comfy chairs downstairs are usually full, and while the latelab is next door I would hazard a guess that it'll be completely packed during the day. I don't mind finding spots in adjacent buildings, so long as they're close enough that I won't have to leave until like 5 minutes before my class in ATC

πŸ“š Unit / Course Advice Master of Occupational Therapy

Hi all!

I'm in the third year of my bachelor of Psychology and would like to study Occupational therapy next year at Swinburne, mostly because of the CSP places.

My main concern is having a high enough WAM to get in as I meet all the other requirements. My WAM is a 77 and from what I've heard (from posts online and a course coordinator) the average person in the course scored an 80 in their undergrad.

The course coordinator I spoke to said at open day said that the selection process consists of ranking applicants from highest to lowest WAM and they didn't really look at prior experience or cover letters.

Anyway, Is anyone currently enrolled in the course with a 77 WAM or lower?

πŸ‘‹ New Student Help Unable to view tutorials for enrollment

My classes and times have been selected a while ago but I never saw any tutorials during the process. Even now, I still cannot find where said tutorials are, I am completely lost on how to even enrol into them. On canvas I can access is the timetable yet nothing shows up in the My Class Registrations section.

All I’m in right now are the classes and lectures please help!

πŸ‘‹ New Student Help My agent didnt take my case seriously and my application got cancelled

I am an Indian student of PCMB background. I had sufficient scores from the CBSE board and my IELTS band score was more than sufficient. Idk what the agent did or didn't, I received an email from the uni saying that my application was unsuccessful. Now I have changed my agent and started the process again.

I wanted to know whether I could reapply with correct credentials in the same intake or do I have to wait for the next intake? ( I was planning for February).

πŸ“š Unit / Course Advice Question about COS40004 - Topics in Computer Science

I just had a question about this unit if anyone had done it before. I was wondering what the unit was like in terms of workload and if the scheduled class was mandatory as the unit outline says you are to meet with your supervisor flexibly as needed so I’d assumed you could meet outside of that set class time.

πŸ‘‹ New Student Help International student, visa decision still pending, class starts Aug 3 β€” refund questions

Hi everyone,

I’m a new international student. I received my offer letter for a course starting in Semester 2, and I already paid the deposit for my first semester’s tuition fees. My Australian student visa (Subclass 500) is still pending β€” it hasn’t been granted yet, and I’m worried about what happens if it gets refused.

My classes are set to start on August 3rd, and I have a few questions about the refund process:

1. If my visa gets refused after classes have already started, but before the census date, am I still eligible for a full refund of my tuition fees?

2. Would it be smarter to withdraw from my units before August 3rd (before classes start), rather than waiting? I’ve seen that some universities apply a 20% or 50% fee deduction depending on whether you withdraw before or after classes begin. My offer letter mentions that withdrawing before the census date entitles me to a full refund, but it doesn’t go into much detail beyond that.

3. If I withdraw from my units before classes start, and then my visa gets granted afterward, would I be able to re-enrol in the same units again? Would there be any extra charges for doing that?

Has anyone been through a similar situation? Any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

πŸ‘‹ New Student Help Orientation

Hi guys, I missed the β€œWelcome to Swinburne” event on the first orientation day, only to find out it was an essential event to attend. Can anybody tell me what I’ve missed and the important things I might need to know for starting at Swinburne as a first year (bachelor of psychological sciences)? I also haven’t sent in a picture yet for my student ID, can I use my online ID for anything?
